I requested clarification from Ubi on whether PC users would have the same gameplay comms elements as console gamers and here is the reply:

quote:
I do not beleive that there will be any built-in voice chat options in Pandora Tomorrow. You will most likely need to use a third party chat program such as TeamSpeak2.

This is quite shocking. First it means that all MP players on PCs will have to get third-party comms software and find a server with separate channels for spies and mercs. Secondly it means that there will be no game-controlled comms aspects, like being able to tap into enemy comms when deploying the spy bullet, etc. It just means you can talk to people as though you were on the phone with them, no gameplay benefits at all.
I was always suspicious about this and persisted in trying to get to the bottom of it in spite of other folks on the board insisting that the issue was settled and that the PC would get integrated comms.
The devs, however, seemed to indicate this morning that there were voice-taps available with the "h" key.
This is a huge deal. Can anyone clarify?

that's not the point.
I would assume that the devs/producers would know more about this than an ubi rep. The devs even knew the specifics down to the key you press.

You are wrong. Read the MP chat logs.

How many times are you going to ask this?
(Beheaded): will i need to buy any special kind of headset to use online?
(+Arnaud) You can use any kind of headset with a mic, if you choose one compatible with your sound card it will be ok ! USB headset work well too.
Happy?

Cmon.. dont you realize that "reps" dont have a clue about what they are supposed to know?
This is common knowledge even in tech support.
I noticed 90% of all software companies dont even realize what services need to be running for their software to work. Training in the US corporate culter is pathetic.
Reps dont get paid crap, tech support staff are employeed and dont even know how to use a PC, I'm not suprised your Ubi rep isnt sitting some place in New Deli making 5.00 / hour.

Just use your mic. No hassle

I'm still confused about the bit where the dev said 'headset with a mic'. Wouldn't a mic by itself suffice? The only reason I can think you'd want a headset is if a) it has a mic attached to it, or b) you want to be able to hear your own voice (I can't hear my voice through my regular speakers with my mic, may be different for others). So why would you need a headset in addition to the mic?

Oh....my....god. *Breathe*
Headsets are NOT mics. They are speakers that you CAN PUT ON YOUR EAR. But now, we live in a world where you can put the mic on the headset instead of sitting it on top of the desk. Those are called destop mics. Mics on the headsets are called "Headsets". Not always "headsets with mic".

Did you guys even bother to read the transcript?
Fromt he transcript that you can find here Link (http://www.splintercellhq.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2557)
=========================================
(Venom06): Hi. 1.Will the Voicecommunication on the PC version be the same like on the X-Box? So i can listen to Mercs or talk to them when i grab them? Or do you have to use a 3rd party tool like Roger Wilco to Communicate. And will the Mercs or Spys get muted when they are grabbed or get killed so the cant tell the other one where the spy/merc is going.
(+Arnaud) all you can do with the headset on xbox is possible on pc, either with USB hedset or one pluuged on your sound card you can also send typed messages to your team or to everybody... as in a lot of PC games
=========================================
If theres no integreated VoIP I will eat my video card....
Ok but seriously with the special features the game supports such as whispering to the mercs you would have to a special voice comm system that you couldn't get with Teamspeak.

Of course I read the transcript. That's why I posted this here. Because there is a contradiction.
There is something very fishy about there being no official mention of integrated voice comms in any of the promotional or marketing efforts of the game for the PC.
