“Over the past few months, we’ve heard your feedback and have been investigating the best ways to make improvements in our services’ availability. As a result, we’re transitioning the hosting of many of our online services from a third-party data center to a new facility, starting February 7 at 8 p.m. EST. During the transition, some Ubisoft services and online games will not be available – a full list of affected games and services can be found here (http://static2.cdn.ubi.com/transition/details/). We apologize for the inconvenience. This move ultimately will help us improve the maintenance of our infrastructure and deliver better uptime and greatly improved services for our customers. You can follow migration progress through our Ubisoft twitter account.”

As a PAYING customer (never pirated anything in my life), and a Settlers 7 player, I am EXTREMELY unhappy with this!! I didn't like this Always Online fiasco that Ubisoft brought into their games in the first place. Why not use a system like Steam to distribute your games where we can play offline? Now my enjoyment and playing time of Settlers 7 is going to be brought to an abrupt HALT! And has anyone else noticed that there is no timelimit given to how long these games will be offline!?! Ubisoft, you need to get your heads right and stop treating loyal, paying, customers as pirates! There has to be a better way to handle the security of your software without penalising PAYING customers!!!

PBK, thats kinda uncalled for. Give them the benefit of a doubt and lets first see if there is actual improvement once they do their migration. If its not, then you can bring out your torch and pitchfork and start a mob.
The important point you bring up however is the migration downtime. This should have been estimated and quite frankly shouldnt be that far off the mark either. Also more information as to how they would improve is something worth mentioning. Like "Our new service is covered by multiple automatic failovers and spans over a global network which improves accessibility even if some instances of the cluster is brought down for maintenance."

Now hold your horses. Ubisofts DRM is useless! The people that buy legit games from Ubisoft gets all the trouble and problems.
People who pirate and crack them games can just continue to play. How are you people thinking at Ubisoft, are you insane, do you like to torment regular honest paying customers?

Wow, a CM that doesn't know the difference between affected and effected. Who's doing the hiring over there? Here's a hint: http://www.diffen.com/difference/Affected_vs_Effected
No wonder why there's going to be downtime. I haven't bought any of their games due to this DRM. I hate to be a paying customer when a DoS comes to their activation servers or they eventually think "omg piracy... better stop makin' pc games... don't need these DRM servers neither" (you know, when customers get tired of getting treated like criminals.
Also: WTF, I can't use arrow keys to reposition the cursor on the forums?

We estimate everything will be back to normal by Wednesday/ Thursday evening and only a few titles will be effected. The reason things like this do not get a time scale is in case it over-runs.
We understand things which have an impact on you playing your games are annoying but this move is good news since this transition will enable us to improve the quality level of our Online Services.
LaFlo09, seeing as nothing has happened yet and will not until the 7th this cannot possibly be the reason for the problems you are having with Assassin's Creed Revelations Multiplayer and you should submit a ticket to technical support and/or post in detail in the Assassin's Creed forum what the problem is and we'll try to help you.

It simple:
Pay for game: Get disconnected, unable to play.
Dont pay for the game: play all the time, when you want, how you want.
Please, and you have heard this a billion times now, don´t punish your paying customers.
Like Gabe Newell said, piracy is a service problem, and your service is punishing me as a paying customer.
And it´s just not fair and you know it, whatever your policy is. And please distribute this information, I saw it on a gaming site might be a good idéa to put in in Uplay/Ubisoft game launcher so people know whats coming.
And how about the estimated downtime? 1 hour? 7days?
Other than that? I love your games, keep up the good work and i really enjoy plaing your quality games! Anno 2070 is awesome and so is *** Creed series! Love Heroes aswell :)

My Anno2070 is no longer available (connection to server lost), i thought it was not impacted ....
Can you please do something quickly, this kind of situation legitimates a class action for me.

