Heroes 5 Frequently Asked Questions.

As much help as the find button is, about some things there have been so many posts that it's almost impossible to find ˜that' one post between the hundreds of posts that don't answer the question. To make it a little easier, here you will find the questions asked most often so that people can find the answers to their questions more easily.

Please note that these Q and A are things I picked up over the forum, I don't claim to actually know all of this.
My thanks go to the people that did find the solutions to problems and shared them with the rest of the forum.

The Q&A in this post are in the following order:
About manuals.
About unseen buttons.
About the troops.
About the campaign maps.
About fan made maps.
About the map editor.
About the patches.
About the installation CDs/DVD.
About (re)installation problems.
About playing online.

About manuals.

Q. I find the information that came with the game a bit lacking, where can I find more info?
A. There are two fan manuals ˜out there.' Both are very detailed, and the first one mentioned carries the Ubi seal of approval.
You can find them here. (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1851065692/m/3651093864)
And here. (http://www.celestialheavens.com/viewpage.php?id=557)

About unseen buttons.

Q. I realize that you can't show EVERY button on the screen and that keyboard shortcuts are used for them instead. But what are those ˜Unseen buttons?'
A. The most commonly asked for button is the W button for ˜wait.'
There are however a lot more keyboard functions.
For Heroes 5 you will find all of them described on page 40 to 42 in the manual that came with the game.
For the HoF expansion you will find these keyboard functions on page 10 to 13 of the manual.
For the TotE expansion you will find these keyboard functions on page 45 to 47 of the manual.
(For all three I'm talking about the English language manual, I have no idea about manuals in other languages.)

About the troops.

Q. How do I spit stacks of creatures in the game?
A. Simply click on the creature stack, then hold down the ˜shift' key and click on an empty creature slot. This will bring up the ˜split stack' screen. Obviously, this only works as long as you have an empty creature slot.

Q. How do I split creatures while on the battlefield?
A. You can't split creatures once the battle has begun, but in the tactical stage (after you entered the arena, but before you can see the enemy forces) you can split your creatures. What you need to do is take the creatures off the battlefield. Then you can split the troops in the same way as described in the question above. Once you have split the troops you can put both stacks on the battlefield.

Q. I have some creatures that I don't want on the battlefield in the coming battle; is this possible?
A. Yes. In the tactical stage (after you entered the battle, but before you see the enemy troops) you can click on the stack of creatures in the status bar at the bottom. This removed the troops of the battlefield. Be warned. If you take troops of the map and you loose the battle, you will loose those troops as well.

Q. Is there a way to use the caravans (available only in Hammers of Fate and Tribes of the East) to also move already bought creatures around?
A. Yes. It requires a little bit of a workaround though. At the town where you are caravanning the creatures from you need to have a Hero, and at least one creature for hire. Hire the creature with creating a caravan. Then use the Hero to intercept the caravan and transfer the already bought creatures to the caravan. Now the caravan will continue on to its original destination, with the newly placed creatures.

About the campaign maps.

My game is crashing at the end of a completed campaign mission. "Mission accomplished" appears and then the game crashes. My Hero did also not carry over to the next mission.
A. This seems to be a bug that was introduced with patch 5.
The short, quick solution to the "mission completed" crash seems to be to restart the mission but at a DIFFERENT difficulty level. For instance ˜hard' instead of the ˜normal' you were playing at. People who did this were able to complete the mission and have the hero carry over to the next mission. It also seems that once that mission is over you can set back the difficulty level to the one you prefer to play at.

Q. In mission 3 of the Inferno campaign (The Ship) every turn some creatures disappear from my army. Is there a reason for this?
A. Yes, there is a reason. It is explained to you in a cutscene at the beginning of day 2. The elves don't accept a demon lord as their leader, so every turn a couple of them desert Agrael.

Two possible solutions:

1. Use only Inferno troops from the city in the underground as Agrael's army.

2. Have another hero escort Agrael all of the time and give all elves to that hero before you end your turn. At the beginning of the next turn, give the elves back to Agrael. They only desert Agrael, your troops are safe even with other demon lords (the script/event only applies to Agrael).

Q. In the Haven campaign map "The Trap" I am supposed to get the boots to cross the bridge. Its even in my objectives with a green check mark. Yet I can't cross the bridge. What did I do wrong?
A. This was a small bug that made it into the game with patch 3. There are two options; first, the obvious one, install patch 4. The problem was fixed in patch 4.
Second, if for some reason you don't want to install patch 4 know that the problem is that you don't get the boots after beating the crypt *IF* you are wearing anything in your foot slot. You have to take anything off that you're wearing in your foot slot.
As long as your foot slot is empty, you will get the boots. The boots also don't have a working graphic, so your foot slot will look empty. But if you right-click on it, the Boots of Levitation will be there, and you can cross the water.

About fan made maps.

Q. Where do I have to place the fan made maps?
A. Once you opened the map editor (just opening and immediately closing the editor is enough)it created a folder in the Heroes 5 dir called ˜maps.' If you don't have this folder called Maps in your Heroes folder; make it. Fan made maps have to be placed there. To clarify, I'm talking about the heroes folder on your main drive, not the heroes folder in the ˜my documents' folder; that one is only where your profile and safe-games are stored.

Q. I downloaded some multiplayer, and also some single player maps. Should I make sub folders in the ˜maps' folder to keep them separate?
A. No. All maps, regardless of being single or multiplayer, should be placed directly in the Maps folder. In fact, if you do make sub folders the maps you place in them won't show up in the game.

Q. I just Downloaded some maps and now I suddenly have sub folders in the maps folder, but I thought there weren't supposed to be any sub folders.
A. There are indeed not supposed to be any subfolders. If you do have sub folders it means that you made a little mistake; namely unpacking a map that shouldn't be unpacked. What you need to do is NOT unpack the map you downloaded. Instead you need to rename it to give it the .h5m extension, or the .PAK extension. (My personal preference is .h5m so that I still remember later on just what exactly the file is.)
Also, be advised. If you do have sub folders, it also means that the maps that created those sub folders won't show up in the game; you need to rename the extension for the map to show up, but not unpack the map.

Q. What extension do the maps need to have to work?
A. The maps have to be in the .h5m or .PAK format. Please note, if you downloaded a map and it's a ZIP file you can either unpack the map (which is enough in most cases, but in some cases causes the problem above of creating sub folders), or you can simply rename the .zip extension to a .h5m extension.

Q. The map I downloaded doesn't show up while other maps I downloaded do. Why?
A. Most maps work just fine when you unpack them into the maps folder, as long as they have the .h5m or .pak expansion. But some maps don't show up in the game if they are unpacked. What you need to do is rename the zip file you downloaded from a .zip to a .h5m expansion.

About the map editor.

