Uplay is the worst service I have ever encountered. Ubisoft's games continue to let me down. I purchased Splinter Cell Conviction through Steam and am unable to launch it due to your “game-launcher”. What in the world is a “game-launcher” supposed to be? What were you thinking when you imagined having one more layer to get through to play MY game.
After the game launcher attempts to look for updates, it fails, then tells me the Ubisoft service is unavailable. I purchased this game 8 months ago and I can’t even play the single player let alone online co-op. I have reinstalled the ******ed game-launcher from the Ubisoft direct download. My network administrator has opened all necessary ports:
9103, 9100, 10196 (UDP outbound/inbound)
80, 3081, 3105 (TCP outbound)
22350 - 22380 (TCP inbound)
My Windows firewall is disabled and my personal router is DMZ’d.
You have a broken and completely unnecessary system. Other companies allow their games to be handled by the user and actually played. This isn't a Steam/Valve problem. Ubisoft, /you're/ the problem.

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems, have you submitted a ticket with support?
Also when re-installing the launcher be sure to remove any left over files, see here http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14404

Hello Ender.Go... do you really think that the "Game Launcher" is the problem here? If you have not been able to play the game for 8 months because "After the game launcher attempts to look for updates, it fails, then tells me the Ubisoft service is unavailable", then my first inclination would be the game is not connecting to the internet... not the "Game Launcher" itself. Let me explain... it seems to me that if the "Game Launcher" was the culprit, then you would most likely receive some kind of error. But in fact... "After the game launcher attempts to look for updates, it fails, then tells me the Ubisoft service is unavailable" says to me that the "Game Launcher" is working fine... but you are not connecting to the internet to perform the automatic update or connect to Ubisoft Server. Don't you think that it could be a hardware /software conflict on your PC end?
You mentioned "My network administrator has opened all necessary ports"... hmm, seems a bit confusing to me... why then would you (or your network administrator) feel it neccessary to enable DMZ (a very bad idea) on your router? Unless you have verified that all these ports are open, then you must assume that they may still be closed (you can use the command prompt with netstat or http://www.pcwintech.com/simple-port-tester).
There can be dozens of reasons why you are having this problem/issue... but, without providing adequate/detailed information for troublesooting, it's next to impossible to determine the solution (see example: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/660829-this-has-to-be-sorted-out-is-it-steam-or-ubisoft).
Please understand that I am not critisizing you... Steam or Ubisoft is not to blame in this issue... it's you. You have little knowledge or understanding of PC Concepts/Literacy/Troubleshooting and are in denial... you hate to admit that you are incapable of solving this particular problem/issue your having... and so it's always easiest to blame others, blame the makers of the game. I have been purchasing Ubisoft games for well over 15 years and I have never once encountered a bug/problem/issue that could'nt be resolved with just a little effort. I have been playing Splinter Cell Conviction for 1 1/2 years and have over a hundred friends (on my Frineds list)... and we play for hours with NO errors and NO crashes. Ubisoft games are by-far the best games available on the market... hands-down.
Good luck.

Temporarily enabling a DMZ on my personal router is not a very bad idea. My network admin opens the ports on my buildings router, and I temporarily enable DMZ to see if that is causing me a problem (which it shouldn't in the first place). There's nothing confusing about it...at least there shouldn't be. When problems arise that I can't figure out any other way extra steps are taken to deduce the problem. (I wasn't misleading, but you misunderstood, when I said I've owned the game for 8 months. I have not been actively pursuing the playing of this title. I, like many reasonable people, grabbed the game when it was on sale on Steam. Sorry if that lessens me in your eyes further.)
Ports are verified open. And I'm really happy for you that you play for hours on end and that you have so many friends. That really helps me and the /many/ people who are having like problems. Keep telling us that.
I suppose I will continue in my little knowledge and lack of understanding. I should know that a game-launcher makes playing the game easier and supplements the whole gaming experience (or lack thereof).

