Well, I've reached to a conclution...
I HATE EASTER EGGS!
1. They *really* take you out of the story line... I mean, you're all engulfed with the mystery feeling, feeling you're in a total bizzare, unique world, till suddenly you find a joke or something! It really distracts me, you know espacially in games like MYST... the whole idea is to get into it 100% (without forgetting to drink and eat on the process)- easter eggs just take you back to reality...
2. Easter eggs are totally confusing: first, sometimes you dont know whether an easter egg *is* an easter egg or a part of the sory-line... like that strange balcony jump that I've yet tried, and I dont really want to...
Second, you focus on understaning the easter egg instead of solving the game...
Anyway, a mixture of those make one forget what's his real goal... I dunno...
One gets the feeling like he's in a joke-game, instead of really getting totally serious with it.

Easter Egg:
Easter Eggs are found in-game. Go behind a previously unnoticed obstruction? Find a Page or Link. Use a miniscule ledge to jump from a balcony that was initally considered a dead-end? Find a world that awaits!
Game Hacks:
Anything involving game files or the manipulation thereof. (condoned or uncondoned)
False: The creative material on the CD-Rom is yours to do with what you wish.
True - The plastic CD disc itself is yours to do with as you wish.
For those that have never purchased or played a MORPG take heed. Americans have more freedom in RL than anyone has in a MORPG.
And the Lord said, "I am."

100% behind you mr-zebra, please see my post towards what i hope is the end of: "Can't make the balcony jump...there is another way..."
i am disappointed in Cyan's lack of comment on this subject... it has now turned into an issue that will not just 'go away' - i am beginning to believe that this is an issue that only we, as explorers can resolve...
...if Cyan do step in now, with a heavy handed shut down of discussion on what i see as obvious exploitation and hacking, it will only result in a huge backlash of anger and resentment...
a lot of us are i feel, sitting here... watching people hack holes in our world... not knowing for sure if we are correct or not, in our feelings that this is wrong...
in my mind, we shold not wait to be slapped on the wrists by Cyan... before we decide if this is right or wrong...
we have a choice...
we either continue in our destructive searching, sharing and abuse of bugs in the game... that take us further and further away from any thought or hope of finding meaning in our new world, and make us forget that there is a story and real Myst'ery to this world...
or
we make a stand now, and tell everyone... including Cyan... that what we want from our new world, is not stupid jumps and gaps in our world that take hours to achieve with the aid only of extreme mouse preference settings and endless threads of instructions and screenshots... or outright game hacks!?

I don't see why anyone is upset over what's been going on the can make the balcony jum thread. If you dont want to do it dont do it. No one is making you read it or making you try it. Some people want to explore what they will see in Live. If Cyan was really against people doing this then they shouldn't have even put those files in the game. I personally dont see anything wrong with it.

The balcony jump isn't an easter egg.
The cover of the left hand notebook on the Dakohtah rooftop on the table with four notebooks is. The web address on the crates in the Teledahn baron office is.
There's a difference between easter eggs and bugs.

Please note that, i have created
a new POLL titled:
'Everyone, PLEASE VOTE'
because i understand that this issue is one that is difficult to speak out on publically, cos those of us that see it as a bug exploit are drawing attention to game rules that may result in players being banned, and i am sure that while none of us want to spoil anyone elses fun in this way, we do need a way to stand up for our game.
if i am proved wrong, in my anger over this then so be it... i'll be saying goodbye and turning off - cos i want no part in a game like this - but i don't believe that this is, a game like this...
i believe that Uru Live offers us a more meaningful, and wonderful world of exploration... for everyone willing to put there heart into it - Uru Live is no place for hacking or the exploitation and widespread promotion of holes in what is otherwise a thing of real beauty.
please, everyone... VOTE

So what you're saying is that if everyone disagrees with you you're going to quit? That's really sad, and it borders on being childish. Im sorry if I sound rude, but this is the knid of stuff that really ticks me off.

That's so wrong-
First of all, Cyan's not your enemy, and I'm sure they didn't want this bug... why would they? I belive it ruins the expeirence somehow... I think the reason for the jump availble is cuz it's a bug- a bug unnoticed by Cyan...
Second, it's simply annoying to know that there's something in the game- a balcony jump or something- that's possible but not supposed to happen... you can't really get into the game if you know that there are bugs and easter eggs and such...
ugh I'm having a hard time explaining myself...
Oh, and Gatch_2000- dont overreact, lol, we're discussing... what's the point of leaving?

Gatch_2000, I'm not happy about the bug myself. I made the jump long before this discussion found its way here, and never returned, because I don't want to ruin future Uru Live experiences that are meant to be revealed later.
That said, I think there's no avoiding the deconstruction of the D'ni, now that an entire council of people from the surface have decided to make it a public display. Reading the journals and realizing what we're doing by exploring ancient D'ni Ages, I feel sort of guilty for being a part of the process, but I feel this game is about learning who the D'ni were in the past. We can never truly experience their way of life, and we can never truly experience their world for what it was before the fall of D'ni.
I might just be ranting right now, but consider this: years ago, a girl named Anna found a bug she wasn't supposed to find, and by exploiting that bug, she made first contact with the D'ni (ultimately leading to their destruction). Later on, Ghen found a bug that let him power faulty Linking Books, which served a large part of the plot on Riven. And now, a team of researchers have stumbled upon something they weren't meant to find.
And here we are.
So no, it's not right that we're jumping into a world we're not supposed to see yet, but if you market and sell a game that's about exploring uncharted Ages of a civilization we've had a decade to get acquainted with, people will do everything in their power to push the boundaries you set. Because D'ni is as real as you want it to be, and there's nothing more realistic than breaking a few Thou-Shalt-Nots.
Okay, I'm done.

I totally agree with you...
I didn't actually expect people to "stop" all experiments... I more or less wanted to know the feelings for that subject...

i agree maxticket http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif i am afraid that i have perhaps gone a little over the top in some of my posts about this subject... i had been quietly trying to make people realise that the jump can't have been meant to be possible, but then the discussions have all started to turn into instructions on how people should come out of the game... and hack game files, to achieve these already pointless exploits just cos they couldn't pull off the jump required.
heck, i found myself like you... thinking... can i use this stone to get me over that railing? while i was playing, before i got my invite to Uru Live... it's not that, which i have gone overboard about really... if u read some of my other posts i squarely blame Cyan/Ubi for not plugging those holes... it's where it's all taking us that worries me, and i do feel that as resonsible explorers, like yourself... we should know when we've obviously gone too far, report the bug and get back to the game.
when little 'tricks' like this get so tough... that some players feel the need to hack game files, because they want to catch up with their peers who've seen something they haven't... that's not healthy exploration.
i am starting to notice a few new explorers entering Uru Live now, with such bizarre errors in their games... that i fear a lot of them might have followed instructions to hack their games, and will now find themselves stuck... without Cyan being able to offer any help (the moderators have made it clear that we can't expect help if we've messed with our game too much) and that they are going to have to redo the whole game... even uninstal and reinstal it.
