Hey guys!

During the decompression process of GRO I get an error at approximately 48% saying that the Patch failed. "Error in patching. Do you want the Launcher to attempt a recovery?"
If I say yes, the whole thing fails again. How do I get rid of this error?

So, I got .NET Framework 3.5 (I had it alread installed, needed it for Visual C#) and I followed this guide here:
I fixed this myself after about 20 minutes, I'll post the problem and the fix here.

The problem is, the installer downloads everything (1.5 something GB on my system), then begins decompression, and right at the end comes up with the error that the OP is having.

I watched the download in resource monitor (the files and locations etc) and didn't find anything, so I went into task manager, and opened the file location for Launcher.exe (the program that does the download / install.)

It's in a very random directory somewhere in the appdata folder.

Anywho, the fix is, lauch the program that installs the game. Open task manager, and in the processes tab, find Launcher.exe. Then right-click, and click open file location. This should open the aforementioned long directory.

Once that's done, close the game launcher, and then right click on Launcher.exe and Run as Administrator.

The launcher then re-downloaded everything, and decompressed and installed it no problem.

Let me know if that works for you.

As a side note, I believe (I guess, I'm not certain) the issue is caused when changing the default install directory. The default is C:\Ubisoft\GRO or something like that, but I changed it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\GRO (purely because I like to keep all my programs in the program files folder lol). Anywho, the laucher runs without administrative privileges it seems, and trying to install or modify files in the Program Files directory requires elevation, so at the end the installer is trying to move the folders from an AppData directory to the install directory, lacks privilegs and fails, causing the error.

Hope this helped.

Didn't fix the problem for me, unfortunately. Anybody maybe got another idea how to fix this? I'd really like to finally get to playing this game. I've been struggling with this patching problem since I downloaded the launcher for the first time about two weeks ago or so... Thanks!

Hey animagladius,

Sorry for the trouble. Make sure that the following is updated:

2. DirectX: If you have DirectX 11, it is possible that you may need to download the complete version. You can do so here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35
3. Antivirus: If you are having trouble launching the game, the launcher might be blocked by your firewall and anti-virus. Try de-activating the anti-virus and running the Launcher.
4. Internet Explorer: Even if you only use Internet Explorer for browsing, it is necessary to have an updated version of the browser.
If you are still having troubles running the Launcher, please let us know.

Hey Lauren!

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately all of the above didn't help either. What now? :(

Hey there! Sorry you're having trouble installing. :( Oddly enough, even in cases where the latest .NET framework is installed, you have no idea how many players tell me uninstalling/reinstalling it fixes their issue. If that doesn't work, send us a support ticket with your DXDiag so we can continue troubleshooting with you.

1. From Windows, click Start->Run
2. In the Open: box, Type DXDIAG
3. Click the save ****on to save the file as a text file in your Desktop.
4. Click the back ****on in this browser and attach the file at the bottom of the page.

If you do need to send in a support ticket, make sure you include in your message what you've tried so far, otherwise we'll likely make the same suggestions already given in this thread. :)

There actually is one. In the launcher, click Help and then click Uninstall. :)

Thanks! I'll do that right away!

(I didn't know the support would also support games still in the beta. Most betas I've been part of, wholly relied on the internal technical forums and the feedback sections there.)

Edit:

I will keep you guys posted if we manage find a solution.
