Hi there, I've been finding Sandbox to be as much fun as the game itself, so I've had a go at making an assault map. So far the 1st stage is built, & I've tried to keep it quite compact & the spaces varied (a bit like the 'Airstrip' map, my favorite assault level):

http://img12.photobucket.com/albums/v36/mbortolino/farcrymaptest01.jpg

This is the first time I've tried my hand at level design so I've no idea if I'm doing the right things & how the map will play. I'd love to be able to test it with a group of other players, but I don't have a fast enough internet connection to host a reasonably lag-free game & no webspace to host the 11MB level data.

Any thoughts on what I could do? Do any readers have somewhere to upload it & maybe a server to have a quick game (I'm in UK btw regarding timezone, ping etc)?

Also, the map seems to be working fine in terms of constructible/destroyable scenery, pickups, flags etc, but one or two objects don't have any collision for some reason. I couldn't figure out why (& if you could take a look at the map & help that'd be great), but they aren't major objects (a few boulders & a secret tunnel!)

from the pics i'd say that map looks very nice. Very playable indeed.

It looks nice.

To test basic playability you can always run through it in the editor, make sure there are no fatal flaws, etc...

Contact the far cry fansites for hosting, there's a few of them, and they always seem willing.

I'll play if someone gets a server up

to have good playability you don't need to have to many roads so the players can easy find there way around and don't get lost , so reconising points are heplfull , like a radar tower. but for now it looks nice , just be sure there arent to many roads

found some free webspace to upload, but the hosting is disabled in their trial version so you'll need to login & grab the rar file from the inbox folder.

www.streamload.com (http://www.streamload.com)

it's limited to about 30 d/l's, so if it stops working i'll make another account.

to play, unzip & put the 'test' folder in your farcry 'levels' folder, & it should show up as an assault map.

then gimme your comments & it'd be great if someone could tell me what's wrong with the few rocks & the tunnel which have no collision.

edit: another streamload.com account-

& some proper hosting thanks to psycold-

this map looks indeed very interesting....a bit dull lightning wise, but very interrestiong
indeed! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

EDIT:
Ok first of all, theres a place where some racks have been places in the water...the placement seems kind of unnatural.
Then i think the colors a kind of dull, but (on to the positive http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ), it fits the overall theme of the map ery well.

Im just impressed...it looks very nice, and you have done a grat job...i would like to see some more vegetaion at the ruins, but besides that, i think it's very pretty http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

GJ!

yeah, those rocks in the shallow water look a bit odd, but i needed something to provide some cover as you approach on foot, because there's a minigun spot just ahead.

as for the dull light, i'm british & i like it that way http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

which ruins were you thinking of? the spot between the buildable wall & bridge or the flags? (the flag point is just a temporary space)

well i think i played as attacker, so the place when you walk out the house and just to the rights... i thought it was really kool, but just needed some more vegetation overall, considering it being....ruins http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

lol, the whole tone IS very british. Very gray. :P I liked it until I fell through the level taking the tunnel... heh heh. Overall though your conveyance of flow and functionality feels and looks great. Can't wait to see the finished product.
