Three words:

Jack. Bauer. Syndrome.

No Ironside? Too bad... but I could have lived with it. Especially at first when I had thought this was some kind of prequel. Faster more bad *** Sam? I'm also cool with that. I loved Conviction, I just wish the levels were more sandboxy and less linear pathing.

But in my personal opinion none of these are as much as a game breaker to me as how much it seems a conflict of the character I have grown to know.

Sam Fisher has saved the day so many times. He's paid in blood. He paid in losing a life with his daughter. Sure, he's a patriot... but there is something to me that is far more important to Sam than someone like Snake (MGS) who has no family, and who knows other things than being a soldier. Sam has humanity... which was well displayed in Conviction when he thought he found out who he 'lost' his daughter to. He basically royally ****ed Third Echelon up the *** as a result.

I think that Sam has seen too much of the politics, too much of the corruption, and has given too much of himself to it to continue on. In my personal opinion, if the president of the United States offered him the job after Sam saved their life and unraveled 3E's plot... he would have said, "Thanks, but no thanks." What has the US done for him as a result of what he has done for the country? He has a second chance to live a life with his daughter... would he really pass that up after all that?

I think where the REAL Sam Fisher is right now, is on some hot beach in Belize sipping a margarita with his daughter living it up. And I think anyone who would have asked him to go back and work for the ****bags who ****ed him time and time again, he would have given them the one finger salute and vanished.

This story... just seems way too out of character. And with the other little downers, such as no ironside... and Sam's botox injection, I just don't really see how this game is going to reboot the series in any positive way. They should have either done a prequel, or switched to a new character. A new splinter cell. To me, this is not Sam Fisher.

But I guess all of this is in the eye of the beholder... but I personally fault Splinter Cell Blacklists prophetic failure to bad writing.

Also, I use the Jack Bauer syndrome as a term for heroes who unrealistically save the day, and have their story driven out much longer than it should be for the sake of making an extra buck. It cheapens the character... and makes them lose their value to us, the players.

i have a good feeling about this game. Plus Zack has been saying that we even havent seen the stealth gameplay yet, so we only have the tip of the iceberg. We will get an awesome game. Im almost certain that we will be pleasantly surprised.

Won't argue with you there... but again, as I said before. It is not the gameplay, nor is it Ironside I am worried about.

Just read up on the mocap stuff and their decision to switch actors... and I'm not nearly as upset about that as I was. Watching the Heavy Rain development, and knowing how that new facial animation technology works, I understand why it wasn't plausible.
