I have a 9600XT and I was thinking of exchanging it and getting the 9600Pro, will i see that much of a differnce between the 2 cards? Also I've heard of people taking the 9600pro and flashing it to a 9600XT? Is this possible and if so where do you get the firmware update for it? This is for the computer listed in my sig.

I forgot to mention, would i be better off getting a NVDIA card or should i stick with ATI? I dont want to spend more than $200.00 which i know is not alot for graphics cards these days.

if you're in the US, I'd say go to BestBuy before Sunday and pick up a 9800 Pro (128MB) for 199.99 (249.99-50 instant rebate). If you want to look around (and drop a bit more money) you can get a 9800 Pro 256MB, and flash it to an XT. I don't remember where I found that info, but Google it and you should be fine. Best of luck!!

yeah i work at best buy thats where im at now typing this message, we get no discount on it though since its has a instant rebate. I read that you supposidly can flash the 128mb model. But would it be worth it, and again would it be much noticable differance than the 9600XT

May take is, the gain is going to be fairly minor and I cant say it's a worthy $200 investment. That of course is up to interpetation. What frames rates are you getting now with the 9600XT ?

With the 9800 Pro I have, I get an average of about 45 on the Benchemall (http://www.benchemall.com/download) that's at 1024x768 VHQ, no AA, NoAF.

The 6800 plain is going for around $280 in most on-line locations and will give you a much higher performance jump and will be a better long term investment.

I can't recommend the current X800Pro cause it's way to expensive for what you want.

Here is a benchmarking thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=452106891&m=707101243) around here somewhere, look through it to see the different numbers and scores.

I would strongly suggest not rushing into anything. $200 for a minor gain will leave you holding your head.

Also, could you moe your system specs into to columns ? Having a sig larger than the actual post is just craziness

Well i already had the 9600XT because i bought that to replace my ATI AIW 8500DV 64MB card, whith the 9600XT card with all settings at medium i got about 54-60fps. But im still within the return policy of the card and was just wondering if the difference is gonna be worth the extra 53.00 bucks i'd be paying.

after reading some of the stuff i think ill keep the same card and spend the extra 50 on modding an xbox. I know Unreals graphics arent as demanding as farcry but with the 9600 at everything set to high i was getting 142.fps and only 72fps with my 8500dv

I may be a little late posting this, but you said "9600pro or 9600XT" in your first post. I'm assuming you meant 9800PRO. Anywho, someone insinuated earlier that you would need the 256MB version to flash to XT. Personally, I don't think the 256MB card is worth the extra $100 you spend over the 128MB version, as I've heard there is no significant performance increase. And yes, the 128MB version can be OCed to an XT w/ sufficient cooling and a few other factors.

Here is a forum fabulouscoops showed me with lots of info on this: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=270479
But if you're content w/ your current card, I probably wasted my time. Regardless, it's just some info. Some day I'll get around to doing this XT flash on my specific card (see sig), which is about $235 now, I believe.

yeah i meant flashing a 9800pro into a XT, but I went to lunch already and exchanged it for a the same card cause i think my otherone was defective cause the picture kept breaking up, sometimes when i would boot into windows the winxp boot screen would be all crappy as if i were watching tv on a rabbit ear tv, but would look fine at desktop. Besides if i have to upgrade the cooling and all that stuff i dont really wanna bother cause I'd like to just play and not worry about my video card over heating.