Q. I just installed Heroes 5 and wanted to try my hand at the map editor, but I can't find it. Where is it?
A. The map editor is added to the game through the patches; you need to install the patches. The best option is to install patch 4; that way you DO NOT have to install the first 3 patches, and you will have the improved version of the map editor.

Q. Wasn't a Random Map Generator supposed to come with the map editor?
A. No. Heroes 5 was only ever supposed to have the Map editor. The Random Map Generator has been introduced with the first Heroes V expansion called ˜Hammers of Fate.'

Q. I got Hammers of Fate installed but every time I do ˜generate map' in the game I get maps where I can't chose which faction I play. Why not, and how do I change this so that I can play as the faction I want?
A. Since the first release of the RMG in Heroes was basically a first draft, you will notice that there are a few bugs in it. If you want to play as a specific faction you have to make a random map by using the Map editor. Simply open the map editor and lick ˜Create random map' in there. If this way you still cannot chose the faction you want, simply open the map again with the editor and change the town of player one to the faction you want to play as.
Or, install the HoF patch, that fixed the problem.

Q. Is there a way how I can turn my single player map into a multiplayer map once I have already started to make it?
A. Yes. Here is what you need to do step by step:

1. unpack the map *.h5m file with winzip, winrar or any other program. If you do not manage to do it otherwise, change the .h5m extension manually to .zip

2. There is now a new Maps directory with a subdirectory called SingleMissions or Multiplayer depending on map type. Rename it to the version you want. Check the case sensitive spelling!

3. pack the Map directory and everything within it back to a *.zip file

4. Rename the .zip to .h5m

In summary, all you have to do is to rename a directory inside the *.h5m file. h5m files themselves are renamed zip archives.

Q. Is there a way make/change a map into a team map, or can you only play teams on maps that were team maps to begin with?
A. Yes. Setting teams for a map is pretty easy.

1. Double click the map in the maps folder to open it in the map editor.

2. Select view/map properties

3. From this menu click teams and then the checkbox teams.

4. Insert the desired team arrangements (1vs.3 etc.)

5. From the map properties menu (where you selected teams) go to general map properties and in the map name insert 1vs.3 into the title so that it shows up that way in the game.

6. Save and exit.

About the patches.

Q. Where can I find the patches?
A. For H5 the best option is to install patch 4 which includes all correction made in the previous patches. It also adds a ˜check for updates' button to the start menu of Heroes. If you click that it checks for update and installs any patches that came out after patch 4. (You might have to check for several times since it might install a patch one at a time, I don't know for sure.)

Otherwise the patches, including the old ones, can be found (amongst other places) at the following sites. My personal suggestion would be FileFront and Celestial Heavens. This because the patches are the easiest to find there, while at the other places you have to hunt to find them.
Ubisoft (http://www.ubi.com/US/default.aspx)
Nival (http://www.nival.com/)
FileFront (http://browse.files.filefront.com/Heroes+of+Might+and+Magic+V+Official+Patches/;1639340;/browsefiles.html)
Celestial Heavens (http://www.celestialheavens.com/)

Other links to the patches can be found in these forum posts:
Patch 1 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1851065692/m/5651041154)
Patch 2 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1851065692/m/1011022464)
Patch 3 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1851065692/m/5011020284)
Patch 4 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1851065692/m/6501011205)
Patch 5 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1851065692/m/1951012655)

Patch 1 for HoF (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1851065692/m/1091028725/p/1)

And that is the last link to patches that I'm going to put in because all versions (once H5 is been patched with at least patch 1) have an update button you can access from the start menu. Use that to check for updates. (You might want to check several times to make sure you have gotten all the patches.)

Q. Do I need to install all patches, or is installing the last patch enough?
A. For H5, patch 4 includes all corrections made in the previous patches, so to cover the patches until patch 4 you only need to install patch 4. Patch 4 is compatible with all previous version of Heroes 5. From version 1.0 to 1.3. Patch 5 is once again a patch that first needs the other patches installed.

To simplify the patching process I would strongly recommend that you install either patch 1 or patch 4 and then use the ˜check for updates' option in the Heroes 5 folder in the start menu. The same goes for the Hammers of Fate expansion. It came with an auto updater option; simply click that one and downloading and installing goes automatically.

Q. When I try to install the patch I get the message that Heroes 5 is not installed; but it is. Now what?
A. There are several different versions of the patch and which one you need depends on A, where you bought the game, and B, what version of the game you have. For instance, a standard version of the game bought in the U.S. needs the standard U.S. patch, while a Collector's edition of the game that was bought in Europe will need the European collectors edition patch. If you try to install the wrong patch you will get the message that Heroes is not installed.
Two things to remember. 1, nowadays with Internet stores, you might have bought the game online in Europe, but you might actually have the American edition. 2 There are a lot of countries that don't have their own version of the patch. Australia and Thailand come to mind.

Q. I don't know which version of the game I have. How do I find out?
A. Go to the Windows Start button.
Click it, and then click on the ˜run' option.
Type: regedit
Hit enter.
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubisoft\Heroes of Might and Magic V (may differ).
IN that folder you will see another folder and the name of that is the version of the game you have; for instance ˜European.'

Q. I tried the above, but I still can't install the patches.
A. 90% of the time the above is the reason why you are not able to install the matches, so please try that first. However, if that still doesn't help you, take a look at this (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4611096804/m/7281020764) topic.

Q. People suggest that I update using the auto updater, but I don't have an auto updater, how come?
A. The auto updater is a feature that is introduced in H5 with patch 1. So you first need to download and install patch 1 or 4 (which has all fixes of the previous patches) manually. After that you will have the auto update function.
HoF and TotE both came with an update button. You can access that from your start menu and then going to where you have your game.

Q. When I want to use the auto update to install the patches I get a ˜CRC' error. What is this, and what do I do now?
A. The what it is, is not exactly known. My guess is that it is mainly caused by installed mods. But that's not important. The solution to it is to download the patch manually and then install that patch. This takes care of the problem. Remember to DL the right version of the patch.

About the installation CDs/DVD.

Q. I just installed my games from CDs, and I was never asked for disc 2. Just what exactly is disc 2 good for?
A. The second CD is the language CD. If you install the game in English you won't be asked for this disc; it is only asked for if you install in a different language than English.

About (re)installation problems.

Q. I uninstalled the game for a very good reason. Now I want to reinstall it but when I try I get a message asking me if I want to UN-install the game, and no matter how often I try to uninstall fully, I cannot do it, yet I also cannot reinstall the game because it says it's already installed. Now what?
A. When you deleted the game some of the game keys were left behind. To fix this do the following:
Go to start and pick ˜run.'
Type regedit.
Press enter.
In that program look for the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall
Under that key look for any keys related to heroes 5 (use f3 to search).
Delete all the keys found.
You should be able to install after this.

