Here we go again...
I'm lost. I tried the FC2ServerLauncher.exe, but I had no luck getting it to run in online mode. Is anyone using this to host servers?
I've searched these threads and google, but the info is confusing and hasn't helped: DMZ, no DMZ, 1.0 only as patched is broken, run multiple instances, try over and over, some mobos don't work, and so on.
Is the patched version broken? I have not tried going back to 1.0.
I can run the game, so maybe ports are working. I tried forwarding ports, but no luck.
I see the pbsv.dll, and used pbsetup. Do I need any special PB stuff?
One thing I notice in the server launcher app, the server ip is my PC's private ip. How do I change this to my actual online ip, or does it matter?

This is your main problem. You need to know/learn how to manage your router. You can either set it to assign the WAN IP to that PC or you can set up complex routing to simulate it. Problem is that you will have problems playing on another PC. The only fullproof solution is to get a WAN IP for all PCs on your network. You may have to change ISP for that.

Thanks. I just saw the bump on the server thread too, so I'll try that stuff:

Funny, that thread did not show in the searches.
Anyway good help. Thanks.

Doesn't matter. Been running two servers for 6 months or whatever, and the dedi app always shows the local "private" ip rather than the online ip. It's just the way it is.

I'm going to continue this thread, being as I am having trouble starting the dedicated server. I religiously followed the advise in the post above. I have tried my router in various configurations including DMZ. I have tried temporarily turning off any and all firewalls to my PC (just to test), but no luck.
The problem does not seem to be even getting that far, as the server does not look like it is trying to start. The console just stays blank.
I have tried multiple instances and 20 and more start-stop-start with no luck, the console just stays blank.
Should the server be trying to contact the UBI server, and do my online login? Seems odd this would not be the case, but then maybe that is client side only stuff.
Heck, I don't know, the dedicated server seems dead in the water, and all I can do is host matches from inside the game.
I'm not sure what I am missing.

rcole, there's a million threads on this dead-in-the-water textless console problem. All that router crap doesn't mean a thing if the dedi won't start.
And NO ONE knows why the dedi starts for some people and does not for others. It seems to be an unpredictable combo of your PC build and your software.
I always tell people, If you want to make sure your dedi will even start, you've gotta copy exactly the hardware build and software build of someone who has a working dedi.
But yeah you are wasting your time messing with all that router and port crap if your dedi won't roll text when you press Start.

I have tried on two different boxes: XP Pro and Vista HP. They are both quad core Intel CPU systems. Build 'em myself. The vista is on an MSI P7N MB, and the xp is on a Gigabyte GA-EP45. Both are 4GB, and should be well capable systems.
I am using Cox cable broadband access (maybe they are blocking something).
Blocked or not, shouldn't the server at least try to start, then spit out some errors if it can't connect?
I holler at ya on xfire when I get a chance.

kmcrobb,
Thanks for the post. I am thinking this is the heart of the issue, the hardware and software combo. I was thinking just that, if the dedi won't even try to start, worry about the rest later.
Oh, yeah, my buddy has a Dell 630 running XP Pro SP3 and has the same problem.
Another edit: We are both running McAfee on all our boxes, so maybe, but we have tried turning it off.

I can CONFIRM what kmcrobb is saying...
My old server:
Intel 805D o/c'd to 3.32GHz
Asus P5WD2-Premium Mainboard
2GB RAM
XP x64
SERVER APPLICATION STARTED FINE EVERYTIME I CLICKED START THE SERVER. ZERO ISSUES!
My new server:
Intel C2D E8500
Asus P5Q
4GB RAM
XPx64
SERVER APPLICATION RANDOMELY TAKES ANYWHERE BETWEEN 3 and 50 TRIES OF STARTING IT BEFORE IT WILL FINALLY SCROLL TEXT (IE. START) IN THE CONSOLE.
Another winner from our friends at NOOBI-soft!

My P4 on an Asus works fine. My dual-core Pentium 2160 works fine on a Foxconn. My Q6600 on a Gigabyte does not start. I know others who have Gigabyte-based systems that DO start. All these are XP Pro setups using the same D-Link router.
