i have a question about reformating my laptops harddrive. The laptop is fairly old, its an intel PII with 256M ram, 4Mb video card... i use it for school cause i cant bring my desktop aound with me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif ... lately ive been having a lot of problems and i just wanna reformat it so that the computer will get rid of all the **** thats on it.... for a 10 gig HD it sure can hold a lot of ****... anyway, when i try to reformat (i right click on the "C" drive and click reformat, it gives me a message that i need to close some programs that are using the HD... well, after closing everything i stil get the message... are there any other ways to reformat?...
edit: one more thing... the laptop is running win 2000pro... dont know if that makes a difference
thanks guys.. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

well you're first problem is that windows files reside on that HD that is why you can't reformat while windows is running. What you need to do is set the laptop to boot from the CD drive(bios setting) and put youre windows disk in the drive, restart laptop and it should ask you to boot to cd and during the install you can choose to format the drive...