About playing online.

Q. I want to play online at Ubi.com, but I'm being asked for the ˜online key.' What is this, where do I find it?
A. The online key is the registration number you find printed on the front of the manual that came with the game.
Be advised, the key has to be entered in the way it is shown; including the dashed. So if it is printed in the 1234-5678 format, you have to indeed type 1234-5678, and NOT 12345678. Also, I heard, but don't know for sure, that letters in they key are CASE sensitive.

Q. How can I play multiplayer, and are there actually different ways of playing multiplayer games?
A. There are 3 different kinds of multiplayer; through ubi.com, over local area network, in hotseat.
Use Ubi.com if you want to play over a server against people all over the world.
Use Local Area Network is you want to play against specific friends.
Use Hotseat if you and some friends are in the same place and want to play on ONE computer.

To play through Ubi.com:
After loading the game:
1. Select multiplayer
2. Select Ubi.com
3. Enter the online key (which is the serial number printed on the manual you got with the game, INCLUDING the dashed, so, in the 1234-5678 format.)
4. Log in with your account and select a place to play.

To play over Local Area Network:
After loading the game:
If you want to host the game:
1. Select multiplayer
2. Select a name you want to play as
3. Click Create
4. Select a map
5. Click create
5. Click ˜start game' when you friends have joined the game

If you want to join a LAN game hosted by a friend:
1. Select multiplayer
2. Select a name you want to play as
3. Click Join
4. Select a game to join

If you want to play hotseat:
1. Select multiplayer
2. Select Hotseat
3. Select a mode
4. Select a map
5. Click Create
6. Select a faction for all human players and make sure the rest is set to computer.
7. Select Start game

About Q&As at other places.

Q. I hate to tell you, but I didn't find an answer to my question. Where else can I look for answers?
A. There are two Q&As in the forums at Celestial Heavens. here (http://www.celestialheavens.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1977) and

here (http://www.celestialheavens.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19).
And let us most definitely not forget the Ubisoft solution center

here. (http://ubisoft-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php)

Did you find a mistake in the FAQ?
Please let me know so that I can correct it and keep this FAQ up to date.

This is quite a good idea. Thanks for doing it.

Btw, just one thing I think should be added:

Q. I have some creatures that I don’t want on the battle field in the coming battle; is this possible?
A. Yes. In the tactical stage (after you entered the battle, but before you see the enemy troops) you can click on the stack of creatures in the status bar at the bottom. This removed the troops of the battle flied. Be warned. If you take troops of the map and you loose the battle, you will loose those troops as well.

Warning that in 1.3 patch, creatures left out of battle dissapear. Know it's actually a bug, but still think it's worthy of mention in FAQ as well, atleast until another patch that corrects it.

Alias-hw, my Maps folder lacks the subfolders;
they're all in the same folder, yet they still function as one or the other (and I believe they're all .h5m files, none of which have ever been zipped, only created with map editor).
Should I create the subfolders, or will this not work?

First, let me remind that I made this Q&A from questions I saw coming by on the forums, and with the Q&A’s supplied by some much appreciated forum members. So, I don’t pretend to know all the answers, and the best I can give you is a ‘as far as I know.’ http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Now, as far as I know...

No, there should be no sub folders. All maps should be directly in the ‘maps’ folder. In fact, if you create sub folders and place them there, they don’t show up in the game. If you created them with the editor and they are .H5m at the moment then I would suggest leaving them like that. (Just so that you know, if you DL maps from others and you suddenly do have a sub folder it means that you did something wrong; namely unpacking a map that shouldn’t have been unpacked, and that this map will now not show up in the game.)

If you however want to compress your maps so that you can upload the files and others can download them, I would actually suggest pacing them in a .PAK file. The reason for that is that .PAK files work when placed in the map folder and therefore don’t need any renaming while .ZIP files have to be renamed to .h5m or .PAK to actually show up in the game.

Hope that answers your question. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have a question. Where, oh where, can I download a HOMM5 demo? I don't really have $100 bucks for a game atm but want to see what it's going to be like when I eventually do buy it. Any ideas, I can't find it anywhere on UbiSoft site.

Thanks guys.

Does your product box has a "T" for Teen rating instead of "E" for Everyone onto it?

If yes, send a formal request for a new valid key through the Ubi.com's Support's E-mailing system. Can take a while for them to answer but someone will be with you anyway.

If no, return the package to the same store that you bought it. Refusal to refund or replace with true legal and official non-pirated version is a serious legal offence. You must contact Ubisoft for an immediate consideration of copyright's lawsuit(if the dealer/retailer still refuses).

Hope that helps. I really and truly impatient to read another post of yours. Want to know the results you got(and the rest of the Forum Community also).

Forgive me if this sounds like a ?duh? answer, but... did you also use the - things?

A lot of people make the mistake that they type the code that comes in the 1234-5678 format as 12345678. You need to type it exactly the same; with the dashes. Also, I heard, but don?t know this, that the letters in the code are CASE sensitive.

here (http://ubisoft-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php)

You will find the FAQ on the Ubi site. If that still doesn?t help, at the top left there is a tab that says ?support home? if you click that, and then some very clear choices, you will come to a place where you can sent Ubi an e-mail with your question.

What exactly do you mean with ?don?t work??
Do you mean that you get a message when you try to install the patch that says that Heroes 5 is not installed?
Or do you mean that the installing of patches SEEMS to work just fine, but in the end you still only have Version 1.0, according to the screen?
Or do you try to install and get an ?CRC? error?
Or something else?

Normally the profiles folder are the place where the ?profiles? (players names) are stored. Look inside the folder, if you see another folder called ?saves? there, then this is indeed a profile.

Those are needed so that the game knows just who is playing it. In general, unless you want to copy the folder to make sure that you have your save games in a secure place, you don?t ever have to be in the profiles folder anyway. So my simple suggestion would be; if the game works, don?t mind about the folders there. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

What is this bull****?

Heroes of Might and Magic V has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I need some help on the game heroes of might and magic V. I get an error in the middle or at the end of the loading screen which brings it back to the windows screen. The error says "Heroes of Might and Magic V has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The details of the error say " AppName: h5_game.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.27 ModName: h5_game.exe
ModVer: 1.0.0.27 Offset: 001862e1"

I know that the graphics card is okay, because I can play "HOMM V: Hammers of Fate" without copping the same error. I got both the HOMM 5 games in the silver edition case. I assume that Hammers of Fate uses the same requirements as the first one.

I tried to install the HOMM V 1.4 patch, and it does not pick the game up as being installed, thus quitting the installation. I'm an australian, I bought my game from an australian store, and i have no idea which patch to get. US, EU? It depresses me cause they take a while to download.

