View Full Version : Cover-Denied Firing

When you are attached to cover, you have a limited angle of fire. This is quite possibly the worst bug or design choice (not sure which it is) in Ghost Recon Online. Even though you can see your enemy, and your crosshairs (or your sight/scope) is pointed directly at him, there is a chance you are aiming outside your allotted angle and your gun simply won't fire. It's hard to describe, but I'm sure we've all experienced this. This gives the enemy who is trying to flank you around the piece of cover which you're using (at least this is usually the situation in which this occurs) a definite advantage, and you are punished for using cover in a cover-based shooter game.

I have two mutually exclusive proposals:

Get rid of this limited angle of fire. With this solution, we should be able to fire our gun at any angle and at any object that falls under our crosshairs.
Automatically snap the player out of the cover when he tries to fire outside the prescribed angle. This way, the devs get to keep any reasoning they had for disallowing all angles of fire in addition to not punishing players utilizing cover.

This bug/flaw MUST be corrected. It is unbearable as it is.

EDIT: Sorry, I should have posted this in Feedback, but I can't delete the post or move it myself.

I have had this problem a few times. The most notable would have to be, when I was on RoofTops sitting at the Kegaro pillar of death, (On A side right as you enter the battlefield by dropping down and walking up the ramp.) GirlFriday was crossing the bridge from B side about to run up the ramp when i saw her, I sighted up pumped alteast 70 rounds down sight while she tried figuring out where the fire was coming from. I was scoped in and did not realize that my bullets where hitting nothing but the wall... After she spun around and pinpointed me I got a face full of shotty >.<'''

That's actually a different issue, but just as bad. The issue I'm referring to is when your gun will not even fire, period. You click the mouse but-ton and nothing happens.

That just goes to show that you don't know how to properly use the "Kegaro Pillar of Death™"... muwahahahaha

"Was gonna create a thread myself... This is incredibly f****ing annoying lol. Another thing thats annoying is when you walk around cover and it puts your gun away even when its clear you have plenty of room to fit your rifle.

It's actually a fairly good design, probably to irritate people who play too much CoD. It's to help give a more realistic method of firing as opposed to games like CoD where you're able to shoot at people while completely behind cover and only the top of your head is visible. Is it a little flawed right now? Yes, it could use a bit of work. it doesn't need to be taken out, and if you think it does before it's tweaked, you need to go back to CoD. I don't know about you, but I like only being fired at, when my enemies weapon is actually pointed at me

I mention this in my "Five Things That WIll Kill This Game" thread. I don't get how the cover system works when you're at the edge even.

When you're at the edge of cover, there are two ways to peek around: first, you can press and hold the directional key appropriate to where you want to look out, or second, you could aim down your sights. That will let you peek out in the direction you last peeked out. (If you don't peek out using one of these methods, it means you're not quite at the edge.)

RARELY does that work. Often times I can't get out of the cover and fire unless I get off of it. Directional keys and aiming doesn't work more than 75% of the time. If I can, I'm going to record some video of this. Going to the absolute edge of cover is pointless and voids the purpose of cover (as you're not exposing your body beyond the cover). You should be able to pop up ANYWHERE behind cover.

The devs know about this (well, at least I think Chem said something about it) and they should be fixing this.

In my experience, most of the nonfiring due to cover can be overcome by pulling back from cover. You now have an unlimited field of movement.
