Complete NEWBIE Questions

Hi All,

I am completely new to all this MODDING stuff, and would like some questions answered, if poss.

1. If I create a map, does it need to be stored on each players local machine if they want to play it MP?

2. What are the capabilities of the sandbox editor (Can you create full playable levels, or new enemies etc..)??

3. Do you need any additional software to run the maps and where do you need to put them withinthe game directory?

I probably have more but these will do for now.

A:

1) You never seem to have played online custom multiplayer maps? Every bit of non-default content needs to be downloaded and installed on every machine, that wants to play the content. So yes, your custom map needs to be installed on every other machine out there that actually wants to play your map.

2) You can create your own terrain layout, place default objects any way you like, place vegetation. You can't presently add new models (new vehicles, weapons, buildings etc.). For this the SDK (Source Development Kit) is required. The SDK still needs to be released though.

3) Presently the Editor.exe (Sandbox) is all you need to get started with mapping.

Be sure to download and read the latest official manual (see the sticky threads in this forum), and also take a look at the Swoop/AEon FAQ (see my sig, v2.19).

How do I get to play these maps (i.e. Once I've downloaded them where do they go, and how to access them through the game?), and where can I get them?

I'd suggest you read the Swoop/AEon FAQ (see my signature) on this. It anwers something like 200 Q/As, lists resource links etc.

You download the levels from various sites on the net (a search on this forum should get you a few), i.e. simply check some of the map threads.

Download map, unpack them into your Far Cry\Levels\<level name> folder then run the levels from your ingame console via "\map <level name>" (without the quotes).

Welcome to the fourms

At the top of the forum, there is a button "go" click that and select "my space".

From there click "profile".

This takes you to an area where you can edit your profile including picture (avatar) and signature...

Please note that you cannot "upload" a picture despite the option being shown, but you can link to a pictures URL. Last note, make sure it is an online hosted picture egimageshack or putfile etc, NOT a link on your PC