Any guidance you can offer me as to getting this game to work???

Hi http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I just bought the silver edition of HoM&M 5 (complete pack with both HoM&M 5 and HoF)

I got the version 2.0 of the game installed, it followed with the game.

And from the other games i always loved to do campaigns!
But after a day i completed all three campaigns

Freyda's Dilemma (Haven Campaign):
The Rebels
The Suspicion
Duncan
Negotiations
The Choice

Wulfstan's Defiance (Fortress Campaign):
The Border Zone
The Ambush
The Guerillas
The Brothers
Laszlo

Ylaya's Quest (Mixed Campaign):
The Spy
The Break
The Meeting
The Dragons
The Final

-----------------------------------------------

So i check your FAQ in hope of getting a link to some site where it maybe was possible to download some more campaigns and see that you mention a campaing named: The Ship, mission 3 of the Inferno Campaign. I don't have an Inferno Campaign at all. I looked everywhere but i dont seem to find it!

You also mention a campaign map named: The Trap, Haven Campaign. I can't find that either http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

So i was wondering, is this a map i need to download from somewhere or complete anything to activate it?

I?m not sure, but I think those are the campaigns that came with HoF.
(Version 2.0 is HoF.)
The other campaigns, to which ?the ship? is one of the parts, are from Heroes 5 itself. As far as I know you can only play those if you start Heroes 5 with the Heroes 5 CD/DVD. On those you also won?t see any dwarfs though. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Anyway, start specifically Heroes 5 and you should see the campaigns. The first few are REALLY easy, but that?s only because those are really more of a trainer.

As for finding campaigns online; you won?t. Online you will only find individual fan made maps. But, there are some damn good maps there to find. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

hi all
I'm playing the original campaign again and noticed that the bug on "The Trap" map was solved after patch 1.4 (now the boots are visible all the time).
I know this is a late information but I guess it's new on this thread.

Thank you very much for the info! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
I?ll change the part in the FAQ in the next couple of days.

Thanks again.

OK, I have searched all the forums I can and have not seen anyone with this issue. I have purchased the game at BB, installed it, played it for weeks and weeks with the CD constantly in the drive. Lately, I continually get an error on starting the game that says I am using a backup disk and to please insert the original HOMM V disk. IT IS THE ORIGINAL HOMM 5 DISK. I have to click it to start about ten times, then suddenly it works again. It's very annoying - how can I fix it??? Thanks!

It's the CD-key, and it's on the back of the manual. That's the code you'll need to online play.

Really odd. Unfortunately I have no clue how to fix this. I'd suggest you post this problem on the Tech forum. But that particular error has to do with SecureRom (the Copy Protection software)...so contacting them might be a good idea as well.

Have you updated to the newest patch yet? This latest patch dealt with the changes they did to the Ubi.com servers.

If it's not that, you might want to check to see if you've got the correct ports open and your firewall disabled.

I can't really answer your first question other than suggesting that you take a look at the ˜playing online' part of the FAQ and see if you did something differently then described there. As for where to get patch 1.41; simply follow the links in the FAQ in the patches section. I know for sure (just checked) that FileFront brings you to a page that has all patches.

As for previous patches, I don't know if patch 1.41 included all previous patches, but I do know that patch 1.4 did. So just to be sure I would suggest DL patch 1.4, and then 1.41.

Hey, whenever I try to play single player, everything is working until I get to the 100% mark of loading completion. As soon as I hit that, it just crahes. Do I have install the patches or something? I'm also running an Windows XP, and I've not really had much problems with loading things before.

EDIT: Just noticed another post about the exact same thing, going to send this over to tech support.

New question: I got the game to work and I'm experimenting with some stuff like the custom games, and my town looks like this:

I've tried stuff like changing the video options, but nothing is working.

Please, people, use the Tech Forum Topic threads for answering this kind of Video Resolution problem instead of using the stickies of this General Discussion Topic thread of the HoMM5 Forum(which is this very one, right now).

According to these linked snapshots, it is indeed, a DirectX9.0c's fault. You will need to download and install the DirectX9.0c-April 2007's version onto your PC system. Updating/Upgrading your video driver to a recent 2007 one will be a sure bet to a successful gameplay of HoMM5:Original/HoMM5:H.o.F.

Installing patch 1.4 + 1.41 is now, only required, before installing patch 1.5. Then, you can go onto the full installation of the expansion of Hammers of Fate v.2.0 + patch 2.1. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gif

@Patenaudeluc ... if it's mandatory THEN WHY CAN I INSTALL THE ADD-ON WITHOUT installing the patch and why do I have all the features of the add-on!!!!..(and 1.41). Perhaps due to the fact that the freaking 2.1 patch contains the changes for 1.41 as well?

Patenaudeluc
04-22-2007, 04:46 AM
Yes, the expansion of H.o.F v.2.0 + patch 2.1 only complements(adds themselves onto) the changes that were promised in 1.41. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

So, basically, in 1.5 goes side-by-side the changes of 2.1 and, 2.2 goes over the changes of 1.5. Looks like it now, anyway, to me at least.

Ok I'm sure people know this but if you want to play as a certain town when creating a random map using the RMG simply click the "use only random towns" button. This makes everything set to random but lets the user choose town types, heroes, and starting bonus ala Heroes III when playing a RM.

That darn 1.5 patch made me look like an absolute moron. I totally swear, that I could not play HoMM5:Original v.1.41 using the original's play disk for all of these 6 to 7 months(since before I install H.o.F. over it). Now, I fully can. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Please, do not use cheats. It fully unbalances the game's stability. And, these cheat codes have not been fully tested, yet.

And, yes. 'Maps' folder. Then unzip them for access to them in the map loading/creating of the game.

Sorry for not reacting sooner.
I was (am for 2 more days) on vacation and had limited (aka almost none) access to a computer.
As for the cheat codes, I can't really help you, I'm sorry to say. You might want to try here (http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/heroes5/heroes5_cheats.shtml) and here. (http://www.maps4heroes.com/heroes5/cheats_eng.php)

But let me ad that for some reason that escape most heroes fans, Nival is putting a lot of effort into making it harder and harder to use the cheat codes. Using the cheat codes was easy when the game came out. Then the number of cheat codes was limited. Then it was made even harder... basically, with every patch they made it harder to use cheat codes.

As for maps try:

Here (http://www.celestialheavens.com/) and here. (http://www.maps4heroes.com/heroes5/cheats_eng.php)

Lastly, if you cannot win a game not even on easy I would suggest a new approach to gaming. What works really well for me, on all levels, is the super army. Have some scouts with only one creature as scouts to explore territory, but leave most to almost all of your creatures with one hero that you use for attacking enemy heroes and also defending your territory. Only when your army is so big that you wil all battles and can really spare extra creatures start building a second strong army so that you can leave one behind for defending while the first even stronger army goes and conquers.
Oh, and if you are on the campaigns, there are walkthroughs for the campaigns to be found at Celestial heavens, if I remember correctly.

