Hey, I'm thinking about starting a mod for Far Cry. What all can we do with the game? Add new lines of code? Add animations? Things like that. Thanks for your help.

I don't have much experience with modding, but as far as limitations go, I don't really think there are any. I think it will be like Half-life, and look what they are able to do with that engine now that people REALLY know how to use it. There is everything from soccer mods to racing mods to RPG mods for half-life out or being made. Just know what you are doing and I'd bet you can make whatever you want using far cry.

Currently tools are avaliable for making maps(incl AI for single player), editing the scripting, and editing graphics.
For a free image editor try "the gimp". It can handle .dds files.

We are promised tools for importing new models and animations soon.
I would recomend maping and scripting for now as these skills are in demand or usefull for practice. If you're planing to run a mod team I recomend learning to script AND make your own art assets. That way if some of your team leave you can keep the mod going by yourself if needbe. It also makes it easier to help the rest of the team and with understanding just how hard their job is.

If your planning a WH40'000 mod get in touch. I've got one underway.
