Bodine Aluminum, Inc., owned and operated by Toyota Motors with plants in St. Loius and Troy, MO.
TMMI - Princeton, Indiana.
TMMWV - Buffalo, WV.
TMMAL - Huntsville, Alabama.
TMMTX - New plant being built in San Antonio, TX.

Additional plants in British Columbia, Ontario, and one in Baja California, Mexico.

These plants either assemble cars or produce parts that are used in domestic plants or exported back to Japan for manufacture. The Corolla, Tacoma, Avalon, Camry, Sienna, Tundra, Sequoia, and Solara are all manufactured in the US with primarily domestic-made components. The Matrix is manufactured in Canada.

Moral of the story: in the age of globalization, there is no such thing as a domestic product. Toyota has as many plants in the U.S. as GM has outside the U.S. And beside the plant employees, Toyota also employs thousands of people in Toyota Motor Sales USA, Toyota Motor Credit USA, and about five other domestic Toyota corporations.

"Car" is a loose description of that... object, methinks. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

NO!!! NOT THE DEATH OF TOYOTA (scion series)!!!

/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

actually I am definitely not a fan of the new scion series; I might be more interested in the one that looks like the matrix, but they sure as heck it wont have the power of the matrix (wasn't the scion like 115HP?)...

I want, and hopefully will buy a Toyota Matrix XRS with sunroof in Lunar Metallic one day... I've checked out the whole arsenal of the Toyotas, and that one is my fave... when you drive it, it makes you feel you ARE the Toyota...

plus, toyota is one of the best (if not, the best) brand of motor cars when it comes to affordability, and reliability.

Anyways, Dodge's I think win the looks for me... chevy, is a reliable, but dull looking cars. GM is pretty much junk. Try that 4-wheel steering bull**** in the snow... also, before you do, do not eat beforehand.

Fords... eh... they're a cross between GM and Dodge... pretty good looking cars (only the mustangs it seems) but they are junk like GM.

Hondas are just getting sweeter and sweeter... reliable, affordable, and some are quite appealing.

I mean look, it may sound like I'm a total moron, but look at these cars' official forums (like support / problems forums). Most of Toyota's comments are "it's ugly!" (which I think it's a bunch of junk), and some isolated incidents. There are a lot of praise posts (about half or more). But with Dodge (I know for a fact) hardly has any praise whatsoever... just rants and major complaints..

That is my personal experience with cars... it doesn't mean it's fact... just my experience with them.

Hey, I agree with the fact that GM are junk, and Dodges break down all the time, but everyone I know with Fords have had good experiences with them. Actually, even Chevy's have been really good to everyone I know with them, so I guess I'll take it back about GM. I like Fords and Chevy's. Ambassador seemed to just pick every American brand and say they suck. Well, I think every major car company is good in their own way. And none of them, except Saturn and Saab, really really suck. Basically, if they do as much as you guys claim, they would go the way of Geo and Eagle.

The best selling specialty car in America for like 12 years in a row is the Ford Mustang.

The best selling VEHICLE in America for like 24 years in a row is the Ford F series truck.

So obviously they are doing something right, haha.

Japanese cars like Toyota (kind of American now, so maybe people will start making fun of it) and Honda are good reliable cars that also get great gas mileage. But that doesn't make them "better." It depends on what you want. If that's what you want, then Honda and Toyota are the way to go. If you want big engine torque and power, then you go American, Chevy or Ford. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

It's an interesting concept car. They're coming out with so many of those cars nowadays...I got sucked into it.

I'm in my twenties and I drive a Suzuki Aerio.

For those of you who don't know what that is, it's like a Toyota Matrix. It was fun for a while but I don't like it much anymore. The only good thing about it now is lots of space.

Here's what it looks like:

I like Fords and Chevy's. Ambassador

Not really, I gave good points about them. Dodge makes excellently designed beautiful vehicles, but they break down a lot.
GM's, they're good for family (I didn't say this before, but I realize it now)... but they are still pretty much junk.
Chevy's seem pretty reliable (despite GM's contribution to them), but they have usually pretty ugly designs. Too simple for some.
Ford, the best thing they have going for them is the Mustang name (which Mustang is probably second to viper in beautiful design. But I've never had much good experience with them anyways... I think they may be getting better, but I am not sure, but would not bet on it either.