Anno 2070 was on my wish list for some time now and just today after a heavy day at work troubleshooting SCCM2007 and other MS stuff, I thought by myself : you've earned yourself a break! Owh yes, first thing I always do in these sort cases is consulting the Usenet and there is was, Anno2007. Complete with crack. But, with getting older and feeling 'much' more responsible, realizing that the game industry needs paying customers to keep creating such awesome games, I bought it using my credit card. After downloading the game from Ubisoft I installed it without any problems. Great! No hassle with cracks, regkey's, firewall- and hostfile adjustments. I launched the game and "The connection to the server has been lost" appeared. Okay, this can happen. I installed Anno2070 on a Parallels VM on my Mac in a Windows domain with a policy driven firewall and a ISA2006 server in front of all connections. So, made some new rules with all TCP/UDP exceptions needed by Anno but no. Didn't work at all. Restarted the VM, tried to login into Anno2070 and I get an "A service is unavailable" message. The smile on my face after deciding to play some Anno was gone, even more when I Googled for these Ubisoft messages. This happens quite frequently I understand?
Today was a real breakpoint in my life with not giving in to the temptations of Usenet, This evening I also really needed a break. Anno2007 looks awesome but the whole DRM protection is a big fail if you ask me. Sorry for the long diary style of writing while I just could have said F**K, it isn working! Anyway, I'll be on my own way again for some time. Maybe, someday, we will meet again, Ubisoft.

Some of the early responses to the flame mail this board is recieving lend me to believe that the moderators are new hires. Since the advent of this simple minded DRM policy was put in place any game under this misguided business plan has had the same problems. Lost connection, lost saves, etc.... it's nothing new, the same answers or explanations you're giving us have been given, claimed, promised etc... over and over. Weve heard it all before. I gotta ask the question; moderators? is this your first time off the mayonaise farm?
Ubi comes up with some really great games but the DRM model is a huge fail. Can anyone really explain why we should purchase another Ubi game? I mean really?
It's childish to believe anything Ubi promises will actually be delivered. More believeable is lost sales from P O'd former customers. My bet is that Ubi finally started to feel it and got their heads out of their fifth point of contact and are trying to fix a huge mistake. The ego in charge can not afford to admit his mistakes so he's blaming some fictitious 3rd party.
My guess is that another hacker network brought down Ubi yet again.
And hey moderators....don't be offended, we've been around longer than you it seems. Maybe listening to us instead of the Ubi party propaganda will get you up to speed on the type of company you work for. At least we're honest....angry yes...but honest.

what a surprise Ubisoft is as horrendous as usual.
i don't play many games but heroes happens to be one of my favorites, however since ubisoft took over it all went down hill fast, hideous drm features and even inability to buy the game in real form.
i own every HOMM from 1st one including all expansions. i pre ordered homm5 collectors edition and expected to do the same with homm6 but ubisoft did not want my money as i was unable to buy physical game in US. i was very very mad so i put it on hold. but after seeing game on sale online i bit the bullet and bought it. So today i started playing it and guess what after couple hours it stopped working, then i found this..... as always idiotic usage of drm. why in the hell i would need to be online to play campaign????
so again ubisoft is letting us down. Ubisoft your slogan should be - "give us your money and then ***** off, we will make your experience as stupendous as possible, we could care less about or paying customers and again ****** off"
this might be a last straw for me i might not buy another ubisoft game ever, because i had horrible experience every time i did.
for some reason if i buy a game from other company i am able to play it instead of dealing with bullcrap like this, and this has been going on for years now....
shame on you

well I just lost my connection and the data from the two big battles that I did on that turn are gone. all that time fighting those battles was wasted. I've been playing heroes from when that first one came out. I had been looking forward to heroes VI since I first heard about it. But this is just to frustrating! I am never going to buy another game with DRM ever again and I will never recomend a game with it to my customers or friends, in fact I am going to let them know that your company will treat them like they are criminals and can't be trusted. DRM hasn't stopped the game from being pirated. I beleive that the honest people are more likely to copy it because of the way they feel that they are being treated by ubisoft. The more that I as writing this letter the madder I'm getting over this. AUGH!!! This has gotten me so mad that if I wasn't so honest I'd start copying your games.

