View Full Version : Desync not a network issue?

Been playing a few games over last couple of days with my brother + 2 other randoms online. We're both connected over the same LAN.

Every game, at somepoint, it froze. I noticed that each time the problem seemed to be with my brothers computer (when he disconnected, the game continued - when I disconnected, it was still frozen).

Any suggestions as to why his computer keeps desyncing but mine is not when we are over the same internet connection?

Hi Amigos2222,

this sounds like a problem we've been trying to track down for quite a while (occasional desync when a player leaves the game)

Can you describe what's happening a bit more in detail - I'm not sure I quite understand who leaves first and who gets the desync message...

By desync I mean that the game progression freezes (settlers stop moving etc). - No Desync message actually appears, I just assumed thats what was happening

Basically I'm playing on Computer A, brother on Computer B vs two other players online (the online players change each game).

Every game we played would be very stuttery with what appeared to be lag spikes (freezing for a few seconds every five minutes). After between 15-45 minutes however the game would freeze and not recover.

The only way to recover from this point was for my brother to quit the game on computer B. If he does this, the game would unfreeze and become playable for myself on computer A and the others I was playing vs online. In addition, the lag spikes would be gone.

If I myself quit (computer A), the game would still remain frozen.

An additional observation I noticed was that on my brothers computer (computer B), once the game froze, some chat room statements would not appear on his computer but appear on mine.

I've been trying to find out whats different in the setup between the two computers to find out why one has connection problems and the other does not. Both are connected to the same router via lan cable and no port forwarding/DMZ settings are active on it. No firewalls or anti virus software are running also. I've also run connection tests to see if one is suffering from occasional packet loss or latency and found nothing.

Will try reinstalling the game and windows shortly (as its due a reinstall) to see if that changes anything.

Now that's something I've never heard before http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Do you have these problems as well when you play a 2-player match?
Could you try changing the default port on one of the machines?<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">- Add these lines to your “Options.ini” file (C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\My Documents\Settlers7\Options.ini)