Trust me, I used the cheat codes in the beginning when it was easy. All that using the cheat codes does is make the game boring.

Well, as I do say in the FAQ, I don't pretend to know it all, I simply posted Questions and Answers that have been given in posts on the forum. So all I can do is guess.

First of all, if you made the folder yourself you might have misspelled it. It is supposed to be spelled:

maps

Besides that, another thing that it can be is that most maps that are made are multiplier maps. Now, you can also play those as single player so that you DL multiplayer maps is no a problem. The thing is that in the game where you select your maps there is a checkbook that says ˜show multiplayer maps' And (if I remember correctly) a checkbox that says ˜show RMG maps.'

If you don't have those selected (checked) then it will only show you the few single player maps that the game came with.

If it's not that, than I wouldn't know what the problem is for maps that you DL.

But if you made the maps yourself there is one more thing. H5 checks if a map is playable. If not then it won't show the map no matter what. The problem here is that the map editor only checks if you don't have any problems like a castle in the water. So in the map editor the map may come out as alright. But it won't mention things like the small fact that you don't have a hero and have the towns set to not start with a hero.

Anyway, the point is that if H5 does not see the map as playable it won't show it. But again, that's normally only with maps you created yourself since maps on the net are normally tested.

Also, about changing the extension. How do you do this? You have to keep in mind that just using the Windows explorer won't cut it. If you have a zip file and you just use the Windows explorer to ad .H5m then you aren't changing the expansions, but merely are changing the name that the file has. You have to use a program that does actually change the expansion names.

alias-hw

HoF has a ˜check for updates' button. (In the start menu, in the same location where the HoF launcher is located.) If you use that it ensures that you have the right version of the patch and also automatically installed the patch after DL. (Once you agreed to it.)

If you don't want to do that but instead want to use a patch you DL from a site, then first of all make sure that you have the correct patch or else you will get the ˜Heroes not installed' message. But once you have the patch; all the H5 and Hof patches are self extracting and self installing programs. Once you DL the patch click on it and run it. It then automatically installs itself. So it doesn't matter at all where you keep the patch. You can DL it onto the desktop or any folder you like.

And for ˜what if after DL/installing the patch you can still not play' I would suggest first actually installing the patch and see if it works before asking what to do if it not works.

It might work, you might get an error message and from that one can say what the problem is, you might still not get online... to many variables to say ˜what if it doesn't work.'

Links of where to find the patches are given in the very first post of this topic.
As for the patch, did you use the ˜check for updates' button? Because I can't remember hearing that someone that installed the patch for HoF had a problem with it showing the incorrect version number. This was an issue for some people with the normal game (so the version 1.1 to 1.5) but not with HoF.

Click the ˜check for updates' button to see and make sure that it says ˜no updates available' if you get that message back you are patches all the way, otherwise you will start to automatically downloade the patch after clicking that button.

It's alias-hw's fault that this guy was too stupid to click the "Check for Updates" link like he told him too and then he pouts like a baby and runs off? He told him exactly how it's done and that alone would be enough. The patching process is simple and works on it's own, so there is nothing more to do than to click one simple link.

I guess alias should have suggested completely rebuilding his computer like you seem to think is the solution for all problems regarding this game.

What I really would like to know is why you come here talking about how sad it is that I can't help someone with patch the game... and then you yourself don't even try. Why is there no ˜here do it this way.'

Why not kill two birds with one stone? First help someone with the game and second show everyone that you can do what I (according to you) failed to do.

But no, all you do is come here and spew a lot of negativity. Hell, I don't mind if someone shows me how incompetent I am; go right ahead; you help this person make the game work.

Once again you are grossly misinformed about the facts, which is really a sad thing considering that you actually were part of that topic and posted two messages there.

Your ˜help with choosing my next PC' was in saying I need at least one gig or ram... AFTER I said that the new system would have one gig of ram. And talking some nonsense about adding 500 MB of ram to that one gig so that the memory would then run at a different speed... as I said, nonsense. Which I btw didn't do.

So you most definitely did not help me choose my new system, and the one (nonsense) suggestion that you did make, I stayed wide away from.
Besides, since you are that known with computer stuff you would have known that it would be impossible to follow your suggestion even if I wanted to since the motherboard has a dual memory system. I forgot what the technical name for it is, but what's important is that everything memory wise has to happen in pairs. I have to have two one gig cards, or four one gig cards, or two one gig and two two gig cards, or four two gig cards. Nothing else is possible. If you want to refresh your memory, here (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4611096804/m/9391067035) is the link to the topic... BTW, you do know that when you go edit your own posts that there is a ˜last edited on' message that shows that you changed the post... right? You do know that, right?

That sounds very dramatically... but too late for what? Help me with the computer system that I have for four months already now, or too late with helping this person with the game?
That's nice convenient statement, isn't it? You just say that I can't help this person and then you quickly state that it's too late for you too help. Sure.
Well, I now say that you have no idea on how you could help this person besides saying the things I already said. Go on; prove mo wrong. Say something that would have fixes his patching problem that I didn't already say.

To me, your posts are totally confusing to the very maximum. On a lot of topic threads, you seem to grasp the situation discussed and, on a lot of topic threads, you lose it completely and your attempts to help does not get close or near the requested help.

Here's a chart on how to make sure the HoMM5 game will work:

A computer with first generation of Athlon XP/Pentium 4 processors will generally possess very old components and, are generally under-specs. for installing and playing HoMM5.
Will have Win XP Home with/without the Service Packs.

A computer with second generation of Athlon 64/Pentium 4 processors will generally possess old components and, are generally at the minimum specs. for installing and playing HoMM5(as long as the large majority of drivers are updated/upgraded to their uppest/newest stances). Will have Win XP Home/Professional with at least SP1 installed and in full use already(once the SP2 installed, it now becomes viable to upgrade to Win Vista Home Basic or even Premium upgrade Edition/Business upgrade Edition). Might even meet the recommended specs. chart.

A computer with third generation of Athlon 64-X2/Pentium 4-Dual Core will generally possess current or advanced components and, are generally at the recommended and slightly above type specs. for installing and playing HoMM5(all drivers are most current). Will have Win MCE 2005(Immediately upgradeable to Win Vista Home/Business/Ultimate 32bit and 64bit Editions). Only the PC users of the 32bit Editions will they ever be able to play HoMM5, unfortunately. 64bit ones are too advanced for it, sorry.

