I love my tuner:
http://www.bestguitartuner.co.uk/boss-tu-2-chromatic-guitar-tuner/

In line with both a straight through and a switched output. Works perfect with RS. I can't say I have perfect pitch, but I have perfect recognition of out of tune instruments - makes it painful to go to my kids music events ;) I've found that the RS quick tuner lets you through with tuning way too sloppy for me, so I added my own tuner in line. Multiple benefits too... can check tuning in the middle of an event (string breaks, etc.) Also means. I have more cord to work with and I think will increase the life of the RS USB cord as I don't have it plugged into my guitar - just leave it plugged into the tuner.

For general tuning I use

For doing setups/intonation I use:

I use a polytune, mainly with the strobe for awesome accuracy. One of the main reasons I got it rather than stick with the clip on I have is the use of my own guitar cable with Rocksmith, the same as you noted.

this may sound stupid but its something I've wondered about. Everyone has noticed that the in-game tuner kinda sucks... but what I was wondering, will Rocksmith recognize notes better from it's own tuner (even if it may be out a little) or will fine tuning with an external tuner actually improve play? or will rocksmith think you're "out of tune" because you didnt use it's own tuner?

The tolerance is pretty wide for notes in the game (which is why you can still score ok with the lax tuner), if you tune with your own tuner you shouldn't really score any higher/lower... It should just work. The more accurate tuner (the one you have to select to go into, not the initial tuner that shows up) is not horrid.

I use an inline tuner. http://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-Electronics-Digital-Tuner-single-Footpedal-Space-SUPER-BRIGHT_p_1084.html
one of the reason I do this, is so that I my RS cable is not plugged directly into the guitar and wear it out from moving it around all the time.
and it is faster and more easy to tune my guitar.

I do use an electronic tuner, and I've noticed that RS's precision tuner tunes to A=438 instead of 440.
Anyone else seen this?

I really want a polytune tho [as alohilo mentioned he had above] those things look sick

Actually the default Rocksmith tuner is more slack than if I use one of my tuners and it does affect the scoring. I'll tune per Rocksmith but find I'm missing quite a few of the A string notes (yellow) (lots of <<). During playback I'll take the guitar to my man cave and use my Chromatic tuner and find the A string is a full step off. I tune it, come back and play the song and get a better score. And it happens fairly often. Now I think (I haven't tried it yet) if you use the Advanced Tuner once or twice while playing, you'll have a more in tune guitar than if you leave it to the default tuner. I find it easier to just walk over to my tuner and tune it than go through the Advanced Tuner.

^agreed. The precision tuner is much more accurate than the default tuner. However I like to verify with my Cleartune iPhone tuner

I was checking out the polytune on youtube, looks like a very cool tuner! I wounder if RS could use something like as the tuner just before the song. it would be very fast.

I usually use the precision tuner to tune the bottom E (or D for drop tuning), then pause the game and tune it myself. It's easier and more accurate to me to tune by hitting the harmonics on 5 (E) and 7 (A), and repeat until you get to the B string.

I use the RS precision tuner mostly, because I always know where my xbox is. I have no idea where I put my tuner. I also downloaded a tuner for my DS, which is pretty interesting, because it has a minigame where you play notes to pop bubbles. It's sort of like Ducks.

Another vote for the Snark tuner. Mine has stayed clipped on my head stock for months now

I don't touch the in game tuner, I always have my cable split with a Y and running to my rack so I can tune anytime on the fly with my Korg tuner. I wouldn't recommend tuning by ear as nobody can do it but lots claim they can, however a tuner will prove them wrong every time. FYI Behringer makes a cheap tuner pedal, it's $24 I think, works pretty good I carry one around to small jobs with me when I don't lug my rack with.

I've used a land line telephone to tune my guitar before, but now I remember a song with A used pretty frequently and go off that, once I tune A then I use Harmonics to tune the rest. so really I don't need a tuner or I am the tuner. lol

I have a fender acoustic electric with a built in tuner... I always use that to tune while the game loads. I do find that better tuning = better RS scores, particularly on the Low E and A strings. (Red and Yellow)

Also, I have taken to making sure that other notes on the string are in tune as well. For instance on the Low E string, I test the 5th and 12th fret. Sometines the open string can ring in tune but the 5th fret or 12th fret can be 1/4 to 1/2 step off. This really affects my scores, so it is worth the time to tune it.

then your intonation might be off adam, something thats going to take more than a tuner to fix, but simple to do.
