View Full Version : I'm a die hard PC gamer and Third Person is just fine with me!

Any other PC gamer here fine with Third Person? I mean if you want a hardcore simulation then go play ARMA 2, but even THAT gives you the choice to play in third person! And don't get me wrong, I like realism as much as anyone else, but I see GR FS as being more about controlling your fireteam than it is about "simulating" the experience of a single soldier. It's more stragety game than it is shooter, and that's fine with me too. I'd rather have the same game as the console players are getting with improved PC features than a completely new game being built from the ground up that would take 2 more years to develope.

I like 3rd person games, Mass Effect for example is fantastic. Ghost Recon has never been a 3rd person game [on PC] nor do I want it to be. It's not that it can't be a good game, or even great, in the 3rd person, its simply not what Ghost Recon is to its fans. This isn't about "realism", its about what kind of gaming experience I what from a Ghost Recon game. The view point changes the way it plays and feels. It changes multi-player play in very significant ways, for example your field of view. Ghost Recon is the game franchise I play to get my first person gaming fill. And I don't want that to change.
Having said that, I believe you are going to get your wish. We'll likely be getting a port, probably without any kind of upgrades.

I think the third person view gives it a "cinematic" feel rather than a "sim" feel. You're not really the individual soldier, you're a movie director controlling the "action" of your characters. OR you can also think of it as you being a commander seeing and controlling the actions of your elite spec ops team. I think it rather improves what GR is, which is strategically being able to control a fireteam of spec ops to accomplish objectives. Remember, in GR1 you could "ghost" into any of your team mates for the sole purpose of making it easier to control them. The third person feature is just a new way of controlling your team leader and his team mates.

I love the Third person view and i totally agree with you I hope the PC version is the same as the console one and they have the same developing cycle. those gameplay videos are so amazing. and I just want to thank the ubisoft developing and publisher teams :)

One more thing regarding the "Original" Ghost Recon, I believe you could let your teams be completely controlled by A.I.s and just watch the whole mission take place from third person view. So this third person feature really isnt all that new for GR.

No, that was Rainbow Six that you could do that. GR had no planning phase before the mission. All planning had to take place during the mission.

I have no issue with 3rd person. and I especially like 3rd person games with detail. I like both FPS and TRS equally. each have their styles. but to me GRFS looks amazing. the movement, gameplay and detail all look great!
I just am more worried of game modes rather than what perspective it is.....

I didnt say anything about a "planning phase" before the mission. I'm saying you were able to take control of ANY one of your ghosts at ANY time during the mission or just let the A.I. take over all of them and just watch the whole thing from the third person view of one of your ghosts. Trust me, I still have the game installed on my comp.

I stand corrected. In Rainbow Six you could make a plan in the planning phase and choose AI mode before the mission started which is viewable with third person. I thought you may have been confused with that. I didn't know GR was capable of an AI mode. It's been too long, lol.

Np, the control was called "toggle spectator mode" or something. You even had two different third person views.

GR FS more about controlling your fireteam.
Unfortunately there are no command orders or micro management this time, it is all A.I controlled except for the mark and execute which looks to be about the only command you have over your team members in sp,

I personally love the thing I can see my operative move, shoot and act.
Also what point it really would be to have cool customizations on the character if you cant see them from 3rd?

I think the 3rd person approach will offer a breath of fresh air into the series (Atleist on PC). Granted this is basically a console port, I am hoping they give us some sort of edge over the console version.

I didn't mind the third person view when playing online so far. It makes a change from all the other FPS out there, and I've played most of them.

I also don't mind 3rd person as long as it's done well. Realistic movement and lots of detail on the soldiers kit/weapons etc. I like what I'm seeing in the trailers released so far. As for the PC version, guess it won't release until 1-3 months after the console version if previous Ubisoft games are anything to go by. Although saying that I seem to remember the PC version of AC: Revelations coming out at the same time as the console games. Unless we're only discussing GRO here?
Hi Hex by the way ;)

Hello mate.
I see no reason why it wouldn't work as well in GR:FS.
It also adds the advantage of seeing around the corner without actually poking your head out of cover though which some may find a tad unrealistic.

Holy crap, are they mentally challenged over there at UBI? Who plays 3rd person shooters except some misguided console punks.
Its insane. GR has allways been the hard-core tactical shooter franchise. 3rd person is like the kidergarden of action gaming styles. It makes no sense.

Third person it is then ha ha, actually i like ArmA 2 in third person perspective, although some animations in arma are a tad weird & wacky :).

As a long time Ghost Recon / Rainbow Six player, I too was disappointed when I first realize it was going to be 3rd person.
HOWEVER, I have been playing Ghost Recon Online, a game developed by a different studio but using the same game engine as Future Soldier (and also in 3rd person). I can honestly say I am having TONS of fun. I felt as though 3rd person would take the tactical feel out of it, but it is the most tactical team-based shooter I have played in a very long time. The UBISoft Singapore team did an excellent job, and if the Future Soldier is anything like GRO, then I will love it.
That said, I do realize that for many people, the Ghost Recon series is effectively over, and I completely understand why they feel that way. I feel the same way regarding the Rainbow Six series--I haven't truly enjoyed a Rainbow Six game since Raven Shield.
As far why they moved to 3rd person, it is probably a strategy to distinguish from the other shooters on the market (such Call of Duty), and I think this strategy will serve them well.
For those who are skeptical, Ghost Recon Online is a free to play online shooter that is essentially Future Soldier with a different twist on it. It is currently in closed beta, but it is due to be released this year, so it may be worth trying that game out before purchasing Future Soldier.

The series isnt over, if u read the game informer interviews you will see they are just "boosting" the franchise and taking it foward, weather that works or not is unknown, i just hope there are dedicated servers for pc .
I think your dead right bout 3rd person being an up on all the cod games!

Agree!! I love my FPS but playing in 3rd doesn't bother me. I want to see my costomized character!
