ok, it's actually with all my games, i just built this system a couple days ago

p4 2.8
ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb w/updated drivers
512 mb
90g HDD
cd-rw
FIC mobo 865pe pro w/updated BIOS
420 power supply
7 fans (including gpu and cpu)
winXP sp1/w all updates

logitech keyboard ps/2
generic optical mouse ps/2

now that that's out of the way, what happens is my mouse and keyboard work fine all the time UNTIL i play a game (bf: vietnam, far cry, cshttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif, xiii, half-life, call of duty, etc...) games that obviously require a decent video card. about 3-10 minutes into any game I lose control, the kb and mouse stop responding all together but everything keeps going on screen, i'll look at my weapon (the no-action actions all games have now-a-days) or if i'm being killed i will continue to be killed or whatever, i have to hard-reboot and the kb and mouse work fine (using em now) it doesn't lag or stop or any graphical issue, my ps/2 ports just stop responding,

I plugged in a usb kb and when the time came for the ps/2 ports to stop responding i still had kb response but the ps/2 mouse was not responding.

I really don't want to have to buy a USB mouse and just not use the ps/2 ports all together (i still have time to return it) but it doesn't seem to be the problem, they work, just not when described above

any help would be great, or just point me in a direction i could start lookin'

Strange problem and not one I've ever heard of before http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

When you were using your keyboard in the PS2 interface did you notice if it physically switched off (numlock, capslock lights etc went out) when you had the problem?
It certainly sounds more like a problem with the power supply from the PS2 interface to your peripherals than any driver related issue -- which might also explain why it only happens when you're pushing your PC to it's extremes.

Having said that though your PSU should be ample (although having seven fans might be a bit OTT) and you're not having the problems through your USB interface, so perhaps a PS2/motherboard problem? Think you might struggle to convince your retailer to send you a replacement mobo though on the off chance it could be that :/

Anyway, unless you particularly need your USB ports for other peripherals then you'd be better off getting a USB mouse and losing the PS2 mouse. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

yeah, im using my roomates usb keyboard and mouse (its wireless) and have had no problems, i also tried unplugging 3 fans and running it just to see if it might be a power...basically im doing just what you suggested, just fork out the dough for a nice set of wireless usb kb/mouse combo....this game is frikkin sweet when you don't have any issues

such is life
