...and am delving into the programing of same. While I study and test various configs, any tips and experience from the vets would be helpful and appreciated. (particularly interested in how progressive prop pitch might be programmed into one of the rotary dials??) Thanks.

While in the game config, go to HOTAS setup and turn the dial that you want to use as prop pitch. I wanted to use the other one for mixture aswell, but that didnt work so I use it for flaps.

I've been trying that with the Rotary 1 axis, but decided it must not be that simple as it didn't work. Do the bands have to be designated in SST somehow?

Yes, in SST You can make bands as you wish.
But I'd rather suggest You Dhauzimmer's alternative driver + XDProfile. I used SST for a year, but then switched to Dhauzimmer's and am happy since then. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Leave the rotary reporting as "Axis". Start the game, go to the "Controls" screen, scroll all the way to the bottom. There you'll find a section under a heading "HOTAS CONTROL". Assign the rotary there by clicking in the right column next to "Pitch" and turning the rotary. If it assigns in the opposite direction to what you'd like, repeat the process moving the rotary in the opposite direction when you assign it.
