As someone on the right side of the aisle, I'd hope not. He's a clown with a TV show.

edit: I didn't watch. I loathe the man's TV persona. I don't think I'd care for him on a personal level either.

As someone in the center.. be afraid.. be very afraid.. There are people who hinge on this man's every word.

For many in this country you can take a pile of $hit, wrap it in a flag, and it will no longer be $hit.. and you will be un American for saying that it stinks.. He had something on the other night about Nazis in America in the 30s.. well any person even slightly curious about American history would know this.. this is nothing new.. They even tried to run a slate for the presidency.. as did the klan... but now , because Glenn Beck says it... it is secret info that the liberal socialists now in power don't want you to know.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Fox News has some redeeming value.. but because they promote this fool .. for ratings and $$$ just about any good that does come off the network.. is rendered inert .. IMO.

I keep harping on this book... but if you really want to geta concise cogent picture of just where we are as a nation as far as our political process goes.. read this book:

Just How Stupid Are We (http://www.amazon.com/Just-How-Stupid-Are-We/dp/B00263J6HM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1268411689&sr=1-1)

A bit of creative editing there I think, still, GB can certainly get people to stand up and pay attention.

I don't get Fox News where I live but I do watch it when I get the chance, along with the BBC, CNN, CCTV, NHK, Al-Jazeera (a bit harder to come by), as well as my local and national news networks. It's not a bad thing to listen to different viewpoints and each network has something something to contribute.

Oh, I also catch the Daily Show http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif.

I stumbled across this guy whilst on holiday in Los Angeles ( http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif ) last year. I was stunned, appalled and fascinated all at the same time. So much so that I kept watching him whenever he was on. Very funny and creepy, both at the same time.

I don't know who would watch him and agree with his sentiments but I don't think I'd be comfortable in their company.

I wonder if Glenn Beck is using Biff Tannen as a role model, because they seem to have the same personality. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Both of them look similar too. Maybe they are the same guy:

You're right, GTA. I thought that about .5 seconds after I posted, and should have edited accordingly.

There's a saying I remember that goes something like this. "There are many voices in the world, and none of them are without signification."

With so may opinions, facts, faux facts, and outright manipulations of people through scare tactics many base thier beliefs upon fears. These charlatons of the airwaves do nothing but incite fear and cause confusion to the real issues. Why cry NAZI or SOCIALIST at every point when the issue is more important than silly name calling, and rational disscussione could solve more.

Both sides of the commentary aisle are guilty of it.

As an aside? WTF were the originators of the tea party movement thinking by bringing tea bags for symbols of political opinion? Couldn't they see the obvious correlation?

Its more "why don't the people of this country rise up and take their country back".

Republican or Democrat if you think your side is correct, you need to stand back and realize just how low both of these political parties have gone.

When the next election comes around just remember that no matter who wins the election we all lose.

It is easier to hate. The brain takes the path of least resistance. To add Americans are under more pressure than usual these days and hating is one way of releasing stress.

Just my guess.

But just yesterday I was wondering what the ratio to normal republicans is to tea-baggers. Does any one have any idea? It looks bad but I think it might just be that one group is obnoxiously loud.

Isn't that the first rule of electrical current. Electricity follows the path of least resistance? Hmmmmmmm. Brain waves, electrical current, least resistance? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I personally think there are more rational people of all parties. For every Beck, there's an Olberman. They get the limelight because they are loud and obnoxious. They are also talented, which can be rolled over into money for the networks.

Polarization has caused many to stop looking for the rational voice. Fear has caused many to hearken to the voice that blames and obfuscates.

It's the climate that cultivates fear that has caused many a problem. Whether it be mushroom clouds in the desert, or the economy collapsing unless we do something RIGHT NOW without weighing the long term risk, it is that rationalization based upon fear that has caused untold difficulties.

I didn't even think there was much innaccuracy about it. I have always thought that Springsteen was fairly anti-American, so I'll agree with him on that one.

Plus it's well known that the Beatles, especially Lennon, were very far to the left. While I don't watch or listen to Beck much, I find it hard fathom that anything or anyone you lefties disagree with is "hateful", while at the same time you can deride and totally slam the people you say are hateful. Which is hateful in of itself. You are hateful of the people you say are hateful and therefor hypocritical to the point of being laughable. You can say bad things about us but how dare we put down the Beatles or Springsteen. Pulllease!! Gimme a break!!! Now I'll be prepared for some lib coming in here and saying how they don't really hate Beck, they actually love him but just feel sorry for him. What a sad joke.......

I have always thought that the liberal lefties hating who they say hate is one of the biggest paradoxes in modern times. That's also one of the reasons why the left has few followers on radio and TV. You may 'hate' Glen Beck but he has far more viewers than Olberman, Maddow, Chris Matthews or any of the other whackos on leftist television. More than all of them put together. Get over it and deal with the fact that liberalism is in its death throes in the US! With the exception of this forum apparently.
I'm one of the few conservative stalwarts here. Though in many other forums I find myself to be with the majority, politically.

