Question about OEM version!!

I have the chance to buy an OEM version of RVS very cheap, and I know people have problems with them.

My question is: since I think they came as version 1.3, and I do not like installing lotsa patches but would like to install straight from version 1.0-1.53, what are my options?

Also, if my bro owns a retail copy, is it possible to install off his retail version, use my OEM CD-Key, and just use my OEM disc to run the game from??

my oem works now, after 1.53. You just have to have a valid cdkey, I dont think they are tied to one set of code
