choppy game play!

gforce fx5200 (i know its ****!)
1gb ram
asus k7n8x (i know it rocks!)

felt obligated to post, my first, it seems there is a lot of bashing in the forums

game ran fine till the 'inside the ship' level, lots of chop, unable to move smoothly, etc...

defraged the hard drive (dont know why?)
settings (look at the options page):

machine specs medium
video 1024x768x32

direct 3d9 custom
high low (shadow)
trileniar med (water)
1
medium low (lighting)
medium

runs like a dream now, now slowdown, no chop

cant fix the sound yet though, still sounds like voices and voiceover are on bad cell phone in public restroom

now if i can just get halo and deux ex to run smooth (i know its the fx5200)