Hello Ender.Go... your'e right, enabling DMZ "temporarily" is not a bad idea; but you never mentioned "temporarily" in your original post. Listen, I commend you on your troubleshooting and trying to deduce the problem... but your original post is confusing. I assumed you only had one router and if you port forward correctly, then you would have no need to enable DMZ... see? But, as it turns out (in your new post) you have more than one router in the mix... one personal router and one building router. HINT: This could have been helpful information to post when trying to resolve a connection problem/issue. I'm gonna go out-on-a-limb and say, I think your problem and solution is somewhere in the mix of the two routers.
In my prevoious post I mentioned "Friends" and "play for hours" in hopes to inform you (and others): "It is possible to play Splinter Cell Conviction Multiplayer on-line without errors/crashes". It just takes a little effort (on our part) to resolve any problems/issues. Negative remarks/claims aimed at Ubisoft, Uplay or Steam will not help you solve the problem/issue... only with positive effort and a mind open to new ideas can help you solve them. Once youv'e made your mind-up that it's Ubisoft's, Uplay or Steams fault... your mind is closed to plausible solutions.
Good luck.

I just want to update everyone here on my progress. No matter what anyone like Green.Hornet says Ubisoft just isn't a good company. They do. not. have the customer in mind when they're making their games. There's a reason why so many wait for games by developers like Ubisoft to go to the bargain bin.
I /by chance/ happened to find a post about port 13000. No where in Ubisofts documentation is this port mentioned and it was the port that I needed opened.
Not here: http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13514/~/what-internet-ports-are-required-to-play-splinter-cell%3A-conviction-online%3F
Not here: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/299827-Splinter-Cell-Conviction-Ports-Forums
But if you put all the pieces together from about 6 different cross-checked sources you'll assemble a list like this one:
44301 [UDP & TCP]
45301 [UDP & TCP]
49928 [UDP & TCP]
Outbound TCP 3074
Outbound UDP 3074-3174
Inbound UDP 3074-3174
Outbound TCP 10130
Inbound TCP 10130
These may have some in common with those listed above:
Port range: 3074 - 3174 Protocol: TCP/UDP
External port: 3155 Internal port: 3155 Protocol: TCP
External port: 3163 Internal port: 3163 Protocol: TCP
External port: 1001 Internal port: 1001 Protocol: UDP
External port: 7788 Internal port: 7788 Protocol: UDP
External port: 9100 Internal port: 9100 Protocol: UDP
External port: 9103 Internal port: 9103 Protocol: UDP
External port: 10196 Internal port: 10196 Protocol: UDP
External port: 80 Internal port: 80 Protocol: TCP (This port should be forwarded by default)
External port: 3081 Internal port: 3081 Protocol: TCP
External port: 3105 Internal port: 3105 Protocol: TCP
Port range: 22350 - 22380 Protocol: TCP
TCP: 13000, 13005, 13200-13999
That's what it took for me to be able to just login to their system. Before I opened the last line (13000, 13005, 13200-13999) it wouldn't login. So there may be a shorter list...employees of Ubisoft probably know judging from the email on page 3 of this post (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/555861-Splinter-Cell-Conviction-server-is-currently-unavailable-Forums/page3) yet they don't make it official on their official page listed above.
"Ubisoft games are by-far the best games available on the market... hands-down." <-- what. a. laugh.

Ender.Go... Ubisoft games are by-far the best games available on the market... hands-down... if they are not, then why would you still be trying to play Splinter Cell Conviction? Dude, you are the only laugh here... it took someone to remind you to get off your lazy *** and troubleshoot to look for the answer... and finally you did. And thank goodness for that, otherwise we would all be subjected to more of your rants.
Ender.Go, you obviously have no clue what your talking about when it comes to Ubisoft and your'e beginning to sound pathetic. It's quite simple; if you don't like Ubisoft or Splinter Cell Conviction, then DON'T PLAY UBISOFT GAMES... I for one won't miss you.

Science of Ubisoft's Fanboys: Because I want to actually play a game I have purchased it makes those games "by-far the best games available on the market". That is not sound logic in any way.
Troubleshooting isn't scouring the internet in search for very basic information that the vendor company should have provided me with. And after I find that information, post that information for others, complain that this is definitively something that they are lacking and /the/ fanboy tells me I'm "pathetic".
Green.Hornet's solution: "DON'T BUY UBISOFT GAMES". In my world caps means screaming. Youch.

Having the same problem. UBI sucks, that's all.
"then why would you still be trying to play Splinter Cell Conviction"
Give me full refund and I won't bother to try this any more....
