While everyone is surely disappointed Uru Live got cancelled, I personally feel glad that there is still something to look forward to - namely the expansion packs, and Myst 4. It really makes no sense to constantly gripe about things no one has any control over - as if posting complaints about the unfairness of Live's demise are actually going to have the effect of bringing it back... no. Just the opposite.
I wonder if all the negative posting during January & February actually hastened the closure ? Could an overall gestalt have been created that lead to a self fulfilling prophecy as to the future success of the game and helped convince Cyan to pull the plug? I am sure that there were many reasons they had for doing what they did, and while the games faults can't be laid at the players feet, perhaps we helped sway the decision a bit? I know it has happened in other venues... so I guess it could have happened here as well. As a teacher, I can site many instances where I have changed my classroom program and student complaints or negative feedback have been the deciding (but not the only) factor, and upon reflection decided after the fact I should have left things alone. This type of decision making process will mostly benefit next year's crop of students. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Anyway, since I am not a fly on the wall during Cyan's Board of Directors meetings, and am not expecting a transcript of such musings to be posted anytime soon, I am making the decision to look to the future and wish this company every future succcess. I can only guess how close to running out of money these guys came with Live, and hope that doesn't happen - no more Myst sequels would be an absolutly horrid future!
I also suggest everyone who loves URU show your support (and help Cyan make lots of money) by buying the expansion packs when they come out and to also get the URU soundtrack... it is STELLAR! Hey, who knows, what the future really holds, right? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
