In preparation to support bass at my progress/leaderboard site on day one, I'm trying to figure out how bass was actually implemented in the game. Ubi press releases specifically says 'bass arrangements have been added to all songs'. Leading me to believe that is exactly how they did it. So when selecting a song you will now be able to select from one or more new bass arrangements as well as the previous arrangements for that song...?
Anyone who has seen it is that specifically the way the implemented it or some other way?
Thanks for the help!

The way I understand it is, that at the beginning of the game you select either guitar or bass, and if you select bass, it opens a whole separate interface (with it's own color scheme) just like the one we have now, with all the same songs, but exclusively for bass. The only thing is, with guitar, you can have different arrangements (single note, combo, chords), But I can't really see them having more than one type of arrangement for bass, pretty much every arrangement for bass will be single note, except for the occasional double stop or triad chord, which doesn't really happen often enough to warrant a whole separate arrangement.

Thanks. Having reread DreamAwake's E3 report it sounds like that is how they have implemented it. Seems kind of clunky, especially if you are playing mutiplayer or in cases when you want to switch back and forth. I agree in nearly all cases that I can't see a need for multiple bass arrangements. But does this mean there is no concept of arrangements for bass mode...? So you simply select the song and never select an arrangement or did they keep the concept, in case now or in the future, they want to have multiple bass arrangements for one song. So even if only one arrangement exists, you select it after selecting the song when you are in "bass mode".

The reason there should only be one arrangement is that there is only one bass player. I think there is one band that has two but I could not tell you what that band is. It is common for bands to have 2+ guitarist. It is not a lack of them doing different arrangements just there is only one arrangement to do. I could not tell you about the arrangement select screen at this point but in multiplayer it might have a ready confirm. That would seem a reasonable thing to me.

Haven't they said there will be separate arrangements for picking and slapping?

I think they said they would have technique sessions for those things and specify if a song is picked, plucked or slapped. I don't think you'd have different arrangements of the same songs with that though.

This. All slapping is is just another technique, like hammer-ons and bends. There will likely be one bass arangement for each song, and if the song has slapping and popping, there will be some kind of note symbol to iindicate which notes are slapped. Not every note in a song with slapping is slapped, if a bassist is doing that, then they're playing wrong. No need for a separate slapping arrangement.

Ha ha! Big Bottom was the first song I thought of while reading earlier parts of this thread, since they're all playing basses (except Viv Savage, of course). That's three arrangements right there!

Same here, slabossiere. I remember seeing the 3 bass guitars and 1 had to be a double-kneck. I laughed my rear off (no pun intended). Too much fun, for sure.
