My intitial thought was something along the lines of:
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">eqssms01zkaafnnzkb1
getting</pre>
and working the rest of the text out from there... that would mean that e was g, q was e, s was t, etc... but if you put in 'all five' it doesn't work. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Since it says first get all five I went to the post on 5 pieces .. there a picture there with a green letter T on one of the boxes.

I'm at work, so I can't actually work on this puzzle, but is it possible that something like my preivous post (A transpositional reference) is possible with that grid... something like:
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">BEGIN

Hmmm... doesn't quite fit... perhaps there's something there? Also, has anyone looked at the ID3 tag on that MP3, is there anything in that? as I said, I can't from here...

Yeah, I think mystbook.jpg is the ?.jpg that is referred to in the sound byte.
Have you guys seen the Mystworlds site, those of us from the Five Pieces puzzle have our name in lights http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Also, there was this:
10 New winners will be selected each week for 4 weeks, at the end of which, all 40 winners will be placed into a random draw for a "Grand Prize". Good luck this week!
Does that mean that we can't win more than one puzzle? Or maybe because all of the puzzles will get the same 10 T-shirts at the end...
Anyway, back on topic - I'm gonna wait to see if Revelationist posts a second clue today... that'll tell us if we need to solve something else with the first one or just wait for all five to come in.

I wonder if the "order" is established by the numbers? Can't be anagrams, not enough vowels. And the "n" sequence is problematic - is there an English word with the same letter three consecutive times?

Remember that it might not be a simple cypher. If it is a cypher the "n"s might not all be the same letter once it's uncoded. And on top of that, there might be spaces in there.

*ponders*
So...
We have:
I wanted to BEGIN WITH an idea...
GETTING it was easy...
Then ALL I had to to do was prepare...
And now I'm ready with FIVE clues...
PUTting the solution together is easy...
IT is simple as pie...
Not ALL will figure it out IN time tho...
Use method and ORDER to do it...
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">eqssms01zkaafnnzkb1
0n3n2annn0h1dn0d0rh</pre>
IT is simple as pie...
3.1415926535897932384626433832795... I wonder if 'simple as pie' has anything to do with the answer. Pi is often used in conjunction with circles - a code circle, maybe?
Use method and ORDER to do it.
Does this mean that we have to re-arrange the text? Perhaps that is what the numbers in the text are for - we have to use 'n' of that particular sequence?
Unfortunately, until we get further clues, this is looking particularly puzzling; yet, I get the mental feeling that I could just - nearly - touch the answer... that I've seen something like this before.
Damn my poor mental facilities.

i think they are talking about visual order like the first one will be first and the 2nd one last.. as the first one is at the top and the 2nd one is at the bottom
and if he meant pi he would have said pi instead of pie so i doubt that

So did you guys just use the music clues to get the filenames of the cluesheets? If so, this isn't very useful, but anyway.
Those 2 themes we've heard so far aren't directly from any Myst game - they've been made up.
However they do have similar themes to:
1. The Myst 1 Myst Island flyby,
2. The main Myst 3 Amateria theme.
But I guess they aren't useful anymore since you already found the codesheets... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I was just looking at the Amateria picture again, and noticed that the words "together" "as" "it out" and "order" have a green shadow, while the rest of the words have a grey shadow. Could this mean something?
I can't find any differences in the shadows on the Myst Book image, so this may or may not be related to the solution http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

wosborne2002, I could be wrong, but I think the green shadow is just because the background behind those words are greenish...
I was just thinking, maybe letters such as I and T from Then (from the mystbook image) are also to be considered when it comes to "BEGIN WITH GETTING..." Maybe after some order changing it could make some sense... who knows...

What might be the significance of 'Grid' when taken in conjunction with the series of letters/numbers we have been given so far?
I'm not a math/programming/html/code afficianado, so I can't really take it any further than that. It just strikes me that the use of the word Grid would not be an accident...

And the letters are encoded..so back to what they were just means back to before they we encoded

Good call, Astroman, and welcome to the forum! I hadn't thought of that. You could be right...
I was noticing that it says "WHAT the numbers mean?" instead of "WHAT do the numbers mean?" Maybe it means something, maybe not. I tend to think Astroman is right, but the placement is screwy if we read left to right. I somehow think it won't be that easy.....

I think numbers are probably punctuation and maybe the zeros are even spaces. But as Revelationist says, I don't think this is the actual order of the letters.
begin with getting all five
put it all in order
make the letters what they were
Perhaps at the end Revlationist will give us a "grid" to put the letters in order?