Was wondering when the Assassin's Creed Recollection card store will be working again. Also, some other people and I have had the app crash (iOS5, ipad2) while buying/opening packs; is that due at all to server issues? Will there be a refund of credits/packs?
Last, looking forward to Revelations cards and the auction house.

Before dismissing this as b!tch!ng about the server being down, I'm not mad that server is down. I'm livid that I have to *care* that server is down. I paid full price for a (very good) SINGLE PLAYER GAME. I shouldn't have to give a flying **** rat's _ss whether your servers are up, down, transversally spinning or thrown into a volcano. As a working parent of two, I don't have the luxury of squandering the tiny scraps of free time I get sitting around waiting for someone else's permission to play a game.
This business model will be punished. I will never, EVER buy another game that requires a constant online nanny just to play anything other than a castrated version of the product.

Why do you make it so a noninternet game has to have internet access? Are you losing that much profit? Not putting the game on the shelf and making people put up with all of this crap will lose more money for you then botlegging will. What about people that don't always have access to the internet? I work in third world countrys and would have liked to play this game there. You have made that impossible for me. This is the first computor game I've bought or played in two years because of the internet fact. Finally a new game comes out that I'm into that couldn't possible need the internet, a fact I cheched out over the phone with your service people before I bought and downloaded the game. Other wise I wouldn't have spent the money. Not only did they lie to me I'm now at your mercy as to when I get to play the game? Not the best custumer service I've ever seen. You wont be getting anymore of my busness.

From what I've seen in the above posts, it's not just the games on your list that are having problems. Assassin's Creed 2 on Mac isn't working, even though it's not on the list, and it doesn't involve online play, I just can't get past the Ubisoft Game Launcher...it'd be nice if I didn't have to log in for a game that's not even online. Please consider revising...

Now correct me if I'm wrong on this, does Splinter Cell Conviction on PC really not affected?? I think it is too. It took a long time to check for update without any option to skip, then managed to launch the game, but I cannot continue with the game because it appears that the saved game is on the server!!
Seriously, I will NO longer buy anything made by Ubisoft.

I won't jump on the band wagon, but having shelled out for the retail version of a game a few days ago, only to find that now, when I have free time I am unable to play offline is pretty lame.
However, what I WILL complain about is that you aren't offering any sort of ETA for this server migration. I understand that unexpected delays will occur, but it also stands to reason that you being Ubisoft, one of the largest and most respected game developers out there, that you employ some **** fine, and dare I say it, competent network engineers who are probably in a NOC that resembles something out of Cheyenne Mountain. Is it unreasonable for any of these professional server squirrels to estimate a time frame for your anticipated downtime? Especially since every little detail has probably been planned and pre-positioned to make the migration proceed as smooth as possible. The lack of any time frame is unprofessional, and disrespectful toward your paying clientèle, a group that I see no need to be a part of.
I bought this game and came out from the specter of PC game piracy, but had I pirated the game I would be playing it right now, blissfully unaware of any server issues on your end. The irony here is dripping off my desk and making a smelly pool of despair all over the floor.
So with these misgivings on the table, what're we looking at gents? Tonight? Tomorrow? Refunds?

Yeah this is ridiculous. Just bought Anno 2070 why would I pay 50 dollars and download 5 gigs onto my hard drive to not be able to play even in offline mode? Ubisoft is a joke man, what kind of business model is that, sell a product that off the shelf does not work as advertised? Those guys should be ashamed, I understand if this was an MMO or something but it is an RTS! I should be able to play offline whenever the f I want to, or was that 50 bucks I shelled out a total waste of my money........guess so. Won't be seeing anymore of my hard earned money you crooks. Get a real job Ubi stop ripping off paying customers!

