So, we have a thread for what we have to play the game with... But I'm planning to buy a new guitar in the next couple of weeks, so I thought it might be nice to have a dedicated thread for your window shopping, or to get feedback on a potential model you're looking at... I'll start:
Up first is a 2010 Fender Special Run Sunfire Orange Stratocaster with H/S/S configuration. Here's a pic:
http://www.musicwarehouse.co.uk/100-thickbox/fender-fsr-standard-stratocaster-hss-sunfire-orange-flake-maple-neck.jpg
I love the metallic orange sparkle finish. In the sun, these things really glow. I'm also pleased with how the humbucker sounds in the mix.

This is what I'm drooling over, but at $2500 I won't be getting this Gibson Les Paul Standard Ebony any time soon:

I usually don't really like black guitars, as they're often just too plain jane for my tastes, but that's awesome. I really like the ivory they've matched with it, as well as the more bronzed tone of the control switches. That's a beautiful guitar.

I'm just the opposite - I really like black. I like that it's kind of low-key, yet still very cool. I do like the flashier colors too, but as a beginner I don't need a "look at me" style of guitar. :)

Oh, I know I'm definitely in the minority there... just look at the number of black guitars out there... they wouldn't make them like that if folks weren't snapping them up! But I don't think of it as a "look at me" as much as "I'm looking at it" and drooling... lol

I've always liked the PRS guitars, but it was half again as much as the limited edition Gibson I ended up with when I bought my first one. Not sure it would sound significantly different from my LP, though, until I actually play one.

I got this Fire Crackle Charvel Model IV, that I am putting together. I had to do some minor touch up on the body, and some more clear coat. I need to polish it out. I have all the parts, and EMG pickups to go in. I just gotta find the time to finish it up.
Here it is next to my black Model IV. I always wanted one of these, but I could not afford one, back then.

I also have a whole stack of alder out in the shop (garage), that will make about 3 Strat bodies and about 4 Tele bodies. I just gotta get busy.

They're birds. It's a PRS thing. I think it's just got the standard dots on the side.

Oh my lanta... I stand corrected: that's beautiful. I love the shorter scale necks with the Jackson 12"-16" compound radius, if that was a neck-through I'd be offering to buy it. ;) I love the graphic on that one, you should play it in your next video cover!

Not at all sure which maker or model yet, but definitely going to be a 7.

Broderick's Jackson sig is coming out in 6 and 7 string models. :D I'm just gonna have to see if I'm ok with the full 12" non-compound radius they're going to have, or if it's a nice enough guitar for me to have it shaved down to 12"-16" by a luthier.

Ok, I'll play along. I've certainly been looking, and I've only had Rocksmith for a little over a month now. I've been looking at Epiphones mostly, because the cost on a Gibson is more than I can see myself spending. Now, if I was a major Rock star, with a recording contract, playing a world wide tour, then yes, I would buy a Gibson. Unfortunately, I've not seen the guitar that I'm considering, at any of the local shops I've been to here, but there are still a few more I need to check out. But here is the Epiphone that I am considering as my next choice.

If we are talking about next guitar, and not necessarily our dream guitar (mine is currently the Gibson BB King Lucille model (http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/ES/Gibson-Custom/BB-King-Lucille-Limited.aspx)), I think I am looking at either the Epi Wildkat (http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Archtop/Wildkat.aspx)(semi-hollow body with licensed Bigsby), as it straddles both of the guitars I use presently (Ibanez JetKing 4 solid body, and a Greg Bennet jazz box hollow body), and it just oozes awesomeness (in my estimation), plus it is only $299 atm at MF, or else I was looking at some PRS guitars (a local dealer is a PRS distributor, and they are pretty swanky little things, so I may look that way, if I have enough money burning a hole in my pocket).
But since we are talking next purchase, it may be a bass, whenever bass support for RS drops.... I don't have a need for a new guitar (need does not equal desire, but unless I want to sleep in the shed, I have to control my impulses :) ), but I may be able to talk my missus into a bass (one of my daughters had a brain injury, and I might be able to convince my wife into believing it would be therapeutic (and easier!) for her to learn the bass, as compared to the devil's 6 string! Yes, I am shameless, and will use any excuse to satisfy my GAS!

