Did anyone else get the new patch for XBox. I'm curious as to what it does other than break the Optimatch and Quick Match features, and put me up to level 4 for no reason. It also appears to add an option to specify the laguage of your game. Also, revenge mode can no longer be turned on in ranking games. I haven't noticed any other changes, and there is no new content. If anyone can find any other changes please tell me.

Edit: The rankings now display penalties and your rank increases every 100 points. If you have more than 10 000 points than your rank is AA. I don't know of any in game changes because I can't find a game to play.

The broken QuickMatch/Optimatch is a known issue during the time they are rolling out the patch - until 4pm EDT today. See http://forums.xbox.com/ShowPost.aspx?&PostID=7494716 for the official XBL word.

I can't believe this. Yesterday I had just about resolved myself as to the absolute pantsness of the scoring system. But today. A patch that prevents me from connecting to games, and prevents people from joining games that i have set up. Apart from friends. Speechless....... oh yeah nice icon when i talk to myself, smart yeah. Unnnnnnnhhh!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

Xbox Live Auto-Update Details

Here is what you can expect to see included in the next Auto-Update for Xbox Live

IMPROVED FEATURES

We have increased communications quality in lobby and indicate who is talking in the lobby.

When creating a gamesession, the player can now specify the language he wishes to speak. In optimatch results, we display the language of the host selected. Also we offer a new optimatch criteria letting you specify the desired language.

We've prevented the "Games In A Row" and "Revenge" parameter to be used in ranking mode.

When the host changes the game mode or the ranking option, we indicate this to the other players (the game mode is diplayed in orange, the ranking icon blinks). This remains until the ready state is switched on again.

Ingame, we now add a little up or down arrow to show whether an objective indicated by an Enhanced Reality icon is located below or above the player's location.

Also we now test if there is an opposite wall close enough before sticking a spy trap.
MAIN BUG FIXES
We no longer display a corrupt profile message when a profile is created in the offline part and then used in the online part. New profiles may now be used in both parts safely.

There was a temporary or complete freeze ingame when hacking a ND133 or at the end of a game. It's now fixed.

When a player fell on the head of another player, he might be frozen there for a few seconds. This has also been fixed.
WE HAVE ENHANCED THE RANKING SYSTEM
Ranking Levels have been recomputed using a linear system (100 points = 1 level). Players above 10 000 points are ranked AA. Players with negative points are ranked 0.

When a player leaves a gamesession, we now give a fixed and higher penalty (25, 50 or 100 depending on current scores). And penalties may be applied partially (as long as a player has some positive points in the current specific leaderboard). If the penalty cannot be applied completely, the remaining penalty is kept and will be applied next time.

The ranking score board now contains more information:

Number of points lost during this game

Penalty applied (due to a disconnection at a previous game session)

Total number of points in this specific leaderboard (e.g. "spy in neutralisation mode")

Total number of points in overall leaderboard

The number of points lost or gained are computed using the overall leaderboard points.

We keep track of the number of penalties applied and display it in ranking details when reading from the overall leaderboard.
We hope this Auto-Update will grant you an even greater pleasure in playing.

Please note that the leaderboards will be cleared next week, once Microsoft's tournament is over.

anyone know if it applies a penalty to the partner of the person who leaves? I sometimes got taxed if the person I was playing with left the game.

I hope that you don't get penalised if someone else leaves a game cos that would be dumb.

I still think that the scoring system is dubious if it requires a penalty system to be in place. You must consider that there are a great deal of legitimate scenarios that may require a player to leave a game, ie. tea time or connection problems.

Its all a bit over complicated. There appears to be a greater amount of discussion concerning how to a avoid being penalised than actually gain points. This is peculiar, usually discussion revolves around the ways that you can achieve a high score using different types of kill etc.

The penalty points that you get are always higher than those you get for winning, and whats with the losing loads of points when you win? I think that that is psychologically very damaging. Personally I don't enjoy seeing a player that has beaten me fairly getting penalised. Especially by an unusually large amount. I don't think a higher penalty point system is a good move, basically penalties do not grant greater pleasure in play in my opinion.

Although lets be fair WICKED GAME http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

This is great these are all the gripes I had with this game and posted about numerous times... fixed.

Also being able to see who's talking in the lobby heh, I sometimes would pop on the players screen to make out who's who.

Now.... Maps anyone?

<****> Spy for hire, like a mercenary, but a spy.. w3rd <****>

Oh yeah, and since the patch that corrupt profile thing has happened to me. Also I really don't understand why if a host quits you all get taxed that is weird man.

There was a bug that if the host left the game or was dropped by the server everyone got penalized. According to the original Ubisoft news item about this latest XBL patch that would no longer happen, and only the host would be penalized if the host quit or was dropedd during a ranked game.

Cheers Wolfrat. That makes more sense. I still reckon that somethings shifty when a scoring system requires you to have to 'penalise' anybody.

There should be something to cover dropped connections or other legitimate reasons. My connection went bas right at the end of a match and then, of course, I couldn't find the people I was playing with. They were pretty cool guys, but I didn't have a clue what their names were, so I couldn't find them again to add them to my list.

Also, I drop out of games where the spies (teamamte or opponents) play deathmatch.

Of course, there's no foolproof implementation of this, so I imagine they'd either have to come up with a different criteria for penalties or drop the game quit penalty altogether. I don't see either of those happening and it's probably not a bad thing. Personally, I could care less about ranking. Even once I become highly skilled (don't worry guys, don't fear for quite some time!), I wouldn't mind still being a level 1 if it meant I wasn't constantly playing Rambo wannabe spies and was having fun. A level 30 skill with a level 1 rank would also be the epitome of stealth and misdirection! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

So, I'm not an L1 (maybe it's 0 now...) JUST because I stink at MP. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Of course, I only started yesterday, so I don't feel too bad yet.

Does anyone know if there is a comprehensive breakdown of the ELO scoring system available? I'm still cofused around the losing points for winning issue.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif I'd like to look at example scenarios and stuff. Any links appreciated.
