SO I just recently bought FC2 on steam and every time I try to run the game or any of the tools that come with the game my computer Locks up completely and I have to use the power button to restart. Is there any fix or anything I can do to fix this? I have tried to run the game in compatibility mode and have reinstalled it a few times and it still doesn't work.

Windows 7 x64
AMD Phenom II x4 955 3.60
4Gb of ram
ATI Radeon HD 4800 2Gb

Which ATI catalyst driver version are you using for your VIDEO CARD ? Is it Updated ?

Have you fully updated the Game under the STEAM Client, and verified the Game Cache Files/GCF ? Does the Game hang after you Play the Single player part of FC2, or even at the Main Menu ? Disable the Windows 7 Aero desktop theme, if it creates any problem.

Do you have ASUS GamerOSD and SmartDoctor tools installed on your computer ? Try to remove these tools, because they have known to cause a Lag/conflict with FC2. Do you run any other program in the Background when you play FC2 ?

As a side note, after you Launch the game, have you checked the *CPU Core affinity* for your quad-core processor, for the process FarCry2.exe via the Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC )?

FC2 should run fine on a Quad-core processor, but just check how many CPU cores does the Game utilize, under the boxes labeled as CPU 0, CPU 1 etc. ?

Using Catalyst Ver. 11.5 (most recent update)

Game is fully Updated and all I see is the FC2 Logo and the whole computer freezes (mouse will not move keyboard does not work ect.)

Don't have either of those programs installed

Cant check the core affinity because the computer is hard locked.

Maybe you would be better off checking this out and chalk up Steam as a loss. Two bits you'll be up and running in no time. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I agree with LostGunner. What's another $10.00? Buy it so you can enjoy the fun of FC2 hassle free!

If you accidently hit the tilder key ¬ - this can cause the game to lock up, only a reboot frees the pc.