I've been looking at the Wildkat for probably 3 months. Like you, don't need it. Figured to buy it once i could actually, you know, play;)
And also plan on a bass purchase, though I think I'll try thru Rondo music. Read enough good things about them that I'm curious to try out one of those models

For the bass, I am thinking about going to the Fender Jag bass (http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0327900506) (the cheaper one, to start off with, definitely), as I have been somewhat intrigued by the Fender lineup lately (especially the Jazzmaster and the Jaguar models) so maybe this would be a decent introduction into the Fender world (can't say that I have felt the Fender love with the Strat's and the Tele's.... likely because they are so ubiquitous). Might go with one model down (~$169 CDN) in case I realize that the bass just isn't my bag.....

I have my next guitar on order already, but won't get it until august. Agile AL-3200 semi-custom from Rondo Music. LP style guitar with mahogany neck-through construction. I ordered it in Rootbeer flame finish with P90 pickups, ebony fretboard, mother-of-pearl block inlays and triple binding on headstock and body (single binding on neck.) I can't wait.
It should look something like this, but with block inlays instead of traps and P90s instead of humbuckers.

I'm thinking about a Les Paul with p90's too. Probably an Epiphone. I really like those Epiphone Wildcts too, but I can't justify that right now as it's so similar to my Ibanez semi- hollow. Although most likely I'm going to get another amp first. I'm thinking Peavey Classic 30.

My next guitar is to finish a SRV style Strat I have been working on for a while:

Dang, I love this thread as much as the "what are you playing Rocksmith with" thread but it's very bad for my wallet. I've been looking all over for one of these in the vintage sunburst and finally found a Guitar Center in Oregon that had a floor model that they sold me at close out prices. It should be on it's way so I won't know how bad it's been abused till I get it. It has a 30 day money back guarantee. http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Designer/Wilshire-PRO.aspx

Did you check out the Epi LP PlusTop Pro/FX (http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Epiphone/Les-Paul-PlusTop-PRO-FX.aspx)?? I was seriously considering one of these (and still might, if I feel the urge for a FR trem), and the price comes down on MF (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/epiphone-les-paul-plustop-pro-fx-electric-guitar) every once in a while (set up email updates for price drops/clearances to get notifications). This is getting a bit of price creep into the upper ranges of what I would pay for an Epi, but the hardware is pretty nice (IMO) for an Epi.

Yes they sound way different. Make sure you spend some considerable time with one in your hands using it plugged and unplugged.before purchasing. I don't feel comfortable playing a guitar in Guitar Center or any place like that so I bought a Ibanez off the shelf and hate it. I can't keep it in tune, so I switched out original tuners and replaced with Grovers, that didn't help , still a problem. Then I still don't like the sound plugged in or unplugged. It is a beautiful looking guitar which I thought I had to own because of my love for the Blues. But this beauty is aging and dusty sitting in my bedroom unused. I'll trade it back in and get a Bass when RS comes out with that option. I don't want to put Ibanez down because I have a Ibanez accoustic that plays, looks and sounds beautiful.
Good Luck

Semi-hollows have resonance chambers that are usually carved with an F hole of some sort, and it gives them a distinct sound. With distortion, there is a bit more feedback because of it (not a bad thing) and lends a unique tone to the instrument, and have a generally warmer tone because of it as well, depending on the wood. Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother uses an ES-335 as his main instrument, and Josh Homme of QOTSA has his signature Matons that are semi-hollow (and used an Epi Dot quite a lot after Kyuss, when he used a solid body Ovation as his go-to axe). Those are two noteworthy players known for playing semi-hollow guitars, and they both have insanely great tone in my opinion. I think I saw a Dave Grohl sig somewhere that had the 335 shape and diamond-shaped F holes.
I don't know as much about full hollow body guitars, they aren't used with distorted or very overdriven rock as much (a whole lot more feedback than the semi-hollows), but I do know they are often called jazz boxes for a reason: beautiful cleans.

Ugh.. I'd really like a semi hollow too. rodgermack - Is it just one string that doesn't stay in tune? Is the nut binding on the string? That's really the only reason other than bad tuners that would cause a guitar to not stay in tune.
To stay on topic.. I'd like one of these.

This thread is about your "next" guitar. While your Washburn is great and all, trust me, there is always a next one. Start thinking about it.

Just ordered a Taylor solidbody standard as my next guitar. Was torn between a new Gibson Les Paul or the Taylor. After playing both at Guitar Center I fell in love. Should compliment my ESP EC-1000 nicely.