This isn't a US forum Mortoma, it's an international one.

Since you are apparently unable to distinguish between not being 'conservative' and being 'anti-American', I don't think there is much point in me trying to argue with you.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

Arise, ye workers from your slumber,
Arise, ye prisoners of want.
For reason in revolt now thunders,
and at last ends the age of cant!
Away with all your superstitions,
Servile masses, arise, arise!
We'll change henceforth the old tradition,
And spurn the dust to win the prize!

So comrades, come rally,
And the last fight let us face.
The Internationale,
Unites the human race.
So comrades, come rally,
And the last fight let us face.
The Internationale,
Unites the human race.

Stand up, all victims of oppression,
For the tyrants fear your might!
Don't cling so hard to your possessions,
For you have nothing if you have no rights!
Let racist ignorance be ended,
For respect makes the empires fall!
Freedom is merely privilege extended,
Unless enjoyed by one and all.

So come brothers and sisters,
For the struggle carries on.
The Internationale,
Unites the world in song.
So comrades, come rally,
For this is the time and place!
The international ideal,
Unites the human race.

Arise, you prisoners of starvation!
Arise, you wretched of the earth!
For justice thunders condemnation:
A better world's in birth!
No more tradition's chains shall bind us,
Arise you slaves, no more in thrall!
The earth shall rise on new foundations:
We have been nought, we shall be all!

'Tis the final conflict,
Let each stand in his place.
The international soviet
Shall be the human race
'Tis the final conflict,
Let each stand in his place.
The international working class
Shall be the human race

Second stanza

No more deluded by reaction,
On tyrants only we'll make war!
The soldiers too will take strike action,
They'll break ranks and fight no more!
And if those cannibals keep trying,
To sacrifice us to their pride,
They soon shall hear the bullets flying,
We'll shoot the generals on our own side.

So comrades, come rally,
And the last fight let us face.
The Internationale,
Unites the human race.
So comrades, come rally,
And the last fight let us face.
The Internationale,
Unites the human race.

Let no one build walls to divide us,
Walls of hatred nor walls of stone.
Come greet the dawn and stand beside us,
We'll live together or we'll die alone.
In our world poisoned by exploitation,
Those who have taken, now they must give!
And end the vanity of nations,
We've but one Earth on which to live.

So come brothers and sisters,
For the struggle carries on.
The Internationale,
Unites the world in song.
So comrades, come rally,
For this is the time and place!
The international ideal,
Unites the human race.

We want no condescending saviors
To rule us from their judgment hall,
We workers ask not for their favors
Let us consult for all:
To make the thief disgorge his booty
To free the spirit from its cell,
We must ourselves decide our duty,
We must decide, and do it well.

'Tis the final conflict,
Let each stand in his place.
The international soviet
Shall be the human race
'Tis the final conflict,
Let each stand in his place.
The international working class
Shall be the human race

Third stanza

No saviour from on high delivers,
No faith have we in prince or peer.
Our own right hand the chains must shiver,
Chains of hatred, greed and fear.
E'er the thieves will out with their booty,
And to all give a happier lot.
Each at his forge must do their duty,
And we'll strike the iron while it's hot.

So comrades, come rally,
And the last fight let us face.
The Internationale,
Unites the human race.
So comrades, come rally,
And the last fight let us face.
The Internationale,
Unites the human race.

Billy Bragg's version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk69e1Vcmvg)

Interesting recent article and comments about tea parties:-

http://www.guardian.co.uk/comm...ovement-barack-obama (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2010/mar/15/tea-party-movement-barack-obama)

"Good article. I tend to see these 'tea partiers' also as an unhealthy mix of the appallingly ignorant (keep govt out of medicare), the paranoid tinfoil-hat conspiracists (obama is a secret moslem scheming to steal our guns and freedoms) and aging whites threatened by change and pining for some idealized past when blacks, women, gays, and everyone but themselves knew their place: the 50's. Then there's the barely suppressed racism -- tell me all the slurs of moslem, socialist, communist, fascist, nazi, etc aren't grudging substitutes for the word they really want to use. Otherwise where was all this patriotic, libertarian, fiscally responsible outrage when Bush was trashing the constitution, wasting the surplus, exploding the deficit, massively expanding government, spying on the public, unilaterally seizing unlimited executive power, permitting Wall Street to run amok and allowing corporate consolidation of the increasingly supine media? This is an entirely astroturf phenomenon created out of the easily swayed undereducated, bigots and the terminally deluded by corporate conservatives operating through unconscionable *******s like Limbaugh, Roger Ailes and Glenn Beck. They know the demographic tide has turned against them, and this is their hysterical terrified response. It may work for an election cycle or two, but the tolerance, diversity, and inclusiveness of today's young people will eventually sweep this last stand of the cultural neanderthals away."
