Hi there,

I've just downloaded the MP demo from gamershell and installed it. The game worked fine untill I tried to connect to a server. When I joined a server the game just closed and I was back @ my desktop again. So I uninstalled it and downloaded it from a different location. Same problem! I've run the configuration program and all of the requirements are good. Everything has a green mark behind it. Can anyone help me?

P.S. I've got a Radeon 9800.

I've got this too... Could be something about opening ports on routers or something... Anybody have a a solution? Seems like many people have this problem (check many threads on first page).

Ever tried to host a game on a firewalled router? And also, I don't want to host, I want to play this game on other servers cuz I don't have enough upload bandwidth to host games.

You need to either enable dmz on your router or forward the ports. Dunno about forwarding but dmz works here so i can now play.

Same here, got an ATI Radeon 9800 pro

First attempt, with the old drivers; I could join a server, ingame, but all the textures were seriously ****ed up.

So i downloaded new drivers, bling. But when i clicked 'join server', after the joining screen a back to desktop crash.

I tried to create my own game and could play it without any problems.

Help us! ;(

Unfortunately... it's not just the demo.

It's the full version as well. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I was however able to play a lot of games last night, and I must say... well... the game is probably the most fun multiplayer game I have EVER played. It's also one of the most frustrating ATM.

Please make sure you have checked the readme. Here is an extract about firewalls.

Problems with Firewalls
If you have a firewall on your Internet connection, the following
ports should be open (consult your firewall documentation):
TCP 40000 to 43000 included
UDP 44000 in input/output

The MP demo reminds of the Deus Ex 2 pc version when it was first released.......

At least just try to put a little effort into the pc version?...
Sounds are messed up badly in the demo.
No documenention on the voice. (that is always on...)
Loosy key bindings, with no option for more then 1 key per action, nor can you have shared keys.

Laggy multiplayer.

TEMPORARY SOLUTION HERE

Okay guys, you're obviously not alone with this problem. It's not just a problem with the demo, its also a problem with the full version (that I have). I was having these problems as well and I even went so far as to call Ubi and they were like "its a new game we're not sure" so I took matters into my own hands. It's not a problem with your routers, it's not a problem with your internet connection at all. It's a problem with Pandora Tomorrow not wanting to multi-task. There are several programs that I've isolated as ones that have crashed the game to the desktop upon trying to connect to multiplayer servers. One of them was my nVidia Desktop Manager program. Another was my PopUp Killer program. My advice to all of you who have been having this problem is to try and close or disable all the programs that you have running before trying to connect to a server. Hope this helps guys, I know it's helped a lot of us who have the full version. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Let me know how it works for ya now.

bladeofnight
03-25-2004, 12:33 PM
Oh yeah, by the way, another problem with being able to connect to some and not being able to connect to others is because of PunkBuster. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ok I've tried to open up the ports. It actually worked for once. So I could play and so I did. One game! To check out the online gameplay. The first thing I noticed was the low FPS. Damn SC1 ran like soap on a rollercoaster full of snot and this game has a lot of slow down. Anyway after setting the sound volumes to a higher level and testing my mic (which was 2 euro's and works perfect! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) I started exploring the map a little bit. It's good to see that the spies realle have to infiltrate the building and you don't start in the building itself but in the sewers. After a little talk my teammate left me. So I was alone and had to do it all by myself. I heard the mercs running around (footsteps are very loud!) and one merc spotted me so I tried to run into a vent. I walked but the merc blasted a frag grenade in my @$$ so I was dead. After respawning and trying it again a couple of times I discovered my gun and electrocuted a merc. Nice!! After the time was up I wanted more. So I searched for more games and guess what.. SAME DAMN BUG!!! I've played ONE game online and after that the game crashed.

1. Fluke if i can get connected to UBI.COM server.

2. After it says "can't connect to ubi..." it keeps me LOGGED IN therefore not letting me try to RECONNECT.

3. Crashes when trying to connect to a server.

Everyone in this thread is having problems, Ubi should sack their testers as they obviously do bugger all.

Ok, it worked for me, but [1/5 worked/didn't work]! It kept freezing my PC. I had better stability when i hosted "my own server". I have win2000, GeForce3/64MB with 56.64 and ISDN 128 (128dl/128ul).

I guess there are some serious issues to be worked out.
Maybe ubi was too scared of rabid gamers to delay the release, and iron out the networking stuff.

