I've really enjoyed DLing all the great skins that you all make. It really adds to the game. I'm not a skinner myself, but I appreciate hard work. I was wondering how long it takes you to make a skin.

Well ?
it all depends on the skin , or if you already have A template made and what type of program you are using, I have done skins in an hour and have been working on one in Photoshop 7 for almost 2 months now.
But I am still learning Photo shop http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I like to make skins but it takes me a long time when I get working on one and when I get started there's no way I can get it finished in one day, I'm too nitpicky /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Making the template takes really long.
But when you have it you can make a series of aircraft quite fast, since much hard work is done.

Then there is a difference in time needed to skin the various types of aircraft.

Some are really good mapped and give little problems.
But others have nasty things that makes them more difficult to skin. Sometimes you need hours to solve one nasty little thing in a skin.

Then it depends on how you work. A clean skin takes less time a more weathered skin takes more time.
Then knowing or not knowing the tools to make skins makes a difference in time needed.

A millenia!! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Seriously, it takes me from about an hour for an easy skin, and at least a day for tougher ones.

The P40 in my sig took around 50 hours for the template, but that's a bit long due to experimentation. From there, each new skin from that template should only need a couple hours to get the same quality as the first.

Normally takes me about an hour for a fairly quick skin. But some take a day as well for me if I'm doing new layers.

I've not made a template as of yet. I'm still trying to figure out how to use the "no white" filter. If I can ever figure out how to get the base layer done then I would be on my way to create my own templates.

I just finished my first ever skin and it took me about three evenings to do. Still not completely happy with it but I've decided to upload it to il2skins in it's current form. And can continue to play around with the template and improve on it.

My Chaika skin took about 2 Month to develop from the idea to the upload on il2skins. But I did not work all day, real painting time was about 3 Weeks, 2-3 hours nearly all day. 1 or 2 Week searching the internet, collecting photos and drawings.

The hardest part was tracking down where all the polies are, would have been great if the void.bmp would include the polygon outlines. So I spend hours with Photoshop and FB open at the same time, task switching and restarting mission like mad to align everything. (had made some photoshop scripts that exportet the skin on a keystroke)

Now that my template is ready a new skin based on it is only a matter of hours, if i have enough photosources or a clear idea what it shpould look like.

btw, my Chaika template is a 20MB PSD File, containing about 85 different layers (including all the helplines etc) /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif
