This Censor is Stupid

I don't mind a censor, but not one that's stupid. The current implementation is really impacting the functionality of the site. Look at any post that contains a quotation. Your own image is rendered a red X because the path uses something that's been censored.

Additionally, why are some words that aren't profane being censored.

Does B U T T really offend anyone here? Does the saltier version even do so? Sure, there are undoubtedly certain words that make sense to censor... but there are only a few of those. The blanket coverage aspect is quite silly, particularly since you folks at Ubisoft have chosen not to censor lyrics in the game we're talking about... which means we can't use the language used in your game to talk about your game? Come on now.

Let the forum fuction, remove the censor as it is until you can figure out how to properly configure it to remove F, S, MF, etc.

It really needs some tweaking, that is for sure. It is killing links to things, over embedded words, like in a-s-s-u-me and b-u-t-t-e-r-s-c-o-t-c-h.

Yes, it's dumb. People are talking about which b-u-t-t-o-n to push in the game, and it's all starred out...I spend a lot of time in forums, haven't come across b-u-t-t being censored before...yikes.

I almost started this thread this morning, but I sent a PM to one of the mods and got a reply that they are working on it.

I really had to LOL when I noticed yesterday that Mean ***** was finally allowed and assumption and pass were censored (which seems to be fixed now).

You'd think a forum swear filter would include a list of exceptions out of the box (ie. censor "a s s" but not "a s s u m e").

I find it hilarious that you can't even write John Lee Hoo ker's name without a space, because it'll censor his whole last name. And when did f a r t become a bad word?

I was thinking about this censorship filter when I posted the words old **** in another thread. Come on!!!! Why censor a ****?!!!? Maybe I should have said "old timer" instead of old ****.

OK, maybe I can understand how a **** can be offensive, but only in person!

To censor such silly things is lame, especially for a forum based on rock n roll. Rock and Roll was formed around a rebellious, sticking it to "the man" attitiude. When you go censoring lame little words and being all politically correct. It makes you appear to be "the man" (but not in a good way).

I have seen some words get selected out of the censor... Bass, for one, was censored, now it's not... If you find a word that is incorrectly censored, just post it in this thread, and hopefully a moderator/admin will take note and eventually sequester them out of the censor.

btw, when you censor stuff that shouldn't be, all you do is draw focus to the words you're trying to censor... Reading @@@bersome just made me focus on the first 3 letters, which I never otherwise would even think about!

Yeah, really. I noticed that thread and that John Lee ****** was censored but not Peter Frampton. I guess the anatomical slang connotation of the latter's first name wasn't anticipated but the occupational slang connotation of the former's surname was.

That explains why it would not let me post ****on while talking about the Facebook site.. I should have just said link or something but common. had to just delete it so no one thought I was cussing.
