Hey all,

I just recently got an Xbox and Xbox Live!
I have not played ANY online games before. Although I have been gaming since Atari 2600, Atari 8-Bit computers, then the Atari STs (Dungeon Master, woo hoo!).

I have Midtown Madness, Mechassault and recently bought Ghost Recon:IT for $29.99!

I just have some questions about online play and strategies in FPS type games.....From reading some of the comments that people make concerning maps, they say stuff like, "The main thing about this map is to gain control of the bridge early" or "This map is a struggle for control over the central building".....etc.....

I was just wondering why? I am not an army guy and know nothing about military tactics. I have never played a capture-the-flag game...never played a multiplayer deathmatch....never a siege, nothing......So can someone please explain the basic strategies behind the maps and gametypes? Does it have something to do with where you respawn when killed? Do you try to gradually inch your team closer and closer to the other teams spawn point or something?

I think Ghost Recon is probably the best game I have ever played, but I am having problems figuring out the strategies since I have little experience with any type of multiplayer FPS.

I just run a round and shoot other guys, but dont really have a game plan in mind.

Any hints/tips for the various gametypes and map tactics?

The easiest map for me to get the point across would be Small River on regular GR. Many people feel that controlling the hill (only one true hill on the map) is the key. I agree with this 90% of the time with the other 10% coming when the seige point is in an odd place. As far as WHY you want to take the hill, it should be rather obvious. The reason is due to the advantage of having the higher ground. From the hill you can look down over 70% of the map. People can hide under ridges across the river and crawl around but if they are standing you can usually get a shot on them. If you are on lower ground you can get a shot on the hill but you are open to other sides and you can really only shoot one general direction at a time without being totally exposed.

Many times certain buildings are key places because you can get in a position where you are not exposed to enemy fire except for right where you are looking.

In the end GR and GR:IT all comes down to sweet spots. Once you find one then you will know it because it will be a spot that catches the enemy totally off guard and has you in a spot that is difficult to see or get a shot on.
