Athena Sword is really worth it!! It is everything that the original Ravenshield should have been!!!!

First of all, the game engine runs more smoothly now. I did a clean reinstall of RVS, using regedit to erase all ravenshield files firstl. I now run the game with 75 fps!!!

The maps are beautifully done. So far, I have seen beautifull medieval castles and european towns done in smoothly running UT2004 engine!!! The game has classic maps from Rogue Spear like Siberian Base. It has classic maps from Urban Operations, like Subway.

The new guns have sexy sounds! I like the SM4-CQB for close quarters, the G3kA4 for an assault rifle, and the SL8-2 as a semi-automatic sniper rifle based on the G36k with thermal. I haven't tried the m240G lightweight machinegun and the M1014 (12 gauge) yet.

All I can say, is that Athena Sword has put me back in with Tom Clancy and Rainbow Six team as the main game for now.

Agreed. The new maps alone are worth the 30 bucks. Great job!

Out of curiosity...how can it be smoother? I mean, I have installed RVS on 2 computers so far. Both ran exactly at 60 FPS like they should. Currently I'm running 1600x1200 resolution with all my settings to the max. Even have AA and AS on. 60 FPS...never goes down ever. I use the latest version of FRAPS btw if anyone wants to know. And here are my specs: P4 2.0 gig, 768 megs of Rambus, GF 4 Ti 4600, running on DSL, DX 9.0b, Windows XP with no service pack. I even could run Winamp and Trillian in the background without a single fps hit in game. Alt-tabs smoothly, so my point is how much smoother can AS make it? From what I've read the only reason I'd get it is so I can play on any of the servers that upgrade. I'm debating whether to get it or not just so I am up to date but if new maps and weapons are really all there is I'm not sure if I can huck out the money atm.

i guess i can say this... good thing a few people can play this game and play it well... i cant say that its a problem for everyone.. i will say that its a problem for A LOT OF PEOPLE tho, and nothing that these people can say to make anyone ignore the problems it has. guess community is getting sick of it, all the letdowns. it keeps hapening.

Thank you thread starter, you have kinda convinced me of buying Athena Sword. I was going to buy it but your thread gives me more reason too and the new gamemode sounds promising! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

In defense of the original poster, the new maps run great for me. No problems what-so-ever. Now, if only UBI could get rid of their dev tools they left enabled. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

who knows.. noobs dont know a lot about computers. nor would i listen to their posts. not that he is wrong. as some dont have any problems, but as for a new engine, and smooth things out? i dont think so.

the unreal engine so far has some great maps in unreal 2k3 and 2k4, nicely done and great frame rates, its kinda weird that ravenshield doesnt have the capabilities to do what it can do, especially at those frame rates. i think thats ssorta what he ment.

Try turning off Antialiasing and anisotropic filtering. With both off, I get zero performance problems.

Well if you have to pay for it, which most people do. Then you feel like you wasted your hard earned cash if you don't or CAN'T you use it. Makes you want to find out where Mr. Ubi lives, because Mr. Ubi is a person it's not just some made up marketing game :P, and demand your money back for a useless product.

Slight bugs aside (please give Ubi a chance to fix them) theres a lot of fun in Athena Sword. Well worth an hours pay in my opinion. RvS/AS and Vietcong/Fist Alpha are my 2 favorite games for the last year and I always come back for more. Looking forward to the "Mission Pack" in June. Don't let all the negative posts on the forums keep you from enjoying Athena Sword. More of my favorite games...whats not to like.

Ummm, I guess you haven't been around for the past 1 1/2 years. UBI has had numerous goes at fixing issues with this game. What it finally came down to is UBI devs saying they have never been able to recreate the nade/ladder bugs in their test environment so there was really nothing for them to fix.

Been playing RvS co-op since the summer with my pals and we very rarely get these nade/ladder bugs. With all the patches that came out shows that Ubi is committed to the game. Even a big company like Ubi does not have the resources to duplicate every computer config. I think Ubi sold something like 50,000 (or is it 500,000) copies of RvS. That's a lot of computers to find bugs. I imagine making a computer game like RvS is pretty complicated and if reproducing the bug was easy with their limited configs and were able to be easily fixed they would of done it by now. Like an intermittent electrical problem in a complex piece of machinery they are the hardest to diagnose. Plus the fact that its a multiplayer issue...not many complaints on the singleplayer which I think is where Ubi puts its main effort. Before patch 1.41 cheaters were the main issue...Punkbuster was bought to "cure" that problem which must of cost Ubi a substantial amount of cash so that mutes the point that Ubi only is "in it for the money". In the big picture of things $20.00 to $50.00 is not that much money to spend for the amount of time we have playing & enjoying the games. Nothing so complicated ever be perfect for that amount of money so learn to live with what you got. Enjoy the games...for thats what they are and worry about the bugs in the $30,000 car you have or will someday buy.

AS ran a bit choppier on my comp...
I upgraded my processor since then, and it now runs smoothly, but the fps are lower on AS maps than on majority RvS maps, and for some reason even w/ my rets closed I can fire multiple bullets dead on a guy and not hit him once.

I reinstalled clean, but haven't even played it since then...so I guess the jury is still out!

Running a 2500+ processor w/ 1 gig PC 3200 RAM.