I pretty much just repeated myself about the american cars. If I had to live with only one brand of car, it would be ANY American brand over a foreign motorcar brand. Not because of being a better vehicle, but just for patriotism's sakes... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif However, my next purchase is almost 100% sure going to be Toyota. However, sometimes it seems 50/50 when I see or hear about the Dodge Neon SRT-4.

Btw, I own a dodge!

Well, I think every major car company is

I agree!

Basically, if

Well they have their problems too though (so I've heard). I've honestly never had one of their products, so I cant say by experience.

-

Well that is not very arguable, but remember... what other specialty cars are so cheap? Cant have a BMW, or Dodge Viper, or Humvee for the price of a mustang.

-

I'm not sure of that. Please give me your sources, and I might believe you. But for now, I cannot...

Not necessarily. But I personally prefer American cars anyways... Americans seem to understand the concept of "I WANT BIGGER", and "I WANT UNSURPASSED POWER"! Unfortunately, you cannot have "power" and "reliablity" in the same car too well. That is probably the majority reason why the foreign cars do better.

It
- depends on what you want. If that's what you want,

LOL Hornet, thats the funniest thing you've ever said. I mean that, I truly do. We don't even have a dealer around here. Beat anything out here! HA! Maybe for your paved city streets bozo ( and I mean that in a nice way). I will post some pictures soon of some of the road conditions here./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
The oil patch is several square million miles of land consisting of Alberta Canada and North Eastern British Columbia Canada. In the winter tempatures drop below -40 degrees Celcius. We deal with with Muskeg, frozen barren wastelands and some of the harshest conditions known in North American. We drive on dirt roads faster than some people drive on hiways. Average life span of a company truck up here is 2 years and at this point most company trucks have 160000kms or 100000miles on them. Deisel trucks are the most popular up here as gas stations are few and far between. There are a few consultants that drive fore runners, and since they don't haul anything, the trucks stand up not to bad. but these are the guys that drive onto location and sit there for a month or more.

/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
(picture doing 70mph on a dirt road (single lane) knowing that there are moose, deer, caribou, lynx and other assorted wildlife that WILL show up)

THIS is the oil patch, and I will not trade it for anything.

Hehehe. Actually, they are selling VERY well. Over 800 in the first week, I beleive (CA only). The HP is around there, but the cars aren't heavy, so the power-to-weight ratio isn't bad. And the interiors are amazing.

Average age of buyers right now is mid-20s, which is very good for Toyota, who's average buyer is 48-53. Most new Scion owners previously drove things along the line of Honda Civics, which means they are hitting the desired market dead-on.

Great interior modelling...stock stereo system is VERY good, small upgrade to an in-dash 6-CD changer which also has MP3 capabilities, lots of leg and head room.

Arg, the Focus is such junk. The interior is completely made of cheap plastic that will break within a month, the engine is weak, and there is way too much road noise for a small-engine car. The Focus was the replacement of the Escort, but was basically designed to appeal to those people who like to "race" economy cars...

"However, sometimes it seems 50/50 when I see or hear about the Dodge Neon SRT-4."

Oh no, this car was made just for impressive numbers. Look at it practically. The speeds and power it achieves is at extremely high rpms. Tell me, how much strain do you think the engine goes through to accomplish what they promise? That car will break down on you within a couple of years max, guaranteed.

"Well they have their problems too though (so I've heard). I've honestly never had one of their products, so I cant say by experience."

I hope you realize when I said "they would go the
- way of Geo and Eagle." I meant going out of business. Unless I'm mis-reading what you responded.

"I'm not sure of that. Please give me your sources, and I might believe you. But for now, I cannot..."

