Im in a pickle....
Im doing Jack Ilfrey's P51 'Happy jacks go buggy'
both early and later versions for the next part of my 20th FG series, and I cant figure out some of the little symbols on the nose.

Ive got 8 kill markings under the canopy, 5 bomb symbols, and is it 4 trains engines behind the exhaust?
Its the 51 things with what look like slashes through them I cant find, I understand that umbrellas were used to denote escort/cover missions, but im not sure what these ones are.

any help would be great http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've seen something like that in one of my books somewhere. I'll have a look and see what I can find for you. I think they may be for strafing kills.

They are escort missions flown symbols. The marks are top hats set at an angle with canes running through them.

The symbols behind the exhaust are trains for locomotives destroyed.

Bombs are self explainatory.

The b/w photo is published in the book 'Happy Jack's Go Buggy' by Ilfrey, with a better resolution than the web picture.
There are symbols above the first three exhaust stacks which can perhaps be four locomotives - or eight umbrellas?
The four white symbols behind the stacks look more like white squares than locomotives, but such existed(very small "wheels" on the locos).
Looks like four "broom sticks" above stacks No4 and 5. All above in white.

A colour photo of the rear part of the fuselage is also published.

Hi Goran how are ya http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A shot of the rear would be good, Ive got two different profiles which show different camo'd areas
so photo evidence would be great.

I also need to email you with a Finland G6late late pack I think is finished, just need to make sure the upper wing markings are right so I will do that now.

The broom symbol signified a fighter "sweep". Clever, huh? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
