I've been posting and sharing on the IL2 and Lomac boards for couple years. I thought I might be able to give back something in return for all the help, information and software items I've received at no-charge during this time.

I've been working on a "COMMUNITY" aerial combat and flight simulator website for several months. I've had the domain name for about two years, but just didn't have time to build the site.

At first the goal was to just build a site to provide a respository and download site for campaigns and missions. The site has grown a bit beyond that.

The final website is an All purpose website featured to a provide a competent community site for "serious enthusiasts" of Aerial Combat and Flight Simulations.

By community, I mean the site is intended to provide most of the same interactive ability of a message boards, except in a more organized fashion. The users of the site will be the builders of the information and content the site provides.

The site currently features:

1. A full featured Message Boards.

2. A news section that allows users to submit their own news items to share with other users.

3. An information section that allows users to submit their own information articles, reviews, etc., to share with other users.

4. A Classified ads sction that allows users Submit free ads and buy from others.
(You do have to register separately for placing ads)

5. A Weblinks section that allows users to Submit their website for linking from the site.

6. A fun feature for cell phone users is a Cellular Phone Text Message sender. It works directly from the site to send messages to cell phone users Currently AT&T SPRINT & TMobile are available, others soon.

7. A very competent FAQs that allows users to Submit FAQ questions and other users can provide the answers. The FAQ is designed to eventually become an ombibus of information and competent authority for information. All created and developed over time by users.

8. A Download page which allows users to Submit their files for download by other users. A screenshot and complete description can be provided by the developer.

9. Users are welcome to suggest improvements, items or categories that they think might be of interest to other users.

Registration is required for using most of the features of the site, for security reasons. Registration naturally is free and easy.

----------

The site does have some test data up now. The site will not be pumped with a bunch of second hand information scrounged off the web. The purpose of the site is to serve a community of users, who will in turn provide information of value to all the community of users.

The FAQ is organized to take the place of many of the repetitive entries we constantly see on most boards. The FAQ should build into many very complete and competent documents over time.

An exciting feature is...comments can be entered on just about every item of information supplied by users. The comments file is tied to respective news, information or articles. The principal purpose of the comments is to provide other users with additional information that can be very helpful as contributed from other users.

I may be asking for it..but let me know what you think http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif If you like the site you might bump this thread occassionally. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/10.gif

An important thing I forgot to mention. I'd appreciate hearing how the site works for dial-up users. I've read so many postings from simmers on dialups and how they're ignored by the website developers.

The message boards can be tweaked by dial up users to turn off most graphic elements, which should make the message boards very dialup friendly.

The site is not graphics rich for that reason.

The site looks a little bare. If you're a bit creative with graphics, it wouldn't be too taxing for dialup users.

Are you on dialup? I know there are many dialup users, who have voiced their disdain of the high graphic content of most gamer sites. If you noticed...the graphics settings have options to turn off different graphic elements within the message boards as well. So, the message boards should be pretty dialup friendly as well.

I realize the site is kinda bare on first glance. Graphic files have been kept to a minimum on the home page.

I realize there is software we can use to optimize the graphic files for more efficient loading of slow connection users.

The problem is...this site is not supposed to be a HOT GAMER site. The principle focus is on providing a community site where more serious aerial combat and flight simulation enthusiats create and maintain most of the content.

Purposely it is built around site member submittals, commments, ratings, reviews, articles and other informaton provided by users members. The FAQ is also a community tool.

Effectively, because most of the content will be user supplied optimizing graphic files will be pretty well out of the question.

The more permanent graphics files will be optimized as the site develops.

If what I've said isn't what your thinking about, let me know.
