Bug report for Dev Team

Well, first off I would like to say that I love SH3! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif This game is awesome. I like it so much I went out and bought me another copy. Here is my system specs.
Win2000Pro service pack 4(fully updated from microsoft)
Gigabyte K7 Triton mother board
Athlon XP 2800 processor
1 gig pc2700 kingston RAM
NVidia GForce FX 5900XT(Got latest drivers)
SATA Western Digital hard drive
Installed latest SH3 patch 1.1



OK, here are some things that I found wrong or buggy about SH3.
1.Notice the picture below, it speaks for its self.

2.In the next picture I have you will see that the boat has no screw(prop)and the rudder is hard to port. OK, the ship maintained a straight course and held a steady 5 nots. I even noticed that water was being thrown from the stern of the ship as if there was a prop there that was still spining. Oh, and the reason why the prop was gone was because I hit it with a torpedo. That part I must say I'm VERY impressed with. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

3.Nobody is at the helm?

4.I also noticed that there is a band that plays at all times of the day or night to its self in port. Dont know why that is...???

5.For some reason I have not seen any rain. Lots of stormy conditions but no rain.

6.No boats or ships in the harbor. The harbor if VERY sterile of life. The harbor needs ALOT more work to make it look alive. Add some trucks and cars throughout the town. I know, I'm asking alot but I just LOVE eye candy and realism!

7.The prop on the tug boat spins in the wrong direction and I think it spins alittle bit to slow for the speed that the boat is moving.

8.I noticed that the oil slick that you sometimes get when you sink a ship is purple in colore. Shouldnt it be black?

9.The UZO is worthless for me. You cant see through it wile the u-boat is moving. And if you try to use it wile moving the game slows way down and gets sticky.

Well, thats all I got for now. I want to get back to playing SH3! Thanks again for a wonderful game. I hope these things can be fixed.

Update: I'm now having problems with the radio. I keep getting messages stating that my base has been changed to St. Nazaire. I get these massages about ever 3 seconds or so non-stop. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Update#2: Games ocassionaly crashes to desktop. I get the usaul message "this program has generated errors and will be shut down....."

I get CTDs when pressing the Surface Cruise Mode button. Happened with tired crew and damage control manned three times if that makes a difference.

Bob, the UZO problem is an issue with nvidia cards and the game's particle effects. 1.1 patch includes a work-around where you can press "CTRL+P" to turn off particle effects while using the UZO and avoid the problem.

Others have reported the no rain bug and the looping base change messages as well, so you're not alone there.

I was in the middle of a storm & no rain. I saved the game and quit out. When I reloaded the game the rain was there...Hope this is fixed with patch 1.2

as far as i see it after successfully completing several missions, there are 4 'top priority' bugs which really make realistic gameplay impossible. Those should be fixed first:

<LI> Repair Times : Repairs occur presently way too fast which makes damaged systems no longer a factor
<LI> Depth Values in Nav Map : This was solved better in SH2 with 'mouse-over' depth values. I think real-world WW2 submarine captains did know at least approximately their depth below keel by knowing their lat/long position. Pinging for depth below keel is not an option for many situations.
<LI> Max. Diving Depth : I have undergone several diving tests, but never reached a depth even near the max. depth mentioned for the subs in the manual. I don't think this is realistic.
<LI> Multiplayer : Multiplayer mode should work, it should be no problem to connect.

There are a couple of other bugs which are also quite important to be fixed, but I think the four mentioned above are most critical.

Regardless of the bugs, I think SH3 is a revolutionary step forward in subsimming and simply the most realistic, most interesting and most exciting submarine simulation ever!
Hope the dev team will keep up the outstanding work and provide fixes at least for the most important bugs soon!

Bugs I have encountered:

- Unable to use deck gun (SS or SA) during seemingly ideal weather. Light winds, light fog, no precipitation should not prevent me from using my mounted guns.

- Crash to desktop when managing crew. This has happened twice after using buttons to auto-allocate crew for "surface cruise".

- Graphical glitches when launching from installed shortcut due to lack of "start in" setting. This is resolved by launching direclty from installed program, or from CD autorun.