Ah well, it'll probably work fine on xbox live. It's all a microsoft conspiracy!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Has anyone else besides me notice a big preformance decrease? I played on LAN and the framerate is about half of what it was on the single player demo. 1024X768 at high detail its silky smooth, at 1024X768 at medium detail on LAN its pretty stingy.

Havent played online yet since I cant logon to the UBI servers. I get my Xbox version tomorrow; system specs;

Athlon 2600
1024mb PC3200 RAM
128mb ATI-Radeon 9600-XT (4.3 Cat)
80gb Maxtor ATA-133 HD

i have this problem too, BUT i just played for like 1 hour in a game http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif and it owns!! you have to search for a low ping server, i was in a dutch server for 1 hour and i live in holland myself so maybve its better if you can find a server from your own country.

i have the exact same problem that everyone is talking about. i don't understand why it does it. i have a router but most games work, the only ones that haven't worked before for me are Age of Empires 2(old game) and CS v1.6, but raven shield worked and that is also ubi.com. i don't understand. i just want a solution.

My router doesn't show any unauthorised accesses on the connection, meaning it isn't that. 'Sides, RS indeed works behind router.

This isn't good PR for Ubi, no good PR at all.

hey people, lots of games have major problems when they are first released. You should be used to this by now. It's the nature of the beast here kids, different systems, different specs, millions of different variables. It still sucks though that I can't even connect to the ubi server, but oh well.

ok since so many of u guys have this problem - when u join u get kicked to desktop i decided to post it here, i dont mind anyone reposting this in other parts of the forum but this is what i have found out:

u can only join the demo that is the same as yours... unfortunatly for some reason the game shows all demos.

First u must find which demo is urs, go to create multiplayer game and it will be listed somewhere there. eg - demo 5

then go back to the screen where lobby is listed and choose the same demo no eg demo 5.

Now u can join any game which has a slot empty without getting kicked to desktop but i still get a few errors from the transition from the load screen to the preparation screen.

have fun killing!!!

usually if you cant connect to the ubi servers there could be one of the following reasons.

1) You have a firewall not allowing it to connect.
2) sometimes it times out and have to click on it again usually the second time works for me.
3) dont know any other ones when I do I will let you know.

I even turned my firewall off and still cant connect to ubi through the game. Trying to connect 20 didnt work. Oh well.

I was setup in the DMZ and I still couldn't join so I don't know if this is going to work for anyone else but at any rate heres how to put yourself in the DMZ:

Open up your browser and type in http:// followed by your routers ip address. (typically 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1)

It's going to ask for a name/password. If you or noone else on the network has ever changed it it's probably going to be one of the following:

Name/Pass
admin (blank)
admin admin
(blank) (blank)
admin 1234

If none of those work you'll have to hunt down the manual for your router.

Now look for an "advanced" tab. The name of this tab and it's location change from router to router so you'll have to dig for it. But once you find it you should see a tab or link that says "DMZ". The DMZ should have the beginning of an ip address (that looks just like the one for the router) but the final digit set is blank. That's where you fill in your last digit set.

( Which means you have to have a static ip address.)

To assign yourself a static ip do this:
(windows 2000/xp)

1) Right click "My Network Places" Go to properties

2) Right click "Local Area Connection" Go to properties

3) Scroll down until you see "TCP/IP" Select it and click properties.

4) Uncheck "Obtain ip address automatically"
(It will also uncheck "obtain DNS servers automatically)

5) Enter in your desired ip address but note that the first three octets have to match the first three for your router so for example if your routers ip is 192.168.0.1 YOUR ip address HAS TO BE 192.168.0.x And x can be anything from 3 to 252.

You also have to input your DNS servers which can be found under the "status" tab of your routers control panel. (The thing you had open earlier)

And keep in mind that placing yourself in the DMZ basically removes any sort of protection your router affords you. I wouldn't get too paranoid about suddenly coming under attack, but it does leave you open.

I firmly believe that the reason for delaying the demo was because of the bugs.

They releaised the bugs, and realised them in the retail version too, but too late. So instead of releasing the demo before release and putting off potential buyers, they release it afterwards once alot of people have already bought it, refusing them the chance to be put off by the bugs.

Which technically is a good way of going about it from a marketing point of view. But in just plain cheap.

Oh well, aslong as they patch it, and fast.
