my pc runs a 2800xp+ amd chip, 1024mb dual channel ddr ram, 2x160GB hard discs, an msi fx5600 td256 graphics card, yet in order for me to get the game game to play (in more than about 5 frames a second anyway) i have to have the video settings in the game to 'low', do u think this is due to the graphics card, or something else? is that card any good(the shop chose it for me) thanks for your help

Your system specs seem good enough, with the slightly weak point being your video card. I've seen plenty of lower spec cards (ie; fx5200 etc) doing much better than 5 fps, so I'd suggest you try a little tweaking instead of setting everything universally "low".
Try setting everything high, except lighting and perhaps shadows (leave these "low"). Then you can experiment with medium settings one by one and determine your best performance/visual compromise. There are also custom, per-feature settings available for change through the Far Cry configuration tool, or through alteration of the 'system.cfg" file, but don't attempt these if you don't know what you're doing http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Also make sure that any anti-virus programs, messaging, or other background processes are turned off.
My $.02: Your system should be capable of decent play in the ~25-60fps region with fair visuals.
Good Luck!

How much of a memory performance hit will I take
adding 256MB ram to a 512MB dual channel ram setup?
I take it the dual channel will run in asyncrynous
mode by introducing that extra stick of 256MB.
It's for my bro's system I made for him and 512MB
is causing stutter. I don't want to fork out the money for another pair of twin ram.
I guess I'll take a benchmark loss...but FarCry
won't stutter?
