Horse Retired Before It's Time

I had a young horse go into retirement at only level 1, with 8 age points, and before it's aging bar had even reached the end. :(
I only trained this horse maybe 3-4 times in it's adult stage, and never competed with it.
Is this a bug/glitch? Or is there something I am missing here?

Same thing happened with me on two young colts that I bred, they retired at 8 in the first adult stage. The one i bought from the store seems to be working normally, as did the one I started with, just the ones I bred did this.
