Because I got a new system...and...because "Path of the Shell" will be released very soon...I decided to replay URU.

However, because I am using dial-up...I really don't want to download the XP1 file (takes forever..!!).

Is there someone out there who has this download (zipped) who would be willing to e-mail it to me...?

I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanx

The file is already amazingly compressed, I don't know if zipping it would help, or even work. I would think that if they could, Cyab/Ubi would have. I got the expansion when I still had dial-up(I got cable a few days later) you just have to leave it for about a day and a half. You could just do it on your least-used computer, if you have multiples.

Hi Mysti...

Thanks for responding so quickly.

I was hoping to avoid dowloading...one computer only...and...sometimes the download gets "interrupted"...and I have to start over..!!

If you're willing...could you send it to me via e-mail>>>/ (shameless pleading)

I think it's too big to email...most people's mailboxes don't hold over 100mb.

If you use Gigex (which we all know is the spawn of evil) if you get disconnected your download will automatically pause. If you have windowsXP you can also set it to automatically reconnect when you get d/ced, and then when it reconnects your download resumes..

That's what I found was the best strategy to get it...even if anyone emailed it to you you'd still have to download the attachment. So unless you're willing to try downloading it on dial-up (which is the horror of all horrors having done it myself), the only other thing I can think of is waiting for Path of the Shell to come out...since XP1 comes on a CD with that.

I used Gigex, and even though was interrupted a dozen times, I still got it just fine.

PS: Have you downlaoded the Patch 1.2 yet?

Hey Guys...

I just reinstalled URU to my new 'puter...and...am downloading the 'patch' as we are "chatting".

My new system is XP...so...not too sure how to set it to automatically connect...but..I will certainly explore that option and try to set it.

Am I jumping the gun..? Should I wait to finish replaying URU BEFORE I download the patch...or...get it downloaded...installed...and then start playing. Will it make a difference to the "play of the game"..?

Believe it or not...because it has been a while since I hvae play URU and the XP...I'm all atwitter about doing it again..!! And...I resolve to do it from memory and not to use any "Walkthrough" assistance. *hoping the resolve sticks*

Dawnadunn, the XP will be easiest if you install it BEFORE you start playing.

You've played Uru before, the way you say it makes me think you already played To D'ni once, too. Is that right???

Hey Mysti...

Thanks for the tip to download XP1 first. I'll make sure I do that.

Yes...I have played URU...and...XP1 before. But...because I have dial-up (no broadband)...I wasn't allowed to be part of "URU Live". A big disappointment for me...and...probably why "Live" didn't survive. "Live" was too limited.

To D'ni is XP1, and, like you, I never got to Live either.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

PS: You should first install the patch, and then the Xpack. It works best that way for me.

Mysti...

Thanks for all your help and advice.

I'm not sure if my friends will appreciate me tying up my telephone line...but...if I want the XP1...I'm gonna have to do that.

(P.S. While I'm excited about playing URU again...because of my physical disability I am certainly not looking forward to some of the physcial feats I'm going to have to accomplish again (jumps, kicking around things, etc.). Oh well...I've "dunn" it before...I can do it again..!!!

Physical disability? Do you mean that you aren't great at the controls, or that you're handicapped? Don't want to be snooping, I'm just curious.

And you're welcome.

Hi Mysti...

I have news...and...I have GREAT news..!!

First...the news. To answer your question...Yes..I am physically disabled (my hands just ain't what they used to be. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

But...the GREAT news is...

Before I shut down my old 'puter...I copied many of my files onto CD's..AND...I thought I'd check there BEFORE downloading the XP1 file...AND..I FOUND IT..!!!! It looks like I won't have to download it again..!!!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

My understanding is...that I have to play through the "Cleft" BEFORE I install the XP1 or there could be problems.

I'm off and "running"...!!!

Good luck, and good for you! I wonder if you start with an overweight avatar, that by the end he'll be thinner? You must burn a ton of carbs with all that running, you know!