The computers with today's fourth generation of AMD Processors(2.8Ghz ones) will have preinstalled 64bit components with the 64bit Edition of Vista(the 3 major full Edition types according to the new user's need of daily use of such monster of a PC). The Pentium 4-Dual Core with a copy of Vista Ultimate 64bit will also have preinstalled 64bit components. HoMM5 is considered uninstallable due to its 32bit's C#+'s application core programming.

I do hope anyone that gets to read this post will print a memorandum copy of it all.

Sure I did. Once again a lot of nonsense that is no baring at on on what even you yourself try to say.

You start of saying:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">
Here's a chart on how to make sure the HoMM5 game will work: </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

And then you go into a lengthy monologue on which kind of computer system needs what kind of operating system (according to you), which is by the way also complete nonsense, but you never again say a word about how to actually make Heroes 5 work.

Or are you trying to say that if you have that operating system installed on that kind of system that heroes will always work?

If so, than why are you always suggesting to people to buy new soundcards, or more ram, or a new computer? Why not suggest to them to buy the operating system that is sure to make the game work on their commuter?
And before you say that they need that component as well, then why not say ˜you need a new soundcard, and windows XP' to run the game on your computer.'

Or how about when you mentioned that you HAVE to have the latest Symantec antivirus installed or else the game will never run? That for about a month you kept saying that every and all H5 program would be solved with buying Symantec software, wasn't the ˜right OS' for the right ˜comp system' an issue then? Why don't you mention anymore that you just HAVE to have Symantec software installed? Might it be because a half year later you found out, and mentioned here on the forum, that this wasn't the problem at all?

No, you just go on and on about how computer systems of a ˜certain generation' will by definition have a certain operating system on it. If this is so, then how come your seven year old system has Vista on it? Could it be that, I don't know, maybe you upgraded the operating system? So, even on your very own computer what you yourself are saying is absolutely not true.

You do realize that a vast majority of users do at least upgrade the OS once before buying a new computer, right? The only exception to that could have been the XP users because XP was on the market long enough to cover someone buying a computer and then buying a new computer 4 years later.

So, tell me, how can you say that a computer from ˜this generation' will have ˜that' operating system? Are you now going to say that they cannot have a different operating system? Nowadays computers come with Vista, but can't a buyer who liked XP better still buy XP and install that? I did. Hell, can't a buyer that liked windows 98 better go and buy Windows 98 of Ebay and install that? Or are you trying to say that Windows 98 won't run on a new computer?

But all of that really is beside the point. Why? Because you only mention that ˜this generation of computer' will run ˜that operating system' which, even if it was true, (which it is not by definition) has nothing to do at all with making H5 run on any of those systems.

Again, you say:

Here's a chart on how to make sure the HoMM5 game will work:

Tell me, how is knowing which operating system you are running going to make the game work? I think that every person that has a problem with Heroes will know which operating system they are running... after all, it is shown right on their screen every time the computer starts up.
So, if I have a problem with my game (which I do not) tell me, how is knowing that I run XP SP2 going to suddenly fix my problem with the game?

Or, if I buy a new computer today that has Vista home basic on it (which is 32 bit), are you saying that it's impossible to have H5 problems on that system? (Btw, this too contradicts your statement that new computers will have a 64 bit operating system. A lot of systems are sold with the 32 bit basic version of Vista.) So it's impossible for this person to have an unsupported soundcard, or an unsupported monitor(resolution) or an unsupported graphics card?

Well, I could go on showing how your post has nothing to do with the fact and still doesn't magically make H5 run without problems on any and all computer, but I think I made my point. The point being that you don't know what you are talking about; as usual.

You really don't seem to get it, do you?

I am not in a competition with you to one up to see who is the best helper here on the forum. I'm not looking for some title here. Hell, I would in fact love to be proven wrong in every post I make. Why? Because then someone would be proving me wrong and in the process help the person that has the problem. I don't mind at all admitting that I don't know something; and I do so often enough. Unlike someone else I could mention, I for one do use words like ˜I don't know for sure, this is just a guess, maybe this will help.'

So I really don't know what your problem is with me, unless you can't take the fact that I have proven you wrong on several occasions with facts. Facts I then showed with a link to a webpage.

It really isn't that hard you know? Google is really easy to use, I suggest you try using it sometimes to check the things you say before posting them here.

The last couple of months... first your started to call me names here on the forum and when that didn't work in bringing me down to that level, you lately put a lot of effort into trying to proof that I don't know what I'm talking about. First of all, even if you could proof that, I couldn't care less. I just suggest things to people (which don't cost money) for them to try. If it works, great. If not, nice try. Second of all, try to realize that trying to drown out my statements with a lot of nonsense words won't work. It will only give me more to work with to proof that you are posting a nonsense statement.

Do you really want it to be proven on such an ongoing basis that you don't know what you are talking about? Just know that I have my good friend google to help me react to posts you make that are directed at me.

This proves that you (Patenaudeluc) don't have a clue of what you're talking about. (and yes, I'm a programmer http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif)

1.C#+ ?!? LOL! What is that? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
C++ and C# are two different programming languages (there are many more, like Pascal, C, etc...); you use a C++/C# compiler (like Visual Studio 2005) to compile a project with that language into an executable file. The executable has its instructions as assembly code.
Now, I do not know whether Nival used C++ or C# into their project, but my go would be for C++ since it's more low-level and gives you more power... also, C# saves the name of the variables in the .exe file and thus is easier to disassembly, which is not a good thing from a security point of view.

2.The uninstall thing has absolutely no connection at all with C++ or C#.
If there is something regarding the programming languages, it's the engine optimization (it is bound to be bad if C# was used... but I doubt it)
Also, I should add that most games use C++ language, so by your definition they are all uninstallable, right? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

You just mix some words you seen somewhere and rephrase them into a sentence that looks intelligent to cover up the fact that you don't know anything about those things at all http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

I find the C#+ mix the funniest of all so far http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I have been unable to play my game because it crashes as soon as I start a campaign or custom mission. I looked around on the forums, and found that I need to download the patches in order to fix this problem. I downloaded 1.4, only to find that it crashes as soon as I attempt to install it. How do I fix this?

Map Editor Question!

Random Town; I want the player to be able to start with 5 towns of the same type AND be able to choose faction/alignment himself. How do I do this? Thus far the only result I get is that player 1(red) starts with 5 towns under his colors, and they are indeed RANDOM. His main town becomes what faction/alignment he chose(ie: haven) but his other 4 becomes totally random, not following the faction/alignment of choice.

Any tips?

Highlight the random town (by clicking on it once) that you want linked with your starting town. Then, there is a button up on the taskbar directly to the right next to the binoculars icon. If you hover over it, it will say Object Properties. Click that and it will open the town's property menu. Next, click the tab that says Random Type. You will see 3 options (Full Random, Like Player, Like Town). I can't seem to get the Like Town option to work for some reason, but if you click Like Player and then assign it to the player that you are going to be, it should then make all random towns the same as what you start with.