In no particular order:

and then eventually maybe this one:

You will love the 5122DC,... but be prepared to have the rattle-matic bridge worked on once or twice before it settles down. I've had mine for a while now and it's a beauty!

You know.. I've got a couple of Corts for electrics. My acoustic is a Taylor.
Local guitar shop has quite a few solid body Taylors that are failry cheap, bout half off. I think they are getting out of the solid body.
I also played around with the American Strats and Tele's. They seemed to play really well, but I couldn't tell much of a difference between that and the Chinese Fender. I keep hearing that the American is a ton better.. and i'm really leaning towards the American Strat.
Anything else anyone thinks I should look at?

Depends on your budget. I say go look at the American Strats they are phenomenal guitars for the money, in fact they were my best guitars until I got the PRS Customs (which were about twice the money of the american strats). Make sure you go for the deluxe Americans, the upgraded tuners and whammy bar are worth it (IMHO).

So... I am considering getting a.second guitar to play slightly heavier stuff and was considering getting the Jackson Kelly JS32. I kind of want someone to say that it is terrible but... I played its brother, the Rhoads at guitar center.and loved the neck shape and.feel.of the frets but I think the kelly looks cooler (not overly important if it plays like garbage though. Could somebpdy tell me about the kelly if they have one. Btw, I know getting the low end model not to expect miracles but I am not that great at guitar so getting technically a 3rd.one is.a lil daft. Can't help it

I really thing the gold hardware goes well with the black. In fact, The Ebony Les Paul Studio with Gold Hardware is going to be my next guitar. I found one for $500. I really didn't have that much money to drop at this exact moment, because of other upcoming bills. But they are allowing me to make payments. I should have it by the end of next month.

Actually it was a local pawn shop that has it. I saw it there probably two weeks ago, and they had it listed at $799. I was checking it out, and was tempted to get it then. I went back today and the only thing they had hanging on the floor were Strat style Fenders and clones. I asked the manager if he had any in the back. He said that he would take me back and see what he has. I mentioned the Gibson Les Paul that I had seen and he said that he sold it to a guy who, later returned it. Went back and there it was. Took it out front so I could get a better look at it. I started asking why the other guy returned it, and he said that the guy was complaining about the neck. So, I started checking out the neck. The neck does have a slight bow. Strings are a little high around the 12-15th. But the neck looked great. Wasn't bent up or down. As slight as the bow is, a Truss Rod Adjustment should all it will need. I will take it into my local shop and have them do a complete, proper setup on it.

What's up with the Great Seal of the United States?
Ace had one on the back of his Gibson Heritage Cherry Sunburst LP when they sold out Budokan for 4 nights.
It's Epi's new tribute guitar, they're trying to be authentic here ...lol.
They're leaving the option up to you whether you want to apply it or not.
Goes on the backside.
Although I believe his real one not only had this sticker, but it also had a few small white star stickers spread out on the back too.

I had to do some Google-fu, since that confounded me as well (full description here (http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Epiphone/Ace-Frehley-Budokan-Les-Paul-Custom.aspx))
Les Paul and DiMarzio™ Pickups
As you would expect, Epiphone and Ace took great care to recreate the power of Ace's original Budokan Les Paul. Though Ace's original had only the bridge pickup connected, the Epiphone Ltd. Ace Frehley "Budokan" Les Paul Custom is all wired up and ready to rock with three DiMarzio™ pickups; a DiMarzio™ PAF style humbucker in the neck and middle positions and a DiMarzio™ "Super Distortion" humbucker in the bridge position to draw out the stage rattling tone of the mahogany body. We've also recreated the "Budokan" vintage controls featuring gold SpeedKnob™ controls for bridge pickup volume, middle pickup volume, neck pickup volume and a master tone control.

To be honest, I don't know how this affects the sound, won't know till I have it in my hands ...but I know I love the look, and the reviews have been outstanding.
With some even stating that is particular Epi is above normal Gibson LP quality.
I didn't care for the '97 - 08 run because they didn't have the pick guard.
The Gibsons did, but the Epi's didn't???
To me, an LP w/o a pick guard looks naked.
Exception would be my Pee-Wee and my Dillion, which didn't come with one.
I might see about adding a custom made one to the PW someday, but I would never do that to my Dillion.
Apparently I was typing when AL posted that, so ....ditto.

