I know there have been a lot of posts on this...but i'm yet another person getting not-so-hot FPS with a decent system and was wondering if I could have some people comment on my system:

2500+ AMD processor overclocked to 3200
1 GB 3200 RAM (dual channel)
9600 Radeon Pro
Audigy Gamer sound card

I get around 30-60 FPS in multiplayer and i don't complain, it runs OK...but in certain areas and in single player i was hoping for better performance

One thing I'd like to know is if going from 9600 pro to 9800 XT or something would really be worth the cost (I think the answer is no right now? How much better frames you think i'd get?)

did u do the tweaks?

If your FPS are capped at 60.

As default VSYNCH is enabled in RvS. This has the effect that your FPS will follow the "Refresh Rate" of your monitor. Most ppl will tell you to turn off VSYNCH, which isn't the solution, the solution is to make RvS run the game at a higher refresh rate, or instruct the Windows to set the refresh rate at a particular refresh rate.

I suggest doing the following.
1) In your User.ini file, find the setting ShowRefreshRates in section [Engine.R6GameOptions]. Set ShowRefreshRates=TRUE

2) In your RavenShield.ini file, find the setting UseVSync in section [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]. Make sure UseVSync=TRUE

Now you are able to select your Resolution AND the Refresh Rate you want the game to run at. If you made the changes make sure to reselect the in the Options --> Graphics.

Note:
1) Don't select a resolution or refresh rate that your monitor can't run at, you shouldn't be able to anyway but just in case.

2) Make sure that your VSYNCH is set to "ALWAYS ON" or "APPLICATION PREFERENCE" in Windows Display Settings under Advanced.

3) If your FPS is capped at 50 and not 60, turn of your TV-out in Windows Display Settings.

3) In Windows Display Settings under Advanced you are able to set your monitor's refresh rate override to follow the desktop or at a paricular refresh or disabled.
If you select "Same as Desktop" and don't use the settings above, make sure that your Desktop Resolution runs at the rate you want the game to. If you use DCC and Refresh Rate Override = disabled then my game still runs at 60Hz regardless. My settings are DCC enabled and Refresh Rate Override = 85Hz. This is for ATI.

Find my post in this forum... i use the same card as u http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gifand having trouble with fps. right now 60-85 and only follow refresh rate. i think urs is capped at 60.

If you look at the post above which is from here: link (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=327106611&m=702100142&r=509101542#509101542) you'll notice that your netspeed setting could also be a factor in why you fps will not go higher than a certain level. (Explained in post)

Thanks guys, I can't test your solutions yet because I'm home on spring break and my PC is at school but I will try your tweaks as soon as I get back. I think the refresh rate explanation makes sense because I know my monitor is set to 60Hz

"Eddie", if your monitor is at 60hz you must be running a flat panel, right? As you'd go blind with a CRT. Yeah, make sure Vsync is disabled in both RvS and your ATI D3D Control Panel tab.
Of course, some people running XP still get the frame rate cap even still and have to run some utility called RefreshLock (or whatever). I've never had to do that with XP.

Lower your resolution to 640x480 keeping your refresh rate at 60. If your frame rate is pegged at 60, you can be dam sure you're capped by your refresh rate.

My whole setup is almost identical to yours except I'm running a 9500Pro. The 9500Pro is somewhat stronger than the 9600Pro due its architecture even though it's clocked lower. But I average 60-100fps in single-player at 12x10 res. with all eye candy off. I'm thinking you should get 50-75fps in SP with that card. Playing MP always results in lower frame rates than SP.

I also use an Audigy 2 instead. Disable your sound in some RvS ini file and then check your frames. It's good to know how big an impact your sound card is having on your performance.

I assume you overclocked with a 200FSB? I wish I had more to offer. Your 9600Pro should give you better frames in your setup than that.

Hey guys disabling vsync helped ENORMOUSLY. I just got back from spring break with Athena Sword and before I loaded the game up I disabled vsync on my video card. The first mission ran at frame rates between 90-100 FPS.

Chiles, I also know how much the sound card can help...on my old 1Ghz pentium 3 PC raven shield ran absolutely horribly (completely unplaybale)...thats when I bought the audigy and it made the game a lot more playable.

Audigy 1 seems to be working fine for now, but I plan on upgrading that too eventually.

Thanks guys!

As gunny was trying to tell you, you can't really tell anything over what your monitor can display, like mine @75hz. Yah I can turn off vsync and pull over 560 fps at the menu. but my monitor can only run 1024 x 768 at 75 hz, so as transient is trying to tell you, you could pop a monitor. If you can hit between 40 - 60 fps with full detail you're golden really.
I have seen a couple of peeps say that in the rvs ini to set it 25 hz higher than your monitor can display as a buffer so to speak. But keep your vsync on or you get massive tearing or it looks like doo doo. I still take frame hits down to 40 so it's beyond me, but I'm not gonna pop new monitor to find out.

my specs: p4 2.8c, asus p4c800e deluxe, dual 36 gig sata raptors @ 10000 rpm on raid 0, 9800 pro 128 mb, 1 gig muskin pc 3500 level 1 ram, Antec 1080 amg case.
I boot to win xp desktop in 35 seconds and idle at 25c, rvs brings me to 30c

So tell me why I drop to 45 fps in game, I feel your pain dude.
