Holy cow, there are still people here http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

But I actually did a bit of Co-op last week.

I try to play it everyday. Lately it's been tough with things going on. Love the game but it looks as though things have slowed down quite a bit over the last couple of months. I think partly it is because of the holidays and part because of what happened at TWL. There are alot of new games that have come out and are comming out. We'll see what happens. It has happened before and alot of players just end up comming back. Several players just got tired of the cheating going on and now that is under control more so than ever before. When I play, I have a blast. I don't need to worry about who's cheating and I can just play to play. Had a blast with the Santa hat mod and looking forword every day to seeing new maps and other little mods comming out.

I used to play like a madwoman, daily, but i've become quite busy with doing two Raven Shield leagues on Teamwarfare and running Team Shadownet for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Not to mention also moderating the forum, especially GR2.

Much of my online time has become administrative, sad to say, but i'm not complaining. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Oh, and most of my clan has moved on to other games.

I play co-op with my friend, he has black arrow on his PS2...

does that count?

recently ive played CODUO, pacific fighters, MOHPA, Far Cry, HL, HL2, Doom 3, Red mercury, Delta Ops, FBI Hostage Rescue, and MGS3 and this game still gets played everyday. Of course I mostly enjoy tactical games, if you get bored with the game switch over to pistols only, and learn to make maps for yourself, thats what i did.

Demon_Mustang
12-29-2004, 12:52 AM
I like tactical games too, unfortunately Raven-Shield is like a wannabe tactical game made by some not-as-good-as-redstorm development team that wants to turn the franchise into an arcadey "cool" tactical-like game.

Hm, I confused myself...

I hardly ever play, but when I do- I rock! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I have been playing more frequently recently- perhaps an hour or so every day on Terrorist Hunt or another co-op mode on Athena Sword.

My uncle plays far more frequently- and I envy his skill with the M14.

Since this new patch..Yes! Its really made a difference. Haven't played since AS came out...the clan moved onto other games...but about 10 of us are playing again! Its great!

Furious_Gopher

I agree, Highball

I knew why I stopped playing, but after picking it up again and trying it out, it's like I got this sudden thrill of intensity. I just love it and I hope to play it much more often http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

What exactly did the new patch add? I haven't even tried it for a long time, so I have no clue.

Furious_Gopher
12-29-2004, 09:29 PM
Frankly I have no idea, but from my playing time, I have noticed that I never have anymore shadow problems, ladder bugs, cheaters and a few other things

Although PB seems to hate me and sometimes doesn't let me join servers for no apparent reason at all

Ok, I checked, I did uninstall Raven-Shield, lol, oh well, I'll reinstall it and download the patch and see if it is any better. I doubt it, as the things that bothered me had to do with the core elements of the game.

Furious_Gopher
12-30-2004, 12:43 AM
Bah, it's not like it was a big waste or anything, Demon

After all, you did get it for free http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

And NO! I do NOT cheat! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Demon_Mustang

Oh no, I'm not complaining that I have the game, it's never BAD to have something, just that ubi messed up the game, it took several steps backward in my opinion compared to Rogue Spear, everything except graphics, but in the vehicles, the graphics actually did step backward.

Anyway, I still keep it just in case you guys set up a night where us forum-goers can play and shoot at each other, I just uninstalled it to free up space before, but now I have a 200gb harddrive in addition to the 60gb harddrive I already have, so I guess it's safe to reinstall it, lol.

Well, if you include the 80gb I have in my networked "server" computer next to me, then I have a total of 340gb worth of storage, so I'm ok. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

LOL, now we know what Demon is talking about, or not talking about. RvS has no vehicles, at least none you can drive. What game were your thinking about?? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

The game actually runs smoother and with the new PB CVAR checks, we haven't found a cheater in a long time on our servers.

I used to play at least 1 mission a night.
2 weeks ago my P4 3 Ghz decided to stop
booting up. I'm still trying to fix it
and am close to scraping it. Trying to play
on the P4 1.3 Ghz system with half the memory
card of the other one sucks. I have to turn
the graphics all down to low and still get
about 15 fps avg compared to my old rock solid
60.

Lately I've been getting my fix off of
System Shock 2, but it's not the same..

Not that I was ever a big player, and I've never even tried the on-line play, but I was only interested in RvS for the first month after my purchase.

Around the same time, I also got GR. I found GR to be more "addictive". But, I still have RvS installed on my machine...

i know gopher....im playing all the time again! My biggest problem was (when i quit playing) the choppy play...bad hit detection..and the hesitation in the firing animation...that all seems to be a thing of the past now.

btw,(I mentioned this in a different thread)...but out of desperation to have a good game to play, I tried CS2 (never played CS)...what a JOKE. RvS looks n plays soooo much better.
Cant tell ya how glad I am to have this running well for me again.

