When you hunt using EOS only and lock onto a bandit, press C for cannon. Watch the indicator on the left lower part of your HUD range ladder. If it says C (in cyrillic) DO NOT fire - it is friendly !

Everything will be much better http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Let's just say I'm repeating it partly because I'm a little frustrated. Guess why http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

FIO is a missile IR lock system available on Mig & SU.

That means you're not locking the enemy a/c using the radar or eos from your plane at all, but only with the IR head of your missile.

advantage: no signal given to enemy on lock nor on missile fired on him, possibility to fire IR missiles even after being hit, if the target was locked before getting hit.

disadvantage: short lock range, no info on enemy speed and altitude on ur hud, if you engaged a target in a middle of a furbal it is strongly recomended that you double check IFF via the system that Hristo explained here above.

Technically speaking said system should not work with EOS, but since it's there, use it. Sometimes of course, you're in a furball and feeling stressed and you just forget to check ...

but we all know that friendly fire isn't. This stuff just happens. There's also people who just fail to check which aircraft are on their side and they'll shoot at anything that doesn't look like their own plane http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

When I bought my first PC I also received a program bundle that contained 4 or 5 game programs. One was the unpatched version of Flanker 1.5. I was thrilled --I had never heard of a flightsim before. I rushed to the store and bought a joystick.

I started doing loops and rolls and was having a great time. I was as excited as a kid at xmas. I flew sightseeing flights for days on end and more loops and rolls. I was having a ball.

I have no idea what mission or what it was I was flying in but one day a couple of jets flew by me. Good grief ---look at that ! ! !

I quickly decided to shoot them down --that would be cool. I had no idea how to shoot a missile but had learned how to call up my cannon. I caught up with them and started spraying the sky with tracers.

I don't recall if I got a "hey what the hell are you doing" but I think I did. Somehow I remember being suddenly aware that I was shooting at friendlys. What the hell --the situation was to good to pass up --after all it was just a game. My first air to air kill --I was drooling.

I shot down the wingie and then went after the leader. I was nervous as hell--I remember actually shaking and had a hard time maintaining my aim. I was afraid I would screw this up and somehow they would get away ---who knew when a situation like this would pop up again.

But I pulled it off. Both planes flamed.

I had several minutes to fly back to the base and then I started reflecting on what I had done. It bothered me a little --but --it is just a game. But --it still bothered me some.

Anyway my conscience spoiled my victory.

I have killed an occasional friendly since then --one or two maybe --but they were accidents and I dismissed it as bad luck. It really didn't bother me --it is just a game.

In the Falcon4 campaign you get a courts martial and lose about 100 hard earned points for it so there is a penalty to pay. So it all equals out.

But I still feel some pain for my stupid and selfish act that day in Flanker 1.5. I laugh about it though --why does it still bother me --it is just a game. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Wow, you and that lady pilot that blew up the LO-MAC schoolbus (I wish I could remember her name) ought to start some kind of support group. Never before have so many felt so guilty for the destruction of so friendly a pixel.