I can't get past login window. I am running fathers ark and early today I started a game and it gave me the original ark and i couldn't even load stuff onto it?
And can I ask, what is this junior member business I am 70 and by no means a junior. what really annoys me is I got into the game earlier today and it was playing fine. then my message came 'connection lost" so I got out of the game to reset connection and now I can't get back in. I am having enough trouble getting to know the game without being forcibly stopped from playing, Thanks Ubisoft

I really can't believe that yet again I can't play a solo player game because Ubisoft requires an online connection and their servers are down. I should have learnt the lesson after the trouble I had playing Settlers 7 with the servers constantly being uncontactable. Well, stupid me I later bought Anno 2070. A fantastic game, but the "Ubisoft services are unavailable" comment comes up way too often. Surprise, surprise Anno 2070 isn't even on the list of "unavailable" games on your forum post.
Like many others I don't have a lot of time to play games so when I am free I cannot hang around waiting for Ubisoft to deign to let me play a solo player game I purchased! I've had enough! I will never buy another Ubisoft game if I find out it requires a constant online connection to play. How many paying customers are you going to alienate before you finally get the message? Do you really think that the online connection method is really stopping those who pirate the game? They are the only ones getting to play it at present.

I'm a Settlers-fan since day 1. I only play campaigns and skirmish, no multiplayers, almost every day. I'm a 57 years old mam who just want to have a few hours fun without the competition-element. So why am I forced to play online at times the server isn't down?? ( and it's not only now, it happened often the last months)This is the first and the last game of this type I bought . At least I still can play my favourite: Settlers IV :-)

Oh that's just friggin great. I bought Settlers 7 2nd hand from Ebay last week - couldnt use it as the code had already been binded to an email address. After several support tickets later i decided i wasn't going to get anywhere with Ubisoft support as kept telling me it impossible to 'unbind' an account - yeah right! Decided to buy a brand new copy of it - gets it home and after installing / updating get ther server message like everyone else. THIS REALLY TAKES THE BISCUIT UBISOFT - YOUR DRM / ONLINE PLAY ONLY SUCKS! (Oh and so does your support staff).......... I loved playing settlers series until now :(

Your lesson learned should be to stop creating this type of DRM exactly because of server issue. Offline single player game should not require any server, your customer will be more pleased, you get less complaint, and can focus on creating better gameplay rather than policy.
My lesson learned is of course to stop buying anything from Ubisoft until it changes the DRM policy, sadly that means I won't be buying Anno series anytime soon. Any other publishers willing to take on Anno?

It's been about 24 hours that I cannot play anno 2070 because server offline, and offline mode just sucks, I need the ark working, and ingame bonus politics. Why couldn't we just get the ark and weekly politics saved at least at first connection, so then we could use them in offline mode? It's just annoying that we pay for entire days being unable to play. So next time, we think it twice before buying games just in case it happens like those other games.
Help us and you'll be helping yourselves, ubisoft. If not, there won't be "us" to help. :(

I can't even access my Heroes VI saved games. Why the #### do they have to take their servers offline. Why not leave the old ones running, get the new ones in the air and then switch? It's not that we don't pay enough for their games to at least expect some service.:mad:

First thing: Having to be connected online all the time is annoying. I suggest removing it on the singleplayer games. Unnecessary if you ask me.
Second: Why can't you guys at Ubi just listen to your customers? You have no idea how much profit you would receive if you did. (Hint: Change the DRM.) I'm sure you guys got a lot on your minds, but seriously, get some sense into your heads.
Third: This is to those whining about the maintenance. Chill. It's only for a couple days people. In my opinion it's not that bad. It could be ALOT worse, trust me.

All server work is expected to be completed by sometime on Thursday
We are aware that some games which should not be affected are - so if you are getting server errors, it's most likely due to the server maintenance..
However if you keep an eye on the official Ubisoft twitter - you will have more upto date info, since they are tweeting updates asap.

Hi
there is any lawyer reading this forum, or someone know one?
I have this interesting idea.
- Buying the game i bought the right to use Ubisoft's intellectual property.
- No way they can have the right to preventing me from playing offline, I payed for the right of doing so; nobody can prevent me for enjoying my legal rights. It is kind of breaking the contract we signed at the moment i bought the game. Even if they wrote it in the terms and condition i think it may be illegal; it is like if i sign a contract in wich i agree to be a slave. It is NOT legally valid, no matter what.
Anyway legal palying customers can sue the company at least to have a way to play anyway being RIGHTFULLY and LEGALLY entitled to do so?