I don't have the sources of that, but I did research it once, and Ford isn't shy to advertise that fact. And no, they can't simply blatently lie. Anyway, it isn't really so hard to believe. Basically every construction or contractor company uses F-series trucks. DOT vehicles are F-series trucks. Many government vehicles are F-Series trucks. Then you look at the regular people who buy them. You have poser boys, you have parents, you have southern boys who want to drive in the mud, I mean, the F-series just appeals to a great deal of people and a lot of them are used in industrial or governmental uses. So it's really not such a surprise that it's done so well.

"Unfortunately, you cannot have "power" and "reliablity" in the same car too well. That is probably the majority reason why the foreign cars do better."

Actually, no, that's wrong, the two that you can't really get together is power and efficiency. Old Camaros and old Mustangs with big displacement V8's and such are powerful, and reliable, because they are fairly simple. Unlike small engines, they are so complex, so many things can go wrong. While, for example, my Mustang, it's a simple 302 cubic inch Cast Iron engine block, OHV, V8. Pure simplisity. Nothing barely goes wrong with it because there's barely anything to go wrong. The drive pully drives a belt, that spins the pulleys for the other accessories, like the water pump, radiator fan, power steering pump, ac compressor, alternator, etc. Simple simple simple. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

About power and efficiency... I suppose it can be seen as power and reliability as well, since power would be a condition, and reliability (or lack thereof) would be the outcome. Because even if an engine is powerful and efficient, it can still be less reliable with structural integrity (parts that need to last longer, and have the car be more sturdy) than a small engine that is efficient.

Um, yes.... right.... and I wonder if you'll ever figure out that the people who made that car did it only to FOOL people like you. Yes, that's right, I didn't say "target" I said FOOL because when the sales were going good, they all had a good laugh over a cup of coffee, and you will never know the better. Well, ignorance is bliss right?

And what is with the poser boys and the "hot hatch" design?? It looks like a mini station wagon for crying out loud...

Buddy of mine loves the Focus. Last summer we took a road trip from Toronto, to south Delaware. We rented a car, and got a Focus.

I will say, honestly, that the car is great for commuting, or light city driving.

We got on the highway just across the US/Canada border near Kingston, Ontario, and got into a thundershower/stormfront. That little 18lb car tried so hard to hurl us into a ditch. Several times.

It was comfortable and had good mileage, but in no way, shape, or form would I ever trust it for a trek longer than 15 miles. I may be selling the car short, but I have to go with my experience operating one.

Me whine? Nah. First of all, look at what rpm the power is rated for. 5,500rpm???? Gawd, you must wind that thing up ALL the way before you feel a thing don't you?? Geezuz that's high, well, at LEAST it isn't 6000 rpm like my friend with the VW Golf.

Also, despite all this efort by the engine, spinning so fast that the pistons are about to bust out of the engine block, my 11 year-old V8 STILL cranks out more power than that poserboy pos, at 3,500rpm!

Not to mention much better 0-60 time, and probably far better 1/4 mile time. Sorry, my 11 year-old car can still whoop that sorry pos all the while working half as much. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

*pop* goes your bubble.

(Oh, did I mention I'll whoop that thing's *** even though mine is an automatic? Yep, it just keeps getting worse huh??)

Dont get me wrong... I like mustangs (Owned two), but with that said...
I had a kid in a Saleen stop at the light next to me and aparently while trying to impress his GF in his dad's car asked me if I wanted to race. I was driving my Yukon (Not a speed demon) and looked at him and said, "Sure, but you have to give me a .5 to 1 sec head start."

He looked at me and asked, "What are you going to do in 1 sec that I cant make up for before the next light"

I told him I was going to crank the steering wheel all the way to the right and slam him in the Wheel well / Quarter panel. (I really wasnt going to do this and cant remember why that thought poped into my head). He ended up turning right at the light anyway so we never got to test that theory.

Why did I add this story? Not really sure any more. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Haha guidon, wow, that WAS a pointless story. Anyway, Saleens look really nice, and they are pretty nicely equipped. They are also pretty quick, but are not as fast as they should be for the price. Honestly, you can supe up your Mustang yourself for much cheaper and beat the Saleens you see on the road. The only Saleens worth your money are the 351 models. The 281, which uses the standard 4.6L V8 engine block by Ford, are pretty useless, might as well get a Mustang GT and supe it up yourself.
