________________________

Common advice to use Splinter Cell Demo

1 - Read the ReadMe included into the demo to verify the system requirement to play this demo : Start (Windows): Programs : Ubi Soft Entertainment : Splinter Cell demo : View Readme.

2 - Update your system drivers : 3D card, sound card & monitor - Beware, latest drivers are not always the better. Note : this demo hasn't been tested with directX 9.0

Our recommandations :

- Nvidia GeForce 2-3-4 : 30.82 (default) ou 41.09(performance = application)
- ATI Radeon : Catalyst 2.5 (6218 pour Win2000/XP) or more
- Matrox Parhelia : 1.02.00.042
- Or check : http://www.nvchips-fr.com for latest drivers

3 - Make sure your desktop setting is set to True Color 32 bit (control panel/display/settings)

actually, none of these worked for me but i did find a solution that DID in fact work. [for me]

heres what you do

open up SplinterCellUser.ini in the /SYSTEM folder, find the line:

Resolution=640x480
[its all the way at the bottom, and a few lines up from that.]

change it to

Resolution=800x600

and try to run the game, worked for me. also, if the game crashes you may need to change the file back to what it was in the first place. [Resolution=640x480] i also have to do this.

i have got the demo working, but when i try to run it with 4x anti-aliasing, white haze surrounds lights. you can also see this haze through walls.

i'm not sure whether this is to do with splinter cell or my computer, because i have selected antialiasing from my graphics card menu in my desktop properties to always be used.

if anyone has a solution or anything for this then i would be very grateful

All I have to say is the demo runs fine more me but Ubi-Soft better fix all these problems other people are having before they release the game on January 21.Editing ini. files parameters is asking just a little to much of the average person to get the demo to work with their system.

Doesn't anyone know this.... urg....

ANNT EVERYONE: nVidia GeForce2 MX cards can NOT play TCSC
ANNT EVERYONE: nVidia GeForce4 MX and any GeForce 2 cards will have some confilts with the TCSC demo. Please understand that the TCSC team understands this, and that it WILL be fixed apon the releases of TCSC.

(GF4 MX cards have problems because they are based on the GF2 chipset -- thats why)

If you need any technical help at all, refer to this,

I Don't know where you got your info from, but I'm running a small G-Force 2 MX 200 64MB, With a AMD 1.4Ghz, 512mb ram, and I didn't have to do anything to get TCSC working and it works like a dream.

I can get it to load up to the main menu, but then when I start a game I get the error:

I tried to find resolution but i can't find it anywhere in splintercell.ini Does it say "resolution" or is it meaning resolution. In other words, is it called page size (example) or resolution exactly?

By following the FAQ exactly (cutting and pasting or otherwise) you would be making a big mistake.

You can't have 2 Viewports of X value and no Y value.
Someone got lazy with the cutting and pasting.

So...in the FAQ where you read:

4 - find the line : FullscreenViewportY=480
5 - replace this line by : FullscreenViewportX=600

This SHOULD read:

4 - find the line : FullscreenViewportY=480
5 - replace this line by : FullscreenViewportY=600

Have a nice day! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I dnlded from a game mag demo disk, and at first couldn't run the demo... the first item in this thread shows many solutions, here is what worked with my win98, via apollo chipset based soyo brd, w/ nvidia gfource2 64 card.
In splintercell's system folder: splintercell.ini ::
FullscreenViewportX, changed to 800
FullscreenViewportY, changed to 600
WindowedViewportX, changed to 800
WindowedViewportY, changed to 600
StartupFullscreen=true...stayed the same (true)
I had to change these settings at least twice for some reason, then it (the file) stayed altered.
Demo works great now...
plus there is a billion combinations of persons systems, so some demos just wont work....

I have read all of the FAQ and have a unique problem to inquire about. I downloaded the demo, went to the dl folder, and attempted to install it. When I double-clicked the app, my pc acted like it was going to install the prog (the hourglass appeared for a moment), but then the program never opened. I have updated and un-updated my GeForce drivers, as well as updated to DirectX 9.0 from 8.0. I can not find the source of my problem.....

Any suggestions????

Regarding my problem;
Big thanks to spawnxripx50 on the technical Support Forum;

"Win XP uses Visual Themes and Styles.....Now....Right Click the SC Desktop Icon---The Properties
In this Window click the Compatibility Tab and Check "Disable Visual Themes".....This solves that nasty problem.....Did for me......and if you still have problems after that go back to the Compatibility tab and check "Run in 640 X 480".........IT WILL WORK! "

That fixed the problem for me!
Hope it will help some others with the same error.
Been scratching my head on the prob. I was running a WindowBlinds-theme. Once I switched to a default WindowsXP-theme, I could run the demo without probs.

Nothing new in my post here:

General protection fault!

History: RenderLevel <- FLevelSceneNode::Render <- FCameraSceneNode::Render <- UGameEngine:http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifraw <- UWindowsViewport::Repaint <- UWindowsClient::Tick <- ClientTick <- UGameEngine::Tick <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop

This is the General Protectin Fault that I also get.

It also has become apparent to me that nobody from UBI SOFT knows what this error is, where it originates from or how to fix it.

My PC specs meet and/or exceed the games requirements:

HP 1.8gHz
512MB DDR SDRAM
nVidia TNT2 w/ 64MB DDR SDRAM
DirectX 9.0
120GB HDD

I am at a loss as to what is wrong. People who have this game are running with less than what I have or minimal requirements.

So - To UBI SOFT Engineers and programmers, it looks like this is something that should be addressed in the next patch.

<?int?Core.Errors.History?>: UD3DRenderDevice::CreateTextureDefaultPoolHelper
<- FD3DTexture::Cache <- UD3DRenderDevice::CacheTexture
<- UD3DRenderDevice::PrimeResources <- UD3DRenderDevice::SetRes
<- UWindowsViewport::TryRenderDevice <- UWindowsViewport::OpenWindow
<- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine

i have a PIII 700mhz
256 mb ram
windows xp - service pack one
Nvidia tnt 2 pro with detonator driver

has anyone else got it going with tnt2 pro graphics card?

Also, the bit in the FAQ's that says "FullScreenviewPortX=640" etc - i do not even have those x and y coordinate strings in my .ini file. I downloaded the demo a couple of days ago from this website - is there more than one demo floating around?

Any chance that the guys that wrote this game even look at these boards to try and sort these problems out?

I would like to buy the game, but if this is gonna happen then i will be wasting my money.

HELP!!!!!!

Check line 5 plz...

."2 Windows 98, ME or SE with a 64 MB 3D card

Proposed solution:

1 - open splintercell.ini (see section 4.0 for instructions)
2 - find the line : FullscreenViewportX=640
3 - replace this line by : FullscreenViewportX=800
4 - find the line : FullscreenViewportY=480
5 - replace this line by : FullscreenViewportX=600
6 - find the line : StartupFullscreen=True"

I cannot find line 3 or 4, Where is it in the splintercell.ini?

PLease email me at msw1090@yahoo.com

It probably takes so long cause it's so BIG-duh. Or you could have slow internet.

And don't download it from Kazaa or any other filesharing program, its probably itching with viruses and spyware.

I haven't got a Splintercell.ini just a file called 'Default' which has all the configuration settings.

I just can't find either of the .ini files (Splintercell.ini + Splintercellusers.ini).

I have tried the FAQ but I have a 128MB Geforce4 Ti4600 card and none of the solutions seem to work http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