I just got Rocksmith this week and am pretty impressed by it.
I had a B.C. Rich Warlock in the closet, gathering dust. Because learning from a book was just not very productive.
My Warlock is the low end beginners model. But it is a great guitar. It's very comfortable to hold and use.
Rocksmith matched my head stock right out of the gate. Which was great.
My next guitar will likely end up being a B.C. Rich Warlock Bass.

Ok, I'm becoming obsessed with Gibsons. I'm starting to really appreciate their styling. I was looking, and I found more that I think you might like.
They are both Les Paul Studios, but they are different.
On the Les Paul Studio Swirl, I really like the Silver Swirl Burst. The headstock even has the swirl burst design, and the white Gibson & Les Paul logo just make it pop for me.

Only been playing for about 4 months now, so I don't want to spend too much on a guitar yet. This Jag is only $549 and is a shorter scale (24"). My hands are kinda small so I'm thinking this guitar may be more comfortable to play than the 25.5" scale Squier Strat I've got now. Plus my Strat only has 3 single coils...I want to have a guitar with humbuckers too.

Well the GAS is getting to me more and more. Long story short, I have a piece of jewelry that my Grandfather bought for me probably 25 years ago, but it's not something I'd ever wear. It's been sitting in an envelope for the better part of those 25 years because it's sentimental but the clasp is broken and I'm never going to wear it. I'm strongly considering selling it and turning it into a really nice guitar that will have sentimental value and also be something I use. The problem now is that when it comes down to it, I can't figure out what I really want.

Had a severe GAS attack last week. I had been reading on mylespaul.com and have been wanting a Les Paul for years. Could not justify the cost, nor do I have the $$ right now for a Gibson.
I'm a (recovering) brand snob, so couldn't really see having an Epi. Nothing wrong with most of the Epiphone Les Pauls, but I didn't think one would cut it beside my Gibson 335 and American Strat :)
Then I read up on the Epiphone Elitist series. Wow. They only made them for a few years, but apparently they were made to very high standards, and used top quality materials.
They rarely come up for sale used around here, so I thought I'd just "keep an eye out"
Spotted one on Kijiji last week, this week it's mine for $800.00

The problem now is that when it comes down to it, I can't figure out what I really want.
I know EXACTLY what you mean. I have my great grandfathers guns... I haven's shot a gun in 20 years and these two just sit in gun socks in my dad's gun safe. I keep thinking that a nice custom shop Gibson would be just as collectible and I might actually play it once in a while :) I don't know. But I know what you mean... Why keep something that you don't enjoy/have no use for? I have other things of my grandmother's that are much more sentimental to me and are worth FAR less (like nothing at all) that I would never consider getting rid of.
The most expensive guitar that I actually want right now is this one. About $799 from MF. I may get it this summer. I played one in store the other day and it just felt right. It doesn't hurt that I'm a huge Nirvana/Seether/Grunge/Post Grunge fan... This one I like because it has a slide kill switch, which gives you some cool options when playing (watch any Seether live video for examples)...

I already have a cheap BC Rich Rave II with a warlock-style body, figure something like this is the next logical step.
Actually just dropped the same pickups this has in my guitar, SD Dimebucker bridge and Dean Dimetime neck.

This thread makes me want a new guitar soooo bad. So much so that this morning I dialed up Long & McQuade's site and saw that it is "Gibson Month" or something like that. I was stoked. I called to find out when they were open until, and discovered they were closed for Good Friday. Should have known. They're one of the last holdouts on Sunday shopping too.
So...my banker's horror will be spared for a day. My problem is that a lot of the guitars there are hacked to $hit. It's amazing to me that they let anyone come in and thrash away on $4k Les Pauls, reeking of hemp.
I'm thinking I may see if they can order me an Epiphone Budokhan (sic?) Les Paul. Those look frickin sweet. And not too bad on price.

I was in Guitarworks on Wednesday, eyeing the $3000.00 Les Pauls.
The guy said "You can take them down and play if you want"
No way I'm going to risk dinging one, plus I'm wearing a jacket with zippers that could do some damage.
On a positive note, that's the first staff member that's said a word to me in the 3 times I've been there.

wtf? Seriously. WTF?
250,0000 and that's after a refinish, and repair of a broken neck.
I know '59s are worth a lot but...
Didn't Gary Moore sell his '59 Goldtop (given to him by Peter Green) for over a mil?
I saw a fake Chinese Les Paul on Kijiji, 300ish :)

Being an Ibanez fan (have a RGA121), love their neck profiles am looking at this one as going out cheap due to it being replaced by new premium model
http://www.great-bargain.com/ekmps/shops/rightclickshop/images/off-line-ibanez-jem505-steve-vai-signature-electric-guitar-black-236-p.jpg
Then again may go for the premium version, comes with Dimarzio pups so wouldn't need to swap out which is what I may need to do with the guitar above

Quite nice, from the ones I've tried. Better than a production Les Paul, but not necessarily as nice as what you'd get from the ESP custom shop (then again, ESP starts at $10K).
They're cheaper than the others because they're more of a semi-custom shop. They build mostly from standard parts. They'll do special options within limits, but you can't just send them a custom guitar shape or ask for a CS6 in a no-headstock configuration. If the standard options plus a few minor tweaks get you the guitar you want, they're a heck of a bargain.

All the Gibby's goodness with the Epi's price tag.
- 4 conductor '57 Classic / Classic Plus Humbuckers (yes the Gibson 57 Classics)
- Push / Pull tone pots for coil tapping (single coil without a single coil guitar)
- Mallory 150 caps
- Switchcraft 3-way
- Grover locking machine heads
- AAA flame maple veneer over hard maple cap
- Strap Locks
Now, just to find something to finger & strike the right notes at the right time for the right duration and I can make some music.

But as far as a wish list guitar ($5K, <cough>), how about this one:
http://www.bo3b.net/Klein-Guitar-with-Torzal-Twist-Neck.jpg
Is that neck twisted?
Yep, the neck itself is twisted. The idea is that when your hand is close to the nut, it should twist down, relieving tension in your wrist.
When you get high on the neck, it twists back to standard,to match your arm being closer to your body.
At the same time, the bridge is twisted up, so that your right hand has an advantage with a flatter picking area, also with less wrist twist.
Or so I've read. I've yet to actually play one, but am toying with the idea of making a one-off in CAD and building my own neck.
It actually doesn't change the nut or the bridge or the pickups. At any given slice across the strings, it's still perfectly flat.
These are called Torzal necks, and came from Jerome Little.
http://littleguitarworks.com/torzal-natural-twist/
This is not academic- the Bass player for the Gipsy Kings (Xavier Padilla) was disabled from RSI, and the Torzal Bass allows him to keep playing today.

Thanks RCole, this is one of the guitars that I just had to have. I wanted 4 specific guitars in particular (Tele, Strat, Les Paul and Explorer) for sure and now I guess I just have to upgrade from the crappy Squire Strat to a USA model. (not that all Squires are crappy but I think this one is)
Ok, 5 guitars... It would be nice to get a hollowbody Gretsh instead of only having solidbodies.
Ok, I don't think I'd be happy unless I had 6 guitars. A Line 6 James Tyler Variax would be amazing.

It is indeed, shipping and Import duty on stuff from the States is quite punitive these days.
Luckily I have various friends in the States who could order it and bring it to me whenever they're next coming over should I decide to order one.
Perhap SteelString will post up a review if and when he gets it. Owners rarely hate their new purchases though :D

Since yesterday I've done some basic research on Carvin and they do seem to be an under-rated manufacturer. Why is that, it's not like they're a startup?
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they don't have a line of Korean or Chinese made production guitars. Low-cost products generate market penetration, which builds the brand, etc.
Schecter's a good example. They used to be strictly a custom shop. Then they started a line of Korean-made models and now they're everywhere.

This weekend I checked out a Kurt Cobain replica Fender Jaguar. What a bizarre guitar. Among other things, a 24 scale length. That's right -- not 24.75. I popped it into a drop D and had trouble keeping the E string on the fretboard. LOL! I have never been one to see any beauty in a "replica" or "distressed" guitar. This was no different. In fact, I would be hard pressed to come up with an uglier looking axe. Despite all that, I almost bought it. Not sure why. And I am thinking about it constantly. It may stll be mine -- gouges and all. Wow -- is it ugly though. It did sound a little fierce, which was somewhat redeeming.

I have a 2006 Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 and pre-lawsuit Singlecut (2001) as well as a completely customized 2000 American Fender Strat. I lust for only one guitar now, but with over 5 grand in three guitars, it's going to be tough to convince myself to spend another $3650! http://www.chrisguitars.com/prs01-santana-ii-goldhardware.jpg
