Hi,

I've see lots of nose arts and I really like them! I was wondering how I could make a nose art too, I use the programm paint to make some texts on the Aircraft like my online nickname with IL-2 : ***** Pig, and put an image with it.

But I got some problems with that, first I want to put on a image on the aircraft, but the background of the image is white and I can't remove it, does someone know how I can remove that background, so I only have a body of a woman like you see on WWII planes?

The second problem is I can only save the paint as a 24-bits.bmp file, other .bmp's will effect the colors but IL-2 can't read the 24-bits.bmp , how can I save the file so IL-2 can read the file and I can use that paint for my aircraft and how do I save the file without changing the colors?

I'll you guys have some good advice!

I needed to get Photoshop Elements before I could even come close to replicating the right colors. I still don't have it 100% down, and skinning ain't easy! You need to change hoe the program sees the format of the skin, and then do your thing, and save as something else http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif i figured it out last week, I'll figure it out again! Even though I'm familiar with editting, I'm still having a hard time

I used to used Paint for lots of things, cutting and pasting was good for lots of things I wanted to do

if you figure it out, let me know!

Hey Horney Pig, my advice to you is download a programme called 'The Gimp' its freeware and an excellent ptrogramme for painting whatever you like, also more help would be at hand if you were using a program which many others use, plus with Gimp you can use Photoshop filters etc.
Heres link, check it out

I've written several GIMP tutorials that you can find here (http://www.flightsimguides.com/articles.php?cat_id=1) at FlightSimGuides.

I can't succeed with Gimp, there are a lot of versions and when I download someone I need a older version to continue and then again... this is confusing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

you can download a trial version of photoshop or the like and use that, also you can download a plugin for it called remove white that will get round the problem of the background and finally use a free programme to convert your finished skin back to an 8 bit subject called bright, you cannot use a 24 bit in game as it will not recognise it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

filing that pm me send me the image and i will remove the background or put it on your skin for you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Here's a link to the most recent stable versions of Gimp m8.
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

To get Gimp working properly, you need to first download and install the GTK Runtime Environment. Then download and install the Gimp program itself.

Hope this is of assistance to you m8, Gimp is a great program. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Perhaps a stupid question but, can someone please give a hint with removing white background from a picture like the IL-2 nosearts? Just like this: Open file -> ... -> ... -> ... , etc. I use the program GIMP!!

And what's the correct file-type to save a skin for IL-2? .bmp won't work via GIMP and paint changes the colors :-(

Layer, Transparency, Color to Alpha. The default chioce is pure white, which is what you want (You can also pick from black, foreground color and background color)

Yes, save as a .bmp. Note that this is a 24-bit color .bmp, so it won't work until you redce the color depth to 8-bit. Like TT said, the best way of doing this is with a program called BRIGHT. There's a copy of it on Flying Legends (http://www.flying-legends.net/php/downloads/listings.php?cat_id=210), but you'll need to register (for free) to download it.

I got a problem, I can't select 'color to alpha' http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

At the top of your image window it should say what mode your are in, either indexed, RBG or greyscale. For Colour to Alpha to work, you need to make sure your image is in RBG mode. Simply click Image->Mode->RGB and you will be able to Colour to Alpha.

Thanks it worked! I've only to download Bright and then figure out how to put in on the aicraft.

Many thank! Much appreciated!

To use Bright:
Place the bright.exe file and your 24-bit skin in a folder by themselves. Create a text file, but call it "bright.bat" (make sure it's not "bright.bat.txt"). Edit this file with notepad and type in the following line:

bright *.bmp -o -bmp

Save it, then double-click the .bat file to convert your skin (and any other .bmp files inthat folder) to 8-bit for the game.

Hi again,

Bright did work great and I've now put some files in the folder and they worked! Thanks a lot. But I'm still having a little problem... When I set color to alpha and I copy the image and put it on the aircraft, I only can see the ridge of the copied image and some times a few legs but nothing more, what's my problem?
