After a long and extremely successful patrol in the Formosa Strait the men of the USS Finback were looking forward to getting back home, sadly we still had a lot of ocean to cross.

Now, it should be known that Captain Feud has a very difficult time restraining himself from engaging enemy aircraft during the return trip, and this trip was no different. Having already bagged two Zeros two more appeared on an intercept course, and the gunners were ordered to their station.

The first plane began its approach when the gun fell silent, it seems the crew failed to reload it after the last engagement. The aircraft made a less than effective strafing run, and its wingman caught the fury of the newly reloaded gun and quickly met a watery end.

The first Zero circled about and came back at us, coming in at 2 o'clock high. The gun opened up, fire, filled the sky, and the plane began to plummet...

Incoming!

Men scrambled for safety as the burning chariot of death hurtled straight for the deck. Fortunately gravity was our friend today and the craft feel just shy.

I can't help but think that in real like shrapnel from the mid air explosion and burning fuel would have created quite a mess for us. Feeling very relieved the crew returned to their posts, casting angry glares at the maniacally laughing Captain, and the tour was completed without further incident.

As a bonus, here's a few screens from earlier in the patrol:

Good story. I've been hit my many a mad JP pilot, thankfully they don't damage the sub.

Great story and SS....