I've gotten that same "backup disk" error message occasionally also. Restarting the computer usually helps, as does checking to make sure the CD/DVD is clean (with 2 of my kids also playing HOMM V & HOF, the disk does occasionally get a bit smudged).

Well, others were able to install it under Vista.
Could you be a little bit more precise? As in, do you get an error message? And if so, which one? Are you installing from CD/DVD or the Downloadable version? If you are installing the Downloadable version, have you installed the version before, on a different computer for instance? Does your CD/DVD drive recognize the disk?

Stuff like that.

I have the HOMM V and the Hammers of Fate expansion. There are several patches (1.1, 1.4, 1.41, etc.) - WHAT IS THE ORDER of installing ALL patches needed from the BEGINNING, with the expansion?

Please read this fully.

Alright, first, I'm going to assume that you have the right version of the patches. (U.S. version for a U.S. game, and so on.)

Now, for the Heroes 5 game the only patches of interest are patch 4, 4.1, and 5. The reason being that patch 4 had all the changes/fixes that were introduced in the first 3 patches. So you need to install patch 4, then 4.1, then 5.

If you have Hammers of Fate (like you say you do) and you ONLY use that disk to play the game, than all you need (at the moment) is patch 2.1 and you can forget all about the patches for the original Heroes game. The reason for this being that the expansion had all the patches for H5 up to patch 4.1, and the changes that were introduced in patch 5 were also in patch 2.1.

Now, hang on for one last moment.
Since you have the HoF expansion, it is even easier; you can forget all about patches.
Here is what you do. When you have H5 and HoF installed. Go to the Windows ˜start' button. Go to the folder that has the Heroes game. (Where you would go if you want to start the game from the ˜Start' folder.)

Now, look there. For both Heroes 5, and for HoF you will see a button called ˜check for updates.' That's all you need. If you click that the game will check if there is an update (patch) and if it is you will be asked if you want to install it.

The beauty of this is that you are guaranteed to have the right version of the patch, and you will always know for sure that you have the latest patch (once you checked for the update.)

One more thing. Once you have done the ˜check for updates' thing and a patch is installed, click the ˜check for updates' button again (and maybe again) until you get the message that there are no updates. The reason for this is because the patches are installed one at a time.

The ˜check to updates' is the easy way, but if you never the less what to do the patches by hand then all you need is patch 4, 4.1, 5, and/or 2.1

Still confused?
Then you can simply opt to install it all.
Patch 1, 2, 3, 4, 4.1, 5. And patch 2.1 That are all the patches that exist at the moment of me writing this. And installing them all in order is also an option of you want to make sure that you have it all.

I hope that helped.

H.W.

There are maps for the original HOMM V in the official strategy guide from Prima. Otherwise, both Celestial Heavens and gamepressure.com have maps for both the original HOMM V and Hammers of Fate as part of their walkthroughs; Celestial Heavens may also have some fan-made standalone maps/scenarios for HOMM V.

Remember that Griffins have very high initiative and they can get good moral when activating Battle Dive. So they tend to complete the dive very quickly.

Wasp Swarm and Initiative Penalty: Wasp Swarm cast by Dirael or any other hero who learns it penalizes enemy initiative if they have Summoning magic. It gives an initiative hit of 0.2 for basic skill, 0.4 for advanced, or 0.6 for expert (this is in turns, directly subtracted from the enemy's initiative attribute). Sprites only interfere with the enemy's initiative if it's the week where all Summoning spells are cast at Expert level reguardless of what skill the caster has. Dirael's specialty, though, improves Wasp Swarm so that it does another 5% damage per level she has, and makes the initiative hit slightly higher. (actual formula is that the Mastery-based reduction (0.2/0.4/0.6) is multiplied by (1+0.02*level/3). For example, a level 20 Dirael with Expert Summoning would give an initiative hit of 0.68 turns)

About Gryphon Battle Dive: They do indeed hit the target at the next time their turn comes around, whether it's Gryphons or Imperial Gryphons diving. Battle Gryphons in Tribes of the East with their Rush Dive, on the other hand, take one round to dive. The advantage of using Battle Dive is that it does double the normal damage AND there's no retaliation. The advantage of Rush Dive is that it hits enemies in a line for 75% of the Battle Gryphon's damage, also with no retaliation. (note that normal Gryphons only get Battle Dive if being led by a hero with Gryphon Trainer as their specialty)

I had this but just managed to solve it. I turned all my graphics options down to minimum. Yup, turned graphics down.

I also turned off the hardware cursor, which may relate to it too. Doing all that allowed me to enter the last character of my online key, before I did that I could only enter 18 characters.

Of course now I need to get the patch for the Euro collector's edition and that's taken me an hour of searching mirrors so far, but at least I managed to get that number in there.

I don't see this question:

How do I look at the Tears of Asha map once I have seen it? It doesn't come back. Where is the "show map" option?

THank you.

Press 'o' to bring objectives. Then on the bottom left click puzzle map.

Depending on version you might be able to reach it from kingdom overview reached by pressing 'k'.

I know that the graphics card is okay, I got the HOMM 5 games in the gold edition case.

Any guidance you can offer me as to getting this game to work???[/QUOTE]

When I go to the town in "The Trap" and hire creatures, I cannot move them to my army. They just slide right back up to the Garrison slot. What am I doing wrong?????This is frustrating!

If you don't already have a hero in the garrison, try putting Isabel in the garrison (this is the Haven campaign in the original Heroes V, right?) and then take her back out of the garrison. The newly hired troops should be in her army, along with whatever she already had.

Thanks Catherine, you sound like a Warrior Princess like me. I will try it but I need another one from you. Artifacts I collected from "The Trap" disappear when I go to Mission 5. Is this supposed to happen?

Catherine, eagerly I tried the idea of putting Isabelle in the Garrison and once I got there, there is no way for me to put her in eventhough there is no hero there. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dianne

Ok, I got it. I have to enter the town through the town gate instead of holding the "cursor" over the town. Entering the town through the gate makes me a "visiting hero" and I can now hire creatures and put them in my army and I can now buy war machines. How I got to Mission V without knowing this I do not know. The manual nor any of the walkthroughs mention this. Thanks. However, I am still stumped as to why my artifacts disappear from Mission to Mission. Is this supposed to happen? (so many bugs in this game) I won't buy another one until I read about it first and then decide if I want to go through the bug hassell.)

Your hero stats & spells will carry over to the next scenerio in a campaign, but the artifacts & troops do not.

You may want to try playing the tutorial mission first. It's fairly simplistic, but it will address some of the basic issues such as garrisoning.

Actually in the ToE campaigns, set items will carry over from mission to mission http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

True Dane, but from the Isabel reference dvasser made and some of the basic questions I was assuming it's H5 original.