- MY saved games are MY savedgames. I think i have the right to access them.
- if u put any clause that say u have the right to prevent me from playing my games and acces my savedgames i do not have words to describe it.

All this server changing business is no problem for me. Do you know why? I haven't bought a Ubisoft game in years. Anno 2070 looks great, as did From Dust and many of the Assassin's Creed games, but my gaming time is limited and there are a lot of other great games out there that I can play without fear of having my offline play disrupted by connection problems. So I'll just give my money to the people publishing those games instead.
So there you are. Having heard about this downtime issue I figured I might as well take a moment to throw my voice into the torrent of complaints you must be getting right about now. Maybe if we all make enough noise you'll abandon this self-destructive DRM and I can start giving you my pennies again.

The links in your signature are incomplete. There is no update on server issues on twitter or elsewheere. Are we supposed to all open tickets now?
It worked fine yesterday for hours, earlier than expected. And for once you even had almost all savegames correctly.
But what is going on again now? You can't keep having server downtimes like this. It's simply unacceptable. Especially being told 'invalid id' or 'check your internet connection' is a joke.

So, a precise date for the resumption ONLINE?

Now hold your horses. Ubisofts DRM is useless! The people that buy legit games from Ubisoft gets all the trouble and problems.
People who pirate and crack them games can just continue to play. How are you people thinking at Ubisoft, are you insane, do you like to torment regular honest paying customers?
My Assassin's Creed Revelations Multiplayer is NOT WORKING!! I have an Xbox 360 and "according" to the list of NOT AFFECTED GAMES it is on it. This is annoying :(((( I want to play online :(((((
As a PAYING customer (never pirated anything in my life), and a Settlers 7 player, I am EXTREMELY unhappy with this!!
I am the forum software that Ubisoft is running and I approve of these messages.

I just spent $50.00 on Anno 2070 and Im wishing I had found all this information first.
I keep getting a "Connection to server has been lost" message when I launch the game.
I understand there was a server migration on the 7th and I get that things can go wrong and things take time to fix but
this is now the 14th of Feb, is this still not fixed yet? It would be nice if there was at least a notification of the progress
being made to fix this so your customers have something to at least look forward to.
I also think you should re-purpose your tech support structure or maybe your web design team.
When a customer needs to take a "tutorial" just to get tech support help, well, you're doing it wrong.
Just sayin.

I'm appalled that the basic function of your games is so entwined with the online component that it is impossible to progress in the SINGLE PLAYER campaign in Heroes 6 unless I'm online. Why in the world would you not save the campaign progress on the user side?
You also fail to give any sort of estimated down time for these games. Will it be days, weeks ... years? Who knows. All I know is that I really regret giving your company the benefit of the doubt when I bought Heroes 6. Good game, but crippled by your "online always, even for single player" policy.
I'm a pretty busy guy, I'm honest, I paid your premium price for this game and it's only been headaches. Do you realize that as a PC game consumer, I NOW CHECK TO MAKE SURE A GAME IS NOT PUBLISHED BY UBISOFT BEFORE I BUY IT. Your reputation is that bad and is quite well deserved given my personal experience with your DRMs and your shoddy online service. I will vote with my dollar.

Suddenly I can't play Heroes 6 because I can't connect to the CONFLUX, worked earlier today. I can't play the current campaign since the saves games are on your side. And this I paid for?? Why pay for this game when you can't play it? Not to mention that after all this time elite griffons still can't make their special attack, and keyboard shortcuts won't work when I am being attacked. It worked in the demo or whatever it was I played before I paid for the game, all I know is that the game I paid for still doesn't work properly. Really makes me want to pay for the next game... right

What is HECK is this CRAP. I used to love the games of UBISOFT but now I am regretting continuing business with you. I have bought Settlers 7 just a few days ago PAID REAL MONEY, FOR A REAL GAME, AND GOT A REAL CRAP DEAL. I can not play because (A service is unavailable please try again later) BS. If you want to try and stop or slow down pirateing that is all fine and dandy, but at least allow people who bought the game, play the campain or single player maps or something. Not just OH YOU CAN'T PLAY BECAUSE WE ARE TO STUPID TO GET SERVICES TRANSFERRED, or what ever you all are doing over there. You need to think about this crap ahead of schedule, like incorperateing a launcher update before the transition that would have allowed people to play without internet connection for a month just in cause. You guys should be smart enough to figure that out. Now I have to be patient, and I do not do patient guess I will have to find another game from another company that I can play.
TienHoog
02-26-2012, 10:23 PM
I am also rather annoyed at the way things are going. There is no way of checking the status of the servers besides just trying if the game works. When you try clicking the link at the bottom of the message saying "ubisoft support" you just get the standard support site and not the site you need for the specific game you are trying to play. When you click through to there, there is no clue to the problem at hand and you need to contact support personally, even though this is a worldwide problem. It is beyond me why you need to play the game on your servers, even though everything is running on my own system. Whenever your servers are down (which has happened at least twice already in the month that we now "own" the game) I am unable to play any part of the game. This is a serious lack of service from Ubisoft. A company as big as this surely should be able to keep its servers online, should it not? Is it such a drag to at least inform (paying!) customers on how long the outage would be for? Right now I haven't got a clue and I find it hard to find anything on the matter at all.
In short: Ubisoft, you could easily do a whole lot better service wise, just by making an easy-to-find announcement on the main page of your service site stating what the server status is and how long it will be down for. Besides you could make your customers more satisfied by either improving your up-time and/or making a (small) part of the game(s) available offline as well. I sincerely hope this will improve soon.

sad thing is, if you download the pirat version you can play OFFLINE. way to go ubisoft.
if you wanna beat piracy, dont punish paying customers.
everyone else is selling loads of games that can be played offline and so did ubisoft. this is pissing so many people of that i dont think that anyone who bought settlers 7 or the other "online" games will ever buy a ubisoft game ever again.

Ubi,
This is incompetence on every level. I sincerely hope your good developers move to a real publisher soon. I agree with all the upset players on here, and will start by saying I'm a top notch computer programmer. Just the very fact I can't even see an announcement that the servers are always down is absurd. I guess I have to mention how little you pay your employees because clearly they know literally nothing about hosting such a critical service to your business. It's called 24/7 uptime, and is really easy to achieve with load balancing. There is NO NEED to have any down time when doing a data migration. Please fire someone. If you want to hire me I could 100% guarantee constant uptime, but you couldn't afford me.
That said, I vote with my wallet. I will never purchase an Ubisoft game again. And what's more I'm so annoyed at this moment that I'm going on a $5000 computer game shopping spree just as a thank you to developers and publishers that don't hate their customers. Please note that I completely understand you want to protect your games from pirating. I greatly disagree with the chosen DRM however, but if that's what you choose to go with IMPLEMENT IT CORRECTLY. And pretend you know what "customer relations" means, so at *LEAST* we know you're aware your servers are down and are supposedly working on it. That would go such a long way and I probably wouldn't be writing this.
Sincerely,
an ex-customer
P.S. Your UPLAY service has very little features and requires remarkably few hardware resources. Compared to [The biggest online service I won't name by the best developer out there] it's child's play. Yet they have near constant uptime and great communication. Take a lesson from their huge success. If you need a hint, they have the most successful RTS and MMORPG period.

You know guys... I don't even think that our anger here even reaches the guys responsible for this. Tho only ones who can talk to us are the forum moderators, who don't know much more about server downtimes then we do. But it is their job to keep things under control on the forums. Uplay down yet again? I thought that the recent server migration/upgrade was supposed to reduce the amount of downtime. So everyone is complaining that the server is down and UPlay wont launch so they cant play single player games.
I just bought Anno 2070 recently and the whole first day I had it I couldnt get it to go past the auto-patcher. That is where UPlay is supposed to launch and start the game, but no luck. Is that because the server is down? The next day it worked fine and I played for a few hours. Now I cant get past the auto-patcher again. I dont know if its my computer thats messed up or the server because I cant find a server status anywhere.
