Sure I understand why game companies do copy protection but when the last 2 games that I buy BOTH will not run cause of copy protection IMO they have gone to far.
I purchased the new BF Vietnam game and when I tried to run the game it keeps asking me to insert the CD even thou it was in the machine. So I take that back and swap it for Farcry. Now for some weird reason it keeps saying I have some CD/DVD software running on my machine when I have nothing even close to that. The only DVD software I have is my DVD player that does not start up when the machine boots. And yes I checked msconfig and there is nothing running that I dont know of. I have 2 CD drivers, DVD and normal CD Drive and nothing works.
To me the copy protection has gone too far when a legitimate purchased copy of games are unable to be run cause the copy protection of the game is getting the wrong information.

Guess I am off to try Breed or UT2004 now. Hopefully one of those will work.

Ching !! (rings up another lost sale on the cash register) . One day you'll learn, Ubi http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

The CD/DVD thing is an Ubi special.. nobody else does it. The message you saw was "CD/DVD emulation" blah, blah..

Far Cry has been coded to be incompatible with virtual CD/DVD drive software, like Daemon tools, Alcohol 120 etc. Apparently the US packaging warns about this - unfortunately nodoby else's (UK and Aussie confirmed so far) seems to.

There's a big thread on this in tech support.

Breed works fine & is an excellent game ..... which I was hoping Far Cry would also be, but like you (& god knows how many others), I can't play it either & have taken back for a refund.

Haha, I've experienced this with UBI software earlier.
It's ridiculous, they think they're stopping piracy by denying people of using software that is more often than not applied with legal purpose.

At any rate, I like to make images of my own cd's, so I don't have to worry about losing them.

Just download the newest version of Daemon-tools if you have it.
It should solve your problem. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Problem is Naakkve is that I dont actually have any of these programs actually installed or running on my machine. It just seems to think I have which IMO is a joke.

Have you people actually tried contacting official support? That should have been the first thing to do.

why? so you can sit on hold for an hour? message boards are far more helpfull than official technical support in my exp.

I was lucky, I use a program that gives me a Virtual Drive (I forgot what it was called) and to my suprise, Far Cry worked perfectly! For those of you who's CD's have that error, well, I guess if you wait... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Well, I guess I'm glad I signed on to this forum before I spent money on Far Cry. I also ran into this problem with two other games and if this keeps up I'll be too paranoid to buy any more games if this copy protection issue doesn't get straighted out. Technial gives me 60 things to check after they tell me there's nothing wrong with my computer and it still doesn't work.

Too bad. After the demos I was relly looking forward to playing Far Cry.

I made an image using Alcohol 120%, no problem.
And beleive it or not I have bought the game.

I wanted to make the image & mount it so I don't have to keep the DVD in the drive all the time. Much better, as it doesn't take for ever for the DVD to spin up when the game starts http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I did a few hours after buying the game & ran through everything that I had done to try to fix the issue. They hadn't a clue what planet they were on ...let alone able to suggest a possible solution.

As stupid as it is, this protection does not detect emulation software at all. Daemon works fine.

But it does detect all burning programsm aka clonecd and clonedvd, and you have to uninstall them to get the game working...

I had the same problem.

You DO NOT have to uninstall(at least I didn't) I have Alcohol 120 on my maching and have had NO problems. I do use the original cd to play though. Wonder why I don't have a problem? Are you sure you can't run it using the orginal CD or are you trying to use a vertual cd?

i had the same problem on both far cry and battlefield vietnam. im running a nforce 2 chipset on my mobo. i read somewhere that rolling back that driver to the 1.45 driver would solve it. and it did. i can now play both. so if any of you have nforce chipsets, roll back the driver and try to play again.

hope this helps some of you

My MoBo hs the Nforce2 also, and I have the latest drivers and I didn't have any problems with the game.

Yea, I have Nforce2. I have Alcohol 120% on my system & the game installed fine.
Then I made an image using Alcohol & then mounted it onto a virtual drive.
Now I don't have the DVD inserted to run the game. Just the image mounted on a virtual drive http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