[speculative random guess alert]
putting them all in order could mean stacking them, based on their position on the clue page, while grid could mean that after the clues are put in order, they will read something on a grid, like up to down, or down to up.
[this concludes the speculative random guess alert, we thank you for your cooperation]

I dont think we can start anything until we have all five of the 'codes'
So there was an idea, it took a while to think how to set it up, and now Revelationist has got all the clues ready and will realease them (or has??)
The answer is easy (and something to do with pie) but is hidden maybe in plain sight, (importance of the spelling tho???) we need a methodical way of solving it
can we make it to the end...hmm maybe theres some more hidden somewhere, a path? the leeters never where themselves....is it maybe that the clues begin with getting all five etc have the next cluews hidden inside them? and what symbols can this mean....
and so ends my first few thoughs on looking at this... *runs away to analyse it more*

I too think we first have to get all the codes ( which is probably why Revelationist posts one every day ? ) and them we get the "grid" , or the order of the sentences ( not jetuser and I wrote the sentences not in the order of appearance of the picture but in the order top->down when you overlay the pics..)
I think we probably need to read them in a circle form because of the pie?
I've noticed the spelling of tho, but figured there wasn't enough room for though (unless he/she adjusted the font size ...)
Isn't there some software to download a complete domain ( eg www.revelationist.com (http://www.revelationist.com) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )?
use order and method...I think I'll try order.jpg and method.jpg now...

Then we have to decipher the re-arranged letters. But the numbers - they may be easy, but their meanings still escape me.

If the numbers are punctuation, then it seems likely that "0" is a space, as it occurs 12 times so far. "1" might be a quotation mark or a parenthesis, as it occurs twice in succession, indicating a punctuation mark that comes in a pair. (Strictly speaking, this would argue against parentheses, as they come as a left and right parenthesis, whereas you can use the " for both left and right.) The other numbers appear (so far) only once, so they might be : or ; or / or something like those.
Still, what they are and where they go are two different questions. If we are supposed to pick letters from beginnings and ends, this will disrupt the relation between the letters and the numbers. Hmmmmmm . . . .

If 0 is a space, then that would make (at least) 4 one-letter words in the whole puzzle, and there's only 2 in english. Unless there's a different cipher for each line. Also 0 and 1 are next to each other in the first line, and I've never seen a punctuation mark right after a space.

That's a good point, but it may not be a problem if we end up discarding most of the letters. The instructions to take one from the beginning and one from the end may be pointing to a way of selecting a subset of the letters, which could solve that. Of course, that means we could start the deciphering by taking one of the one-letter segments and assigning it "a" or "i", and then seeing what that does to the other letters.

I think what Zardoz is saying is likely right, in combination with reading vertically rather than horizontally...then, we wouldn't be looking at 4 different 1-letter words
I have tried deciphering based on frequency of apparation of letters in english, but with one line missing, and likely some vertical shifting necessary as suggested by jetuser, it's not making much sense.

Jet - I don't think so ; I rearranged them because the picture said take one from the beginning, then one from the end. Which is what I did, then I caesar ciphered it.. the 0 has to be a space ( as the clue says the numbers are symbols) and I assume the 5 is a ! .( exclamation mark - I misspelled that in my previous post http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )
I'm still puzzling on the rest though. anyone think of any other appropriate 10-letter word that suits the topic of the message? breaking that word will likely break the rest of the first line...

Just so you know, there's a bit of a typo in one of the clues. It doesn't really matter much anyway since it's obvious what it's supposed to be once decoded. In the Mystbook hint, that last character is supposed to be the letter L, not a 1.

For me, having finally figured out the code (with help) is kind of a moot point: I am so tone-deaf, the only theme I was ever able to recognize was the first one, even after I knew where the music was from....I won't be one of the first ten, even if I am the first to see the clue and have an hour's head start lol
It has been fun...wonder what he's cooked up for next week???
FWIW, I'm guessing the missing word will be one from Revelation, so is a made-up word, in a way...
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

The solution is to to take a letter from the first clue and then last clue and so forth till you get to the middle of the middle clue
Then you shift all the letters back by one ie a = b and z = a, then plug the correct letters in.
I had all of it but the actual answer figured out before the last clue was posted.
AFGNCAAP
08-20-2004, 09:38 AM
The solution:
ehqrs0sdm0sn0dlzhk0ananfnna2znk3bnl0
first ten to email bobogoob@aol.com
vhsg04hvzmsltrhb40hm0sgd0rtaidbs0khmd0
with "iwantmusic" in the subject line
vhkk0vhm0sgd0oqhyd5
will win the prize!
Shift all letters +1 and take from first, then last, then second, then 2nd last character...

Forgot to say - I got it as well, but am probably too late ..and was too lazy/tired to type an explanation.
But well, here is mine :
if you make A->B B->c and all you get
frttnt -albbgooalc -
wt iatui"i h ujc ie
wl i h rz!eipetnwli
nltebsetn csmnw"hi
o.o@booo imeo e si
take first and last letter form first and last line and you get :
first ten to e- mail bobogoobo@aol.com
read second and 4th line same way ( god, that took me ages to figure out, how dumb !!)
and you get
with "I WANT MUSIC" in the subject line
and middle line first and last form same line ( that's the one I figure out first..)
Will win the prize !