But yes dvasser, there are a few scenerios where some artifacts will carry-over as well. But in general, they won't.

Thanks Everybody, all good advice. Right, I should have done the tutorial first. I've gotten the Garrison down now. Splitting troops, hiring etc. Now I am running from Agreall in mission 5 and trying to stay alive with no luck so far...I will have to figure it out but it is frustrating!

Yesm H5 original. The Tears of Asha is clear on the map between a fern and the front of a tree stump with the exit Monolith to the right & Spell book stand to the left however, the dig icon does not light up here. It did light up in front of the Dunmoor and in front of a military tower where you can hire creatures but will not light up where the map says it is. What in the world am I doing wrong now?????

PhoenixReborn06
11-29-2008, 09:01 PM
Hmm, maybe stand on the spot and end turn. You need a whole day to dig. It also has to be empty ground.

No, it's not. Once you find out where it is by visiting the obelisks and see it's location on the puzzle map, you then go to that location on the adventure map and have your hero stand on that location. At the beginning of your next turn, select the "dig" option (or hit "g" on your keyboard). You can only dig when you have your full allotment of movement ie: the beginning of your turn. The "dig" icon will show up whenever you select "g" and then hover the icon over any clear area of ground. You can dig just about anywhere, but you'll only dig up the tear of asha at the location marked on the revealed puzzle map. Hopefully that's a bit clearer.

Not a problem. Glad it worked out for you. Have fun.

Just so you know, the game gets even better as you move forward through the expansions. By the time you get to the second expansion (tribes of the east) they've got that game working flawlessly. Of course it would've been nice if that was the case right at the outset...oh well. Anyway, good luck.

The game is hardly flawless in TotE. To be flawless then they would have fixed the multiplayer AI issues/lockups by now, which they haven't

C_h_u_c_k_l_e_s
12-02-2008, 05:15 PM
Well, I haven't encountered any MP issues since Hammers. If you're encountering something specific you should probably report it in the bug forum. Despite what many here say...they DO check that forum and they DO test bug reports.

LordoftheOgres
12-02-2008, 06:07 PM
This happens when you have 2 or more human players + X number of AI. Apparently there's an issue with updating the state between the players, because as soon as everyone leaves the game and the host remains, then the AI starts moving again.

But its nonetheless still a flaw, so not completely flawless, though I will support you in that the actual game has improved a lot through the 2 expansions and subsequent patch.

Back again.....I am still in Mission V, Fall of the King. Godric has crossed the bridge, gone thru the Garrison and out of the picture to find Nicolai. The cut scene came on (really cool) but Isabelle is just "there" I have an army in Dunmoor and still have the open Objective to secure Dunmoore against attack....where do I go from here? According to the walkthrough, once Godric went off and the cut scene came on....it was supposed to be "mission completed" What have I missed?????????

C_h_u_c_k_l_e_s
12-02-2008, 10:07 PM
Nothing. Just survive a few more days and Godric or somebody returns or something. It's been a while, I don't recall all the specifics. But the scenerio ends in a day or two after godric leaves IIRC.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find a record of it.

I'm running HMM5 for Mac, and I'm stuck on the Haven quest Fall of the King.

I've found all three oblisks, but the puzzle map looks incomplete. I think it's being rendered improperly. There are a couple of rough shapes, but they change every time I look at the map!

Anyone else have a fix, or a suggestion to get round this?

In the Windows version of HOMMV, additional obelisks would often be added to campaign scenarios in later patches. There may be more obelisks out there you need to find. Otherwise, try the walkthrough for this scenario on either Celestial Heavens or gamepressure.com; the Celestial Heavens walkthroughs in particular are often updated to keep current with changes made by the patches, and may include maps or descriptions of the most likely locations of the Tear of Asha.

Randomcat, I was wondering if you have found a solution to your problem, because I have the exact same problem as you described. The map is blue, the trees appear like black dots. The map is moving and it seems like it is showing where my knight is standing, not where the artifact is.

Is this a bug? I have looked everywhere on the internet to find a solution. I have only found a couple having the same problem and you are one of them. I have also tried to restart the computer, reload the game, find cheats to get the tears of asha, but all with no success. I can't go further in the game so please help!

And ofcourse I have found all three obelisks. The whole map is revealed but the map is not working.

And ofcourse, those walkthroughs are useless since they don't address any bugs or problems.

Can someone tell me which patch would fix this bug? I'm using a macbook pro with leopard. I have updated the game with heroesV1.5updater. Is there any newer patches for mac? I couldn't find a new patch. Only v1.6 for PC.

OK false alarm. I know that other people had this problem to so I will tell you what I did.
Instead of recruiting the bne dragons, you have to raise them, like using the shrine of the netherworld, joining, or raising them with the necromancer ability.
Or, it was because I downloaded all the patches.

Hi!
I just bought the game from Game.co.uk and when finally they did send it, after installation I found that I can't play Online Game - which is the thing I did care the most!
However I fount the little 1.0 so I understood that I have to update the game!
And here comes my problem... after downloading all of those 6 patches and trying them on, I was wondering how can a game install itself while being uninstalled - as the error says!
I have check the version as the 1st post says and tried all of the U.S compatibile versions (CD/Download etc) None of them works and the eroor keeps appearing!
HELP!

I want to add that I didn't get the original disc... the CD and Box are from MAD company and only box contains like cover of box from original version and also it is covered with MAD logos: Just like here (http://www.google.pl/imgres?q=heroes+of+might+and+magic+5+MAd&um=1&hl=pl&biw=1600&bih=797&tbm=isch&tbnid=BG27OL1NP3g8YM:&imgrefurl=http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/927207-heroes-of-might-and-magic-v/images/box-121529&docid=7jYvOm-ZBFirzM&itg=1&w=400&h=572&ei=exVaTvP1I8Kt8QOcn5GqDA&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=415&page=1&tbnh=149&tbnw=101&start=0&ndsp=33&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0&tx=74&ty=92)

For those who need help:
In the disc u get just play it again and on the down part of the menu the 4 bar says Patches -&gt; it takes you to folder with patches 1.4, 1.41 and 1.5

And here comes another question -&gt; I would love to have Patch 1.6 but don't know which patches are compatibile with those discs... does anyone know where should I look for it?

At Heroes V patch 1.6,when you return to the castle, the town music repeats itself...so instead of continuing from the point it was,the whole orchestra starts from zero again. This is king of annoying since it spoils the games fun.

How do you fix that?.

Exact same thing is happening to me - Heroes V DVD. If Freeverse stopped support to this game and there's a requirement to register online to a site that doesn't exist, why are they still selling this game. Anyone know how to get this game to run?

EDIT: My game was new in the box.