I remember I used to be able to clear out the opposing team all by myself, but when I play it nowadays, I just get freaked out when I'm the last man standing on my team http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

My favorite map used to be Streets, but now it seems like everyone dies so fast, and I'm still trying to snipe out of the top windows http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

good point. The 'freak factor' is a big part of RvSs appeal for me.
I was playing the other night...last man alive...my heart was POUNDING! What a rush!

No other game ive ever played has even come close to that.

Go back to Rogue Spear, none of the cars were drivable by you, but they were part of the environment, and they can be driven by the enemy if they are programmed to. They had glass windows, an interior, round wheels that spin and steer, and you can shoot through the glass to hit the driver if you want or shoot out the tires or toss in a grenade and disable it completely.

In Raven-Shield, the few levels where cars were part of the environment, such as import-export I think, and the bank, they are just kind of car shaped blocks that are not even in the right proportion, it's so **** silly looking it's pathetic.

Anyway, that isn't an important part of the game, just one of the things I listed where it actually took a step backward from a game made years ago. Also, somehow the developers of Raven-Shield couldn't figure out how to let you climb objects while the Rogue Spear team was, how sad...

I gave up playing RVS online, because it seemed if you were the last one alive (and not by jiding either) everyone started getting mad at you. And if you were the last guy 3 or 4 times, they would boot you from the server.

Yeah I played with a few idiots like that. When I was the last one alive they expect me to commit suicide, because they are to hyper to wait a minute or two, unless they are the last person.

We are a NO ZULU server. In fact, we encourage players to play it out. We usually have everyone on TS and talk them through finding the last T hinding somewhere. Of corse, if there are still 30 t's left and one player, it is only common coutesy to bow out and let the team try again.

Oh, you mean in Rogue Spear? I don't doubt it, those people worked hard when they developed Rogue Spear, not like these half-*** morons at ubi.

They also got rid of the sitting position, sure the prone position is ok for sniping, but sometimes you don't see a lot while in prone, and the sitting is about as high as kneeling but about 3 times more stable.

I'd argue the sitting position is about as stable as prone, this is from personal experience back when I competed in shooting, usually a 3 position competition I did participate in a few 4 position comps where sitting was one of the positions and I found it to be pretty **** stable.

When I saw that they had the sitting position in Rogue Spear I was pretty excited to see that someone int he gaming industry is knowledgable enough to actually know about this position. For those of you unfamiliar, sitting is not simply sitting down and firing, it's quite different, you use your feet to brace up your knees which in turn you use as support for your elbows, like I said before, this results in a VERY stable firing position, just as stable as prone but with higher visibility than prone.

You know what Trogdor, I've made up my mind, I'm reinstalling Rogue Spear, hope there are still people playing it online...

Man, I miss playing that map with a lot of people. However, the atmoshere is still greatly diminished because for some reason I can't get fog. Heck there's not even a map with rain in RVS, does the engine even support it? I would think it must because they have snow, but I still wonder why they chose not to use it.

Maybe I'll try the RVS version and see how I like it.

Jumbo jet was a fun map too, but I never liked being resricted by the articficially placed walls. It could've been cooler if it was somewhere that resembled a real airport.

There are several maps with rain. There is thunder too.
One of the maps from The Platoon's contest, Ruined City (Rogue Spear) by Fubarnz & Vettsmurf is one of them I believe.

Hm, for some odd reason I can't get the patch to work, but I do remember something with one of the Rainbow Six games where you actually have to run the game as in letting a level load up before you can apply a patch, maybe I'll give that a try...

RMC.SBS

I had the same trouble with the patch(Rogue spear)don't think it works for XP.
What i did to run Rogue,is go to the Rogue spear short cut.
Clicked "properties"--"compatibility" tab
and Ran the game using "windows 2000" compatibility mode.

Trogdor93
01-10-2005, 10:20 AM
I have the new XP compatible version 2.06. It came with counter-terrorism classics, which I bought to get the updated version of the original R6 so that I could play in win2k. I didn't really need the new version of Rogue Spear as I has the previous one as well and it doesn't do anything to urban operations anyway. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have made a patch to get the new version, you have to buy it again. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif But maybe you could run Urban Operations or buy the new version? I still haven't found out if 2.06 is compatible with 2.05 for multiplayer, supposedly the only that is changed is Win XP compatibility.

Demon_Mustang
01-10-2005, 11:48 AM
Hm, maybe I'll have to do that compatability mode thing to update it...
unless...

Hey trog, you think you can email me the patch? If it's included in the pack you bought, it should actually be in the CD, if not, I think the CD actually copies the patch into the Rogue Spear folder before trying to patch, so there should be a file in the Rogue Spear folder called Rogue206.exe or something like that, if you think you can email it to me, let me know, I'll give you my email address.

BTW, I have urban operations, the patch it does is the same, it will not work.

I agree, it's ok, but the texture maps are kind of boring (and some don't match the architecture they're applied to) and some of the more interesting geometry has been removed.
