This will be a bit long, if you have the time (you do, don't lie) please finish reading
I'd like for everyone to post their opinion of what i say here, I've been a tremendous fan of the SC series since it began, and I'm seriously considering not buying this new installment. Don't misunderstand, this game looks fantastic, and i actually loved Conviction, but it's not about the game, its about the franchise and Sam Fisher.
Now, I have noticed that a very considerable amount of people agree with me, and are understandably upset about where the series is headed, and especially angry at the changes that are being given to the now 50 something year old Sam fisher.
There are two things that us fans identify Sam with, his goggles and his voice. The grittiness and dark humor that is contributed by Ironside's voice was implemented for a reason, and to change that is to cut Sam in half. but i won't go on with this argument, as many other already have, because i'd like to offer some suggestions that had me up all night. that's right. i'm a big fan and this really means a lot to me.
Continue what you are doing ubisoft, the game looks fantastic, and if you want to go more in to action, fine, as long as it's fun. But please, do NOT do so with Sam. From what i understand, Sam is the new leader of Fourth Echelon, so why not give him an employee? Sam is well past his mid life crisis, and needs a break. Conviction was a great finish to his legacy, so pass the torch if you want a quicker, younger spy.
Make Sam his mentor, trained for years, the new splinter cell can get the job done with everything that Sam has taught him. You've invested a lot of time in Eric Johnson with the MoCap and voice work, so keep him. But make him the new guy, and Sam fisher the old guy, the one we love, who's voice we recognize.
Sam can like Grimsdottir or Lambert, speaking instructions and mission info in to his protege's ear; giving the orders this time. You could even have fun with it, the new guy can be a bit conceited, and sam can return with his well known dark sense of humor. it would be a relationship, one that is built on screen to make a stronger story.
I remember the early images of conviction, a long-haired, bearded sam fisher hiding from the cops in the streets. You reworked that to make the Conviction we have today, so why not do the same with blacklist if your fans demand it? take my suggestions in to consideration, keep the new actor Eric Johnson and the faster, quicker more action-based moves you've created. But please, just make sure that if you use the name Sam Fisher, he's not the one that can climb around like a 20 year old, and sound like a college kid.
And who knows what you can do after blacklist. Many people miss playing the fan favorite Chaos Theory, where stealth was king and Sam needed to rely on the dark and his gadgets so he wouldn't throw his back out. Maybe his Blacklist student gets captured, and Sam has to go back in and rescue him, to show how it's really done. In the shadows.
