well what sound card do you have?
try updating your cards drivers, if that doesnt help try turning the sound acceleration down to basic or none in DXDIAG (START->RUN->DXDIAG->SOUND)

I am having the same problem with my sound too and I also have Creative's sound card so this seem to be some kind of problem instead of just isolated incident. Anyway I am wondering if the person who started thi thread fixed the problem and how? Did the upgrading of drivers helped or not? Thx.

Well, he didn't post again so I assume that it fixed his problem. That's the first thing anyone needs to do if they are having any sort of problem. Drivers are #1 (next to good hardware, of course).

Or, you can look at a new motherboard....My new board has 6.1 digital audio on it, but I use my SB Audigy because I bought it before I got this board, so there's no reason for me to take it out. This board's sound is "supposidly" better than the Audigy II's sound. I only paid $91 for it on www.googlegear.com (http://www.googlegear.com) and it has the brand spanking new VIA KT600 chipset in it. Oh, did I mention it kicks ***?

Yup. The CPU fsb is controlled by the northbridge where as the southbridge controls the PCI. Also, the north controls the AGP, which helps with most of the IRQ conflicts ppl have when a PCI device (ie sound card) is taking up the same IRQ....Excellent performance. My benchmarks are up. I ge 15700 with 3dmark2001se.
