Hey alles

I am still having problems with crashes. Its every time now. I have a P4, 3.0 chip; 1Gig DDR Ram, new system, XP Media Center. I have now resulted to saving the game every few min's.

Is anyone else having this problem?

By the way, love this game. I have been taking tons of screen shots. Just cant believe the awesome weather, sunsets, sound effects, wave effects, etc, etc.... Keep up the good work.

Lionheart.

Hey Wulfmann,

I have the ATI Radeon 300 with a 6.X driver and Direct X 9.0. I just upgraded to 9.0c to see if it will have an effect. There isnt a newer driver available for the VC.

I can run FS2004 flawlessly with max settings, so I know my computer can handle heavy graphics, (FS2004 is a ram hungry mega program).

Well, I was back on my 'saved' patrol, sank a Merchant, evaded a destroyer, 'saved', spotted a Merchant, got two fish in it, then had to sink it with cannons, made change from battle stations to standard surface running, and lost the game again! arrghh... Thats three ships now I lost on my carreer from 'shut downs'.

Oh well. Maybe the new update will have a fix
on this. (Yep, have the latest update for SH3).

Using the default crew configuration buttons is a known source of crashes. It seems like it is a game bug, at least on some systems.

Does your game crash even if you do not use those buttons?

I personally find those buttons to be of limited use.

Actually, I have been experiencing a similar problem...
The buttons do cause crashes often, but recently I have been strugling with crashes insanely frequent and annoying..
However, my SH dir is now clogged with mods through the roof - I bet that's what causes the crashes more often. Especially in single missions - the World 2.0 ones (have no idea if world 2.0 is compatible with 1.3, but still...;-).
Hope its the mods, really.. can't wait till 1.4 arrives -especially that I just switched to Win XP x64 and cannot play anymore due to older version of StarForce in SH3 1.3 ;(

System specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 939pin
2x512 GeIL Ultra-X
AIW Radeon 9800Pro
plugged to MSI Neo2 Platinum

The only mod I have done to mine is the music for the Gramaphone, lol. The old German music at the download site....

I do believe though that it did happen both in Map mode as well as Crew management screen. I have been saving even more lately and this is helping.

There should be a cool and quick 'Auto-Save' on this game, instead of the 'escape/save/type name here/click save/click yes/click return'.

Just an idea. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

FS2004 is not a big VC drain like CFS3. The one plane and all.
Still, the X300 would not cause a CTD even though it is not a strong card to run SH3. I suggest you not get the updated model textures which can be a drain with 20 ships in a convoy. (of course it is very easy to remove those if you give them a go and textures don't cause CTD!!)
I have been trying to isolate the CTD by reinstalling and trying different mods. As some have said there can be incompatible mods.
In CFS3 when a plane spawns that does not have a correct component the game will CTD. I am wondering if there is not a similar bug. Say a ship that calls for a certain cargo that has not been correctly identified spawns, but does not have a trigger to activate a sighting report. Ships spawn all the time and CTD seems to happen with no consistent actions of us playing. My experience dealing with CFS3 doing the CTD leads me to consider this. It is random and sudden without any change occurring by player.
I also agree there is also a bug with the crew management as I would get CTD when I selected cruise mode after damage control was done. I now manually replace the crew. That is totally different than you sailing along and click good-bye, all sudden like. Enough to get your bloomers all in a knot!!!

I wonder if its around a long hi-graphics moment, such as just after a battle, then going to high speed frames to get to the next destination.

For instance, moderate graphics build ups such as just after sinking a ship, (added details of other ship(s) graphics and animations, or coming home along coast, (graphics of coast lines with mesh in 'world' such as trees, etc). This was usually after I encountered these that my computer would CTD.

If the program 'collected' the data via Ram and didnt do little memory dumps now and then 'sooner', such as based on 'time' instead of 'quantity of Ram', then I can see CTD's occuring much more. It would make sense. Maybe an alternative trigger to 'dump Ram' for the game engine when Ram is dangerously high.

I did notice that there is a 'stutter' right before a CTD. Now, when my game 'stutters', I emmediately 'Save' the game, (again, there should be a way to do a 'quick save' shortcut).

I had a great game last night with frequent saves.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I actually felt guilty sinking all of those poor Merchants....

While nothing can be discounted that does not jive with my experiences. I have had most CTD with no activity at all. Like south of Norway on the way out. I am sure it is a problem with a bug that shows up spawning. But, that might be but one reason and there may be more than one and CTD may differ with each install. When I built my RND files it would CTD at start of mission. Omce a campaign loaded, it was OK. Now I get random CTD and that gives little confidence
One thing I believe at this point. If you start a career and it works, don't add mods (Except for textures) in between patrols. Keep playing and mod in between camapigns.
